Its been about a year since I installed this heater and the only thing noticably different than my old (Rheem) heater is it is noticably louder when heating than the Rheem. I couldn't even hear the Rheem when the burners kicked on.It's not really bothersome but only noticable. In an atiic, probably wouldn't notice as much as in my garage near the door(in heater closet)Oh yeah, got it for about half price as it was in the store for a while.I think the guy said a customer ordered the wrong one or something like that....

My hot water heater broke down after 22 years [ I can't understand why?? ]. I went to the Sears store in Vernon and bought a new 40 gal heater, aranged to have the plumber pick it up and install it in 2 days. 2 days later he called and said it was the wrong one and it had to be reordered again. I went back to the vernon store and canceled the heater. In the time been the water lines froze under the mobile home that I am living in and I had this same plumber bring a salamender and thaw the pipes. The water line coming out of the ground froze because a heat tape was no good. The owners of the Mobile home park fixed it. Still no hot water. I then went to the Buckland Hills store and ordered a new 40 gal heater. 2 or3 days later the plumber called and said that the town of Vernon said I could not have a propane heater inside my bedroom like it was ,because on some worry about carbom monixed in the house. Back to the G-- D-- store to cancel the propane heater and get a electric one. Now comes......

I purchased the Kenmore Power Miser 9 at Sears because I purchased other Kenmore items and never had a problem with any Kenmore products and appliances. I paid for the installation and a 3 yr service agreement. Five or six months after the installation, we had no hot water. I called for service under the warranty. The repairman came the next day. The repairman said that there is a filter at the bottom of the tank that became clogged because of the dryer hose running through the furnace room. He proceded to use a forced air device to blow the lint or whatever into the burning chamber and it was burned up when he relit the pilot and turned the burner on. This was repeated on several occasions during the three year service agreement. Sometimes the repairman would blow forced air to unclog the filter or they would run a brush over the filter to remove any buildup. The last time, I made sure that the serviceman put a long thin filter over the bottom access point to help keep...
...

Unfortunately, I have a Kenmore Power Miser 9, 40 gal. Propane Water Heater. After a little over two years since the build date and a year and a half since it was installed, it began shutting off. What happened is the control malfunctioned, allowing a small, yellow, flame to exist just below the burner. After about a day, carbon would build up in the burner and cause the pilot to extinguish. I called my plumber and he quickly diagnosed the problem, I ordered the control, he put it in, and it has worked fine ever since. Now the problem! Sears won't reimburse me for the control! The warranty is simply a way for them to get the "Blue Crew" out there at $100+ an hour. After getting transferred around the Sears customer service line for over an hour, I was disconnected! Then when I called after that, I could not get through. Bad product, terrible service. Bottom line: don't buy from Sears!

From a Kenmore Miser 6 after seven years to a Miser 9 water heater. Today the Miser 9 is being installed. 5/14/09 Well, after 7 years it is way to soon for a water heater to start leaking. The end result is $813.00 and this one better last longer than a hand full of years. I found out from a friend at work that there are waterless heaters available where you do not have to settle for 40 gallons of water waiting to explode in your house. I wish I would have known before I made this purchase. If you need a water heater I recommend you go waterless. Now I feel I am stuck. I do not believe Sears offers waterless water heaters.
...

the warranty on the heater is 6 years. it just about made it. i had it just over 6 years,we only use hot water for showers, its just 2 of us. a repair man came out and said it the gas valve had to be replaced. it would cost 300. so, i just decided to replace it. im considering going with a tankless that is 800. with a 12 yr warranty. my suggestion if you do buy this model is,just before it reaches 6 years.....use your imagination!...

This water heater worked perfect for 6 months. Always had plenty of hot water. Now I'm battling the pilot light. It will not stay lit. We never know if we'll have a hot shower or cold shower. The first service call we had the entire burner assembly replaced. (This was actually 2 service calls.) It worked ok for a couple of weeks and now I'm back to the same problem. I recently cleaned the air intake underneath the water heater per the help desks instructions. The pilot lights easier now but still does not stay on. It was out on yesterday morning. This morning and then again tonight. After lighting it I hope it stays on for showers tomorrow....

I called customer service repeatedly. The could not give me any help.
This Unit is a lemon. I have read many forums on line about this water heater. They seem to always fail.
Stay away...
