I bought this computer for my grandma. It is the first computer she ever owned, but wanted to be able to email and play games and type letters on. I didn't want to have to worry about updates and viruses and such so I went with Linux. It worked very well, she learned it and loves it and it has never been turned off since it came out of the box....

I have used Linspire for years (Freespire is based on it), and it is an excellent operating system. If you need help with configuring anything, there is a Freespire forum. You can also upgrade to the 2.08 version and all versions for free. This is not a computer for gamers, but for everything else it offers clicknRun which downloads and installs a huge amount of free software. I use both XP and Linspire on the same hard drive, and prefer the Linux OS. Forget about new virii, spyware and hacker attacks--it is nearly immune, and the built in firewall is far better than Windows. This is a purchase you won't regret. Those who normally do hacking are actually contributing to Linux constantly, developing new software and making is secure. People are looking for other options from Vista. This gives you complete control over your computer like DOS used to (but you won't need to if you're the average user. If I could recommend ten stars, I'd do it....

SeniorCyberCitizen says "Freespire makes this machine shine!" about Mirus Intel Celeron D 420-1.6Ghz 1GB RAM 80GB HD CDRW Freespire-Linux OS

As a long-time Linux user (beginning with Slackware back in 1995) it's been fun to see how this very capable OS and its associated software have come to lead the market until today the main commercial operating systems (Mac and Windows) struggle to keep up. Because Linux is used by so many software developers, many commercial programs start out on Linux, so Freespire software is easy to use by anyone familiar with either of the leading commercial operating systems, and just as easy to learn.
Freespire carries on this tradition, and Mirus makes the most of it, offering a "user experience" which surpasses the latest versions of Vista and the Mac OS on bargain- priced hardware. Freespire comes with a package of software which, on a Windows or Mac PC, would cost more than this entire system, and because of Freespire's (Linux') efficient use of the hardware, the Mirus runs as fast as much more expensive machines running one of the commercial operating systems.
Freespire, like Vista and the Mac......

I received this computer yesterday and have been spending every waking hour trying to get online. The internal modem is not recognized by the Freespire OS... at least not in my computer. I use dial-up and getting online has been impossible. With the help of my trusty laptop, I researched and e-mailed for help, including Mirus. Still awaiting a reply from manuf., but cannot remedy problem that seems to be common in the Freespire 2.0 OS. I have adapted o.k. to the other aspects of the OS, but am limited due to the inability to connect to the internet. If not remedied soon, it will go back to Sears. FREESPIRE 2.0 version is NOT hospitable to dial-up! Otherwise, the computer is working well and I'm sad to have to return it and go back to *gag* Windows!...

Linspire is a great choice to learn Linux with.
Like Apple computers, Linspire is virus and spyware free.

This is a great choice for students or parents looking to do school work or office work.

Comes with excellent features such as a dvd/cd burner. When I ordered it, I thought it came with the monitor seen in the picture as it gave no indication that it did not come with the flat screen monitor only to find out later that it was not included. When I received it, the discription was changed, stating that it did not include the monitor. The tower was well worth the money but do not go by the picture alone and please read the discription carefully. Overall, I would highly recommend this product....

This is the best 300 dollars i have invested in a computer. Everything works great with good speed, I'm just a simple mom who needs it to browse the the web, check on my email, my bank statements, upload my kids pictures, this computer is not like the windows xp that we had but is at least twice as fast. The only bad thing for me is that i had to get use to the way is everything is on the desktop but is not difficult to learn. I recommend it to anyone that wants to save money and wants a brand new computer....

True Linux advocates might just post that this is a decent way to break into a different operating system and still have a functional system, rather than boasting up something that isn't offered here.

Linspire and its relative Freespire offer the Click 'n' Run repository which should be easier for many Windows users to accept, as opposed to the Ubuntu methods. Linspire produces a stable system, even as Ubuntu offers a stable system. The up-side here would be the LinSpire click and run paradigm which Ububtu does not offer.

While not the most powerful system on the planet, this system certainly offers enough functionality for people that want to edit documents, balance their checkbooks, and not need a half dozen protection programs such as anti virus, etc....

This is not a gaming machine. However, this is an excellent machine for web surfing, writing email, running office suites, doing your finances and having a secure, virus free computer while doing it all. Freespire has a free service with thousands of programs that install with one mouse click (they call it click and run). You will not be able to purchase software designed for Windows (as you can't with a Mac either), but you will be able to complete all of your basic home tasks in a secure computing environment. This computer offers all of the great qualities of a Mac and a fraction of the cost....
