I have bought 2 of these icemakers in the last 14 years. I have 4 friends that have under counter icemakers also that love them. The whole family loves the fresh, clear ice readily-available, especially for parties in hot South Texas. I run the cleaning cycle once a month that is easy to do. But you still need to buy the annual maintenance plan that runs around $125 each year. The techs are great, and give you tips on how to prolong the life of this machine, and I make sure to follow their guidelines. Yes - it is an expensive convenience. If you are trying to save money, this is not for you if you are happy running to the store to buy ice for entertaining or for a large family. It is the number one thing my kids missed when they went off to college - the ice machine at home!
...

Had a like unit for over 10 years with no problems until it had a freon leak. Called Sears and they are replacing the unit. No problem with getting new unit. I going to try it one more time....

This is the second Sears freestanding ice maker we have bought. One is outside in my studio and this new one is in the kitchen. We did have another brand in the kitchen, but it quit and it was inferior to the Sears model. It is imperative to purchase the extended warranty, especially if you don't live near a metropolitan area and if you don't want repair bills....

My same model icemaker of 7 years had a part go out in which Sears did not make anymore. My neighbor, who had bought the same icemaker 6 months after me had the exact same thing happen within month. Pretty cheesy that Sears quit making the part after they gave this model a new design. The new design causes the icemaker to dump all of the water in the resevoir after making one sheet of ice, therefore wasting the equivilent of about 5 more sheets of ice. My neighbor also replaced hers with the same model like I did and within a month of so of buying them, both icemakers displayed that they needed cleaning. The icemaker cleaner that you buy on line from Sears is $35.00 (on ******, it is $12.95). The cleaning button never came on the entire time either of us owned our former one. I would think I had gotten a lemon, but ironically, my neighbor is experiencing the same problems within the exact time frame that I am. The new and improved design has ruined a good product. I wish...
...

We purchased this icemaker for the nurse's office in our small elementary school. The machine has a pump which requires a outgoing drainage line, which wasn't clear to us from the product description. Our previous icemaker drained into a pan on the bottom. This made it a bit more difficult to install but it's nice not having to worry about the draining. The nurse and the students are very happy to have very small, square cubes which are better for ice packs that big, refrigerator cubes. And the school staff loves it, too. The cube size was a surprise as I couldn't find a picture of the cubes or description on the specifications. The machine makes lots of ice and keeps it frozen. In fact, ice sometimes falls out when we open the door although the level may be adjustable. I haven't looked into that yet. I wish it had a place for the scoop so we wouldn't have to dig for it first thing every morning.

I love the Built In Icemaker. It replaced a trash compactor that had not worked for a long time. The ice cubes are much smaller than the ice cubes in my refrigerator icemaker. They are a perfect size and very convenient.

The biggest problem that we had was we ordered the Icemaker online. There was a special that installation was included if you paid for the shipping. We paid extra for shipping to have it installed on a Saturday. But the icemaker was delivered on a Saturday, but the delivery person said that we would have to set up the installation with Sears. They were very cooperative, and refunded the extra money that was paid for the Saturday installation. When the installation person came to the house, he said that he was not authorized to do any plumbing and therefore, he only set the icemaker into the hole where it was to be used. We then had to pay a plumber to come to the house and plumb the pipe from the sink to the icemaker. It would have been helpful if there had......

This was a replacement for a Maytag ice maker I previously owned. If your refrigerator doesn't make ice quickly enough for you, or if you simply prefer smaller cubes of ice, this ice maker will certainly fit the bill. Built-in filters give the ice a very clean, neutral taste. The only cons against the product is the higher cost than I would've liked to have paid, and the slightly louder motor when it's running, compared to my previous Maytag ice maker.
...

I guess it isn't that hard to find a reasonably priced ice making machine. I will not pay a thousand dollars for something I use a couple of times a week. This works out perfectly for me. works great. a little lacking on height but a great size that can fit anywhere. it make more ice than I would need for a small party. It keeps the ice nice and cold too. I like it plenty.
...

I must have had a dozen Whirlpool/GE Monogram/KitchenAid/Kenmore icemakers through the years. They all manufactured by Whirlpool. There are only 4 (to my knowledge) icemakers out there: Whirlpool, Scotsman (also sold as Subzero until recently when they went to Manitiwoc), Marvel (also sold as Viking and Electrolux) and Manitowac (now sold also as SubZero) All of these icemakers have to make ice 24/7 never stop, use water and work their fannies off. THEY ALL BREAK.I routinely through the years, have to call for a new compressor, a new condenser, a new pump.
Bottom line, the Whirlpool whether you call it a Kenmore or a KitchenAid, makes the best, clearest, small (chewable) ice on the market. I hate the big round chunks the Scotsman and Marvel make (haven't seen the Manitowac (SubZero) ice but the person in the store showed me a plastic sample and I don't think I could chew it without breaking a tooth every now and then.
This machine, especially in the SS is a STEAL, it has a pump built in......

We have owned 2 of these Ice makers. Our experience has not been good. You can expect this machine to last until the warranty runs out. Both of ours lasted 1 1/2 years at the most. I am now on this site looking for a different brand name. The Danby Co. doesn't stand behind their products ANYTHING past the warranty....even 1 day! We had 1 of ours fixed and it lasted another 3 months and it was down again. When we took it in for repairs, when it 1st broke down, the repair company had our machine for almost a YEAR, before it was returned to us. During that time, we had to buy another 1, in order to have any ice. We DID NOT buy it from Sears or K-Mart. Also, the repairs cost just less than a NEW 1 !! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. Please don't use these comments against Sears or K-Mart, as they have NOTHING to do with the makings of this product.
...
