We replaced our previous microwave with this one because it was on sale. This one sticks out further then our previous one because of the vent. IOt's difficult to reach the cabinet above the mocrowave without a stool now. The microwave itself is nice. The defrost program seems to cook more then defrost but otherwise we like it
...

Bought this microwave to match the rest of the Kenmore appliances that we purchased for our new home in the summer of 2008. The microwave lasted for two years, one day it just went completely out, it would not even power up. I had to either get it fixed for $200.00 or purchase a new one, I like all my appliances to be the same brand so now I was stuck getting this fixed or buying a new one. This microwave is not worth the price, the fan is loud and it will not last if you use it regularly....

Since using this new Kenmore Elite I'm very disappointed in the panel. My last oven had a much more friendly program for quick heating items with an 30 second add on. Also, it had l,2,3, up to six instand buttons for quick cooking. Just hit the number and it would start the machine and cook for that length of time. This machine isn't user friendly at all. I haven't had an issue with the tray like most others have written about, guess I'm fortunate on that issue. I wouldn't purchase this again. As for the cooking, heat things mostly, good for popcorn but again its special button doesn't pop the entire bag, but most ovens don't. Didn't think the panel would be such a big issue and purchased without seeing it in the store, they didn't have it in stock, would not do that again.
...

This is the fourth over the range microwave that I've installed in the same spot. No, I don't have bad luck with microwaves, I've just lived in the same house for a long time. My prior experience made installing this one a snap. These over the range microwaves all appear to have a life expectancy of 5-6 years, in my house at least. I'm OK with that. I just make sure to get the longest in home repair contract I can get. I know it's going to break. It's not a question of if but when. If they last longer than the contract, I'm happy. The two previous to this were both Sharp Carousel Models with the convection feature. I was going to get another but I saw this one on the Sears website. I didn't use the convection much so I decided to save some money and try this one with the grill feature instead. With the end of year savings at Sears I got this machine for $299. That amounted to about a $200 difference over a Sharp convection type microwave. So far, so good. The microwave has done...
...

WE WILL NEVER BUY FROM SEARS AGAIN!!! We remodeled our kitchen in August 2008 and bought all new stainless steel Kenmore appliances. We had never had an issue wih Sears in the past and have always bought Kenmore and been fully satisfied, but this time not so much. 14 months later, our $400 microwave decided to stop heating and the carousel stopped rotating. We did not purchase an extended warranty for the microwave, but did not feel it was absurd to think that we would get a few years out of ours....we were wrong again! When we called Sears to inform them of the defect we experienced the worst customer service ever and were told that they could not help us out, other than us paying another $150 to have a repair tech come out to our home. The microwave we purchased was not worth the money we originally paid, but for some reason Sears thought it was now worth $550...sad, really. With that said, Sears lost a customer for life and the defective microwave went in the trash!
...

Bought this microwave, dishwasher and oven (all Kenmore) in April 2008. Bought the fridge earlier. At the time of my purchase the majority of reviews were favorable. The fridge, dishwasher and microwave are supposed to be quiet. The fridge and dishwasher meet their peformance expectations. When the mircrowave was installed, the technician said the noise was due to my tiled backsplash. It turns out the fan motor is to blame. It stopped working this past week. There is another review expressing the same problem. Please, if you have the same issue, report it. The only way to get a recall or credit is if there is consistent customer reporting. Also, request that your technician report the failure & problem in writing.

My wife and I search long and hard for a microwave that we thought we be useful and would hold up. We finally decided on this model from Kenmore. However, on the day it was to be installed we found out that the screw holes in the top of the microwave lined up perfectly with the cam bolts holding our cabinets together. The installation guy told us that all Kenmore microwaves had the screw holes in the same place. If we had even thought that installation would be a problem, we would have asked about it. Now we have to start our search all over again. I think Kenmore should re-think their design a little a move the mounting screw holes more toward the middle or further back.
...

I recently remodeled my kitchen and purchased this appliance as my last appliance for the project, we used all Sears Kenmore appliances for the project. This microwave is by far the best microwave oven we have ever used, it really takes the guesswork out of cooking. We originally picked this microwave because of its streamline sleek appearance along with the combination grille to remove the clutter of having other appliances on the countertop. We are extremely happy that we did....

This units door is made of plastic, and sits over the stove.
The plastic door will crack, and become damaged, because it sits over the stove.
Becasue the door is plastic, it can not handle the heat coming from the stove.
The door on this unit sits more than 22 inches from our stove and with in the first year our door has become damaged.

I would not recommend this unit to anyone....

We purchased this microrange about two years ago. In this time, the touchscreen display has "wigged" out twice, the first time it reset itself after I unlpugged the unit and plugged it back in. The exhuast fan is WEAK (read the cfm compared to other units). While the unit did cook well, I still think my last microwave, a Panasonic at about half the price, cooked just as well if not better. Today I am shopping for another unit as this one just broke (the microwave part will not heat). I would definitely NOT recmommnend this unit, as I am sure there are better choices....

I love the look of this microwave and after two years of use, it's going strong BUT, and this is a HUGE BUT, the venting fan is so weak as to be completely useless. The amount of smoke/steam being drawn into the exhaust vents is practically imperceptible.

So, I end up frying onions, sauteeing chicken and making eggs on a hotplate outside....

So far so good with this hood combo. I love the grill feature, still learning how everything works. Made pork chops with ease, and for the first time - they came out browned and juicy. I usually destroy them! Used the combo feature to make crispy chicken nuggets, and even made the best garlic bread with the grill feature. This product saves a lot of time and energy in the kitchen, without having to sacrifice quality. With a toddler and a baby on the way, saving time and energy is key. My only complaint is the key pad is quite difficult to see, especially at night when lightig is low. It's a grey on grey key pad and the touch pads are hard to see at times. Another reviewer mentioned this, and I concur. Other than that, I think the extra $$ for the grill feature was worth it. My advice- keep the manual handy for a few months while you get used to all the options and extras....

DO NOT BUY THIS! I had an over-the-stove Sharp Carousel for 20 years - not one service call or problem, even with moving it to two other homes, until it stopped working. (I didn't know until we bought the new one that it was only a fuse that needed replacing and it worked again and someone else is using it.) Even though I wanted another Sharp I bought the Kenmore 81629 in October 2007 because of all the features and Sears where we shopped did not have Sharp. HOWEVER, I should have heeded my inner prompting to keep looking for something else. Soon after we installed the unit we had to have it serviced for a rattling noise (during the initial 30 days). We found the keypad hard to read without direct light. This microwave is very noisy. The special keys don't heat correctly. And now it doesn't heat at all. You can try using all the features - it turns on, lights come on, fan comes on, carousel turns, but it doesn't cook. We didn't buy service contract because the unit should have lasted at......
