We have had our 790-7942 range for several years, and are still pleased by our choice. The 5 burner (2 regular, 1 simmer, 1 large, and 1 larger) configuration is useful for pans of all sizes. Too many 5 burner configurations have oval bridge burners for the griddle. In normal cooking it is useless. This one has a normal center burner, and a griddle that fits over the left burners, and works nicely. As noted by others, it is shallow, and not suitable for greasy foods like bacon, but is good for pancakes. We have not tried to use the flipside, which is convoluted for grilling? The grate is well designed to provide stable support for even smaller pans, almost anywhere. Other brand grates do not allow you to move a small pan away from the flame. As also noted the black surface is challenging to keep looking nice. The large oven has 3 racks for baking versatility. One even has a lift out section to accomodate tall items. The outer edges above the flame slots are hotter, and can burn......

Purchased this stove 4 years ago for my newly remodeled kitchen - love the look but had nothing but problems. Replaced the main control panel at least 4 times, the probe 2 times and no resolve from the whirlpool corporation on these issues. Spent more on repairs than I did on the stove. Stove would go to broil temperature without notice when baking and last weekend the oven would not turn off so I had to turn the breaker off. That was the last straw - purchased a new stove last week. Take my advice - DO NOT BUY THIS STOVE!

It is a $450-$500 range at most. Do not pay more, and I would argue that you should wait until you can get it for significantly less. The size and clean-ability are OK for the price, but one burner has already sealed up and a tech said he sees it quite often (not something we could just clean out from regular use, he had to replace)....

I bought the kenmore double oven Model# 790.98043900, which is not this particular oven they reviewed, mine is pretty close to it as i can not find it went i browse the ovens. I bought my oven April 2011, it was the best investment i have been in ovens, i love the fact i can cook a whole meal at once, when temps and cooking times are different for different foods. I have the confection cooking option as well which does come in handy at times. The appearance of the oven is very nice as it is black with stainless steel doors, handles and the on back with the knobs and push buttons, which goes great with all my stainless steel appliances. It has a 5 burner glass ceramic smooth top, the middle burner is for warming. It does clean up very nice, i would difinitely recomnend this to all my family and friends....

I purchased this stove in 2005 and have not had any problems whatsoever with it. It is perfect for cooking during the holidays with the 5 gas burners and 2 ovens. I've cooked my turkey in the convection oven and my mac and cheese in the smaller oven. It is easy to keep clean. I wipe up after I cook and I polish the cook top to keep it looking showroom new. It is a beautiful appliance and I've gotten many compliments on it!

The oven and the cooktop work great. The range looked beautiful till a few months ago when streaks of rust started appearing on the stainless steel control panel. So 4 years after purchase, the cooking range panel looks 10 years old, while the remaining range looks brand new. Neither Sears nor Kenmore has agreed to do anything about it....

This is a well built stove. With 5 burners, it is easy to get just the correct heat level for whatever one is cooking. controls are out on front for the burners, making it a safe product. there was some problem with the thing tipping over, but I think they fixed it with some sort of "bracket"....

Purchased in March 2011, it has a perfect profile, smart features, and easy to clean. The double oven is great! The top oven is large enough for most cooking, heats fast, and perfect for broiling. The larger bottom oven has ample space for cooking anything. The burners have great features: Turbo Boil, a warming burner, and a large burner which allows you to adjust the element size. It's really sharp looking, but better still ... so easy to clean ! The touch buttons are excellent since they are protected from ever being damaged (unlike my last range). It's got plenty of oven space and burner space in a 30" standard size. I still haven't used all the available features. I would highly recommend this Kenmore Elite to anyone. Simple enough for the amateur cook, but added features for the more advanced home chef. I couldn't have designed it better and wouldn't change a thing!

I do like this stove. The overall size is great in our kitchen. I will have to agree with the other writers that the side oven is too narrow to use frequently. The other thing I would like to see change is that the door can not be locked. My son likes to try to open the door and I have to really be careful when I am using the stove so he doesn't get hurt. Wish I could lock it and not have to worry if he is going to try and open it again....

great looking . cleaned it three times door locked would not open each time needed a Sears tekkie have extended warranty but was told that it would cost 700 dollars each time if I did not. do you think i am ever going to buy kenmore again its a dam shame everybody is so hungry and not testing things to make sure they work.

My parents were Kenmore appliance loyalists; so, when the range that came with the purchase of our current home totally wore out, we decided to go to Sears. Sales people were helpful and not pushy when we selected this basic range. Delivery people installed the range in our propane fueled home. It cooks very well, cleaned easily and is easy to operate.

The first one we bought lasted until the first self-cleaning, when it threw an F10 error and locked up entirely. Three unsuccessful service visits, under warranty, over the course of the first year changed nothing, and the F10 errors kept coming. Eventually, Sears grudgingly agreed to replace the range. Now, two years later, we have another F10 error. Stupidly, I didn't extend the warranty so I'm on the hook for this costly repair. This was not a cheap range so these problems are unforgivable. Check the internet for plenty of people with experiences like mine! If you're silly enough to buy the range, be smart enough to buy the extended warranty!
