This laptop has a very nice display, large screen and great features. I had to contact Toshiba support and I was very disappointed with them. They don't seem to care about the customer and it was hard to understand the heavy accents. I got the problem fixed on my own but got the distinct impression that if you have problems Toshiba will just push them back on you. Just something to keep in mind if you are making a decision between brands. This is a good laptop but not a good company as far as customer support.
...

I was so excited when I first opened up the shiny new red netbook, but the excitement faded quickly. The packaging is much better than the content. First, the glossy screen is strictly used for only an indoor mid to low lighting. The small keyboard keeps the big "ham fisted" guys like me away. The touch pad.........well enough said! The real bummer with the Acer Aspire One is the battery pack, the excessive heat, and the frying noise that it made before the netbook crashed (all within the first thirty days)! Sadly, the shiny bright "eye-candy" case provides little or no protection from any of life's bumps or jars. I do not recommend this "bite-size" product. Thank you.
...

Great Computer after few upgrades. i did a memory upgrade boosted it up to 2gig ram for thrity dollars and got an IHome wireless Mouse and Keyboard running it on my flatscreen after that who needs a desktop? 160GB hard drive and i never really have to worry about not having enough room. Full time college student always needing something small and effective and it hit it on the dime, one con is that the top is glossy and gets sumdges on it as well as scratches one thing i do reccommend is a protector for it. definently worth the price if you want something you can take along with you.
...

The Aspire One ultra thin Notebook is a great laptop! It has different login users great for privacy issues. Comes with instruction on little pad on how to move your finger around. very coool. It is also very very light and doesnt take much space at all! My hands are average small girl hands and this computer is like one hand high and two stretched hands wide. Its a great size laptop to take to college. it will be smaller and lighter than your binder if not equal. For me it has much storage space. i have hundreds of pictures and so many documents and it still works great. Im usually online when I'm using it and it works great you can zoom in and out of stuff with you little pad which makes things so much easier for me. It has hours of battery also. Sometimes i see the bar low and i click to see how much power i have left and find out i still have an hour or more. Overall i love it. i works great, runs great. and its a perfect computer for school and me!
...

This laptop is HORRIBLE! I've owned it for a year as of this month, and the screen has gone out 4 times, the AC adapter had broken off once and become loose twice. They tried telling me the adapter was from physical damage despite me never taking it off my laptop stand. Finally, after having to call 3 times yelling and screaming that the screen has gone out again, (after 2 trips to HP technicians and them claiming they recreated the problem and have fixed it) and telling them my computer is making me fall behind in my online classes, they are FINALLY sending me a new computer. This thing is a piece of ****. I cannot run anything on it at the same time as I run photoshop, so the ram is not nearly enough even for one demanding program at a time, the touch pad periodically will not let me use the scroll function and sometimes won't work for days. and the biggest problem with all of this?? the first time my screen went out I only had the computer for 5 months. save up another few hundred more...
...

I have been using my Apple MacBook Pro for over 1.5 years and kept me organized, managed thousands of pictures, even runs VISTA with no problems. I find that the Mac side of operating systems runs smoother and is far more organzied the VISTA system.

Mac programs are easy to use interface well with each other and Office for Mac is far better then Office for PC. Mac's version of Office has more features and easyer to use. Office is a essential tool and Mac version wins out for me. I have been a user of Office for years and still love Office for Mac the best.

So if you want a rock solid laptop that's powerful and workhorse the MacBook Pro is for you each version gets better and lower in cost.

MacBook Pro is worth extra cost over PC notebooks.

I bought the Compaq Presario CQ60 with the intention of using it for work. Being a web site developer, speed and storage are two things that I need to work flawlessly. My programs launch and react faster than they have in years.

The Presario has a wonderfully crisp and clean appearance. The widescreen makes it easier to read and type with.

While it is not the best looking case I have seen, it does the job and that is what matters to me most. I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a great laptop at an unbeatable price.

I do not like Windows Vista, but I will manage to ignore it as long as my CQ60 continues to wow me with its speed.
...

I love my mac. I was a little worried about the price difference between a mac and PC, but after you start adding software and the price of piece of mind and there really is no difference. The software is easy to use and set up was a breeze. I love the finger gestures (no not that kind) that are built into the mousepad - you have to try it to understand how a simple slide of two fingers makes the online experience that much better. The power consumption is great, the keyboard feel, the monitor, the size and weight are all excellent. My only complaint, and it's a small one is that the speakers leave something to be desired. But overall this is a great computer.
...

ToddK says "Dell XPS M1530, you are stealing my heart" about Dell XPS M1530

Let me first start by saying that I am a huge IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad fan, but when I switched jobs, my only option was Mac vs. Dell. I choose Dell as I feel more of a connection with PCs vs. Macs (Mac fans don't bother commenting as you are part of the reason why I can't associate myself with Macs ;-p) Back to my story...

I wasn't very excited to get the Dell as I have formed opinions over the years that ThinkPad was the superior machine and to top it off, I was taking the plunge into the feared Vista world. First, some specs:
Dell XPS M1530
(256 MB graphics card, 15 inch display, 4 gigs ram, 2.4ish gig duo processor, big HDD, integrated camera, fingerprint reader, the whole 9 yards)

I haven't done benchmark tests (and won't) but I do monitor my system and notice that the Dell XPS M1530 is not skipping a beat. I am very finicky with my system as most heavy computer users are and I'm very happy with the performance thus far. I have also set up a dual boot for Linux (yeah, I'm a geek)......

I went to Graduate School for two years and graduated. My Sony Vaio (weighing less than 3 lbs.) was most useful and convenient to carry. I bought a brand new HP laptop which weighed 6 lbs. which I ended up giving away to my daughter. The 9" Vaio did the same job the 15" HP could. Term papers, note taking, Microsoft word applications, power point presentations, researching or just surfing on the internet: my Vaio did all of these. Not to mention listening to music and watching video clips on You Tube. I am going to try for my Doctorate's soon and I don't think I can finish my research and schoolwork without my Sony Vaio........

The Acer Extensa 4620Z is the sort of machine designed for people that work more than play. Mine came with Windows XP, which is a plus no matter what Microsoft says about Vista. With XP, it is relatively fast, comes with a good amount of memory, and will run most of your applications (world, excel, power point, OpenOffice, statistical software, photo editors, etc) without any issues. Plays and writes CDs and DVDs, and has some really foolproof presentation settings (point-and-click presentation mode: it saves to the time to change your settings when you use a LCD projector and stuff). It also reads SD/XD cards, so you can copy your photos from the camera to the laptop without issues. Plenty of ports (4 USB, 1 firewire, LAN, VGA, SVGA), wireless G, IR, bluetooth, and and ol' fax modem (really useful when you travel abroad!). Battery is pretty decent (once again, you use point-and-click settings to choose 'maximum battery' vs. 'maximum' processing power. also love the backup software that...
...

I spent almost a full week reading tons of reviews every day to figure out what my next laptop purchase would be. My qualifications were these: large screen (bigger than 15.4 inches at least), quality sound system, excellent graphics, AMD processor, a lot of memory, and great reviews (just to name a few). I wasn't exactly seeking a desktop replacement, but definitely a computer that will run my programs for photo editing. My Toshiba Satellite A355D does exactly what I need. The performance is fantastic, and I am so stoked about this computer.

My only complaints about it are the finish is a fingerprint magnet! It is glossy and beautiful, but after typing for 10 minutes the entire keyboard is coated. But the computer came with a cleaning cloth that works very well.

I actually like the way 64-bit Vista Home Premium works on this computer. I am not a huge fan of Vista, but I do like the way it works on this machine.

My favorite features are the Dolby digital sound room Harman/Kardon......

I've had this HP DV6110US laptop almost 2 years now and am generally satisfied with it. It came with XP and a "coupon" to upgrade to Vista (which wasn't yet released, still in Beta)...and I did install Vista 32-bit business version and have had no problems with Vista (except the normal "big brother" issues) but neither would I have gone much out of my way to install Vista had it not been offered as free upgrade.

I used to have several IBM Thinkpads, and miss the "Trackpoint" device...guess I got used to using it, and miss it on the HP laptops. Also, the AC adapter runs VERY hot (the system itself runs hot, but this isn't too unusual for current laptops)...you can burn yourself on it if you aren't careful...also I had to replace the AC adapter due to stress flex in the cord (DC) which caused it to stop working. But the HP laptops seem to be a bit better value than the corresponding Lenovo (used to be IBM) ones.

The biggest issue I've had with this laptop is having to return...
...

This review is for the Sony 220E/P that I just bought my wife. In fact, it's what I am using right now. It's an outstanding laptop with a larger than average screen size.

Pro's: Really good black level (when watching movies, this comes in handy)

It's very quick to boot up, and doesn't take long to open programs

It has 4 usb inputs, so I can leave my printer, mouse, and camera plugged in at the same time

         It's wifi capable

It's one of the few pink computers I have seen that's actually made well

Cons: Screen smudges easily (as to most glossy screens)

Type pad is quite large and very sensitive

Battery is large and runs a little hot

Overall, I would give this laptop an 8.5/10 factoring in price and attributes.
...

I use the HP Pavilion DV9000 PC mostly for presentations, email and Internet surfing and the display is much better than any other laptop I have owned. It's a little bulkier, so doesn't always fit in standard laptop cases, but well worth the extra size for the large screen's clarity. I've been using it daily for a year and still love it.
...

mmommiz says "Dell Inspiron 1521 Laptop could be better" about Dell Inspiron 1521 Laptop

I purchased the Dell Inspiron 1521 for my daughter for college. When it arrived, it would not read cds. We called tech assistance immediately and ended up having to send it back. When she got the new one, she upgraded the memory, following the instructions, because after all, she did own a laptop with Windows Vista. 5 months in the memory failed due to Vista compatability problems. Then she started getting blue screens, pixelated desktop and video, and even microsoft word started acting erractically. Again we called tech assistance and they sent a new harddrive 5 days later. They are obviously trying to save money if you are familiar with pcs, but if a person is green or "pc challenged" good luck trying to send it back. They would insist you talk with a tech to do an installation. Replacing the hard drive turned out to be 1,2,3, and it was ready to go again. So far so good until she has to add a program from one of her classes. Then it will be more calls to tech assistance, which take alot...
...

Hello, The HP Pavilon Laptop computer is a great choice. This computer has awesome gadgets and programs. The screen is HD which makes the view extremely clear. The computer has a built-in camera. This camara is very clear and the computer has a program in which you can add effects to the picture or while you are having a video conversation with some one. Also the keys are very soft and they dont make as much noise as other computers. The computer is very awesome overall. Also the computer's color and texture is very nice.

In conclusion this computer is a great choice when it comes to buying a computer.
...
