It scared me when they unloaded the tractor of the trailer. It sounded like the engine was coming apart. I later started it up to move it to the back. Once again it sounded almost like it was knocking or didn' have a muffler on it. It also lopes even at the higher RPMs. I went back to the store to Question these concerns and they told me they were both normal and would improve with time. He even started one that he had there, and it sounded the same. Scary!!!
...

This is my second and last Craftsman Tractor. I had the first for 9 years and its was still functioanl when I got the one I have now. The new unit has been nothing but trouble with at least 1 major repair problem in each of the last 4 years, and I should have dumped it in year 3.. The engine is fine, except for the ever dead baterry, the belts and transmission rattle constantly, and the cutting blade deck is so thin it will bend and produce an uneven cut at the slighest bump. Really a piece of junk.
...

Just picked up my LTS2000 today and found that there is a learning curve to overcome when owning this tractor. After I figured everything out I find this to be a very, almost too powerful machine that seems to be built very well.

My first trouble was with starting the motor for the first time. I filled the tank with fresh gas and added Stabil to the tank right away also and checked the oil level and it was good. Since the temperature was 40* F I used the cold starting guide in the manual. Well after a few minutes of it running rough it finally smoothed out and runs great. I am sure that this was just because it was cold out and it was the egines first strart. Even though, I still called Sears to tell them about it so it is on file if I have any trouble with the motor in the future.

Now here is the funny / scary thing about my new tractor. The clutch is very touchy and I actually pulled the front wheels off the ground 2 times in 6th gear and even once in 5th gear with out trying to. I find...
...

Living on a 10 acre fruit tree farm my family has owned many lawnmowers. Over the past 15 years or so my parents have been using Craftsman 42 inch cut machines with the latest being the LT2000. We have operated several of these mowers under extreme conditions which would normally warrant a commercial grade machine.

What's fantastic about these machines is that they have lasted nearly as long as and have given fewer headaches than many of our commercial mowers which cost 3-5 times as much. My parents also keep the same model at their vacation home where we frequently have to mow foot-tall grass. For my personal home I own another LT2000 which I bought about a year ago. None of these machines require more than expected maintenance and have all been trouble free.

A couple quirks to mention are the sensitive clutch and the slow reverse gear. I personally didn't have a problem getting used to the clutch and the slow reverse is a small compromise considering.

The factory blades are made of soft...
...

Craftsman C3 19.2 volt Radio Controlled Racing Truck has done it again with innovation and invention. No other tool manufacturer has a radio controlled vehicle that I can think of; ONLY CRAFTSMAN. This baby has pickup, speed, and ease of control. The transmitter is shaped like an impact drill. You control the left and right turn with a wheel attached on the right of the impact. And the forward and reverse is controlled by a trigger just like an impact driver. The more batteries you have the more hours of driving enjoyment. Have hours of endless fun with your kids. It's too bad they pulled it off the shelf from the stores I visit in Dade County but you can still get it online. Happy Driving!...

Dwn2erth says "GREAT MOWER DOES EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT FOR THE PRICE!" about Craftsman LT 2000 19.5 HP/42" Lawn Tractor

Got this mower a year ago. Its first trial was to cut a 1 acre lot with heavy grass and weeds two feet high. It did a super job. Next it went to another house to cut a 1 acre lot with 2 inch tall grass. Cut clean and neat and did a job just as good as a push or pull walking lawn mower. It slows down using the brake for corners, and makes good sharp turns. Taking off from stop is easy and smooth. Just learn how to use the clutch and the brake. Power is excellent and gives you more speed than you'll probably need. Easy to fill with with gas as access to gas tank is convenient and easy to get to. Changing air filter and oil is also a breeze as these are all easy to get to. This is my first riding lawn mower and after comparing pricing with other brands, I am impressed. I also hit a tree stump in the tall grass which I did not see even though I was a lookin and I darn near went head over heals over the steering wheel. I thought for sure I had damaged the blade housing. Not a dent or distortion....
...

Owned the 2000 lt for a couple of yrs now. Overall, a solid machine. The good: Never short of power. Engine runs smooth, easy maintenance, pretty well designed - though I've not had to do much more than change blades from mulch to straight cut and greasing. I got a used clippings catcher system for $20 and works OK. I recommend getting a clippings catching system - I found that I had far far fewer bugs in the lawn when I vacuumed them up. I also got a used sweepings unit ($20) and this does a good job of sweeping up dry leaves. When its wet (as is often the case in Portland, OR), additional passes may be needed to get the last 20% of leaves. I also got a front end de-thatcher ($120) for ripping up "old-laid-down-dead-grass' out of the lawn. It's sort of brutal on the lawn each time I do it, so I only do it once each year. Well designed de-thatcher. Shifting levers are OK as far as ruggedness. I like the way it can be backed up with the blades running. Seating is...
...

I bought this in January, but being in MI didn't get to use it until late March. From the first use, one of the blades cuts lower than the other, leaving grass ribbons, and looks like you missed rows. I the Users Manual says nothing about adjusting that, and now when I make a turn left or right it cuts down to the dirt, and I now have bare patches all over the lawn. I have always set the level at 6, yet it still does these scarrings. I warn you, do not buy a craftsman, as you will be very dissappointment, as was and still am.
...

I needed a new mower because I live on a very steep hill. I had a Toro, but it had a hydrostatic transmission, and the hydrostatic doesn't work very good on the hills. Toro makes a good product, but the transmission type wasn't good enough for the hill. Anyways, after looking around, I found this mower. The reviews weren't very good, but I bought it anyway. I have to say, this is a great mower. It goes up the hill with no problem at all in 4th gear, and it cuts even. The 19.5 horsepower engine is great, compared to my old 14.5. I would highly recommend this. I have used Craftsmen push mowers that work great, but this is the first riding mower I have purchased from them. Sears was helpful in the process while choosing, and the sales associate that inspired me to buy this knew what he was talking about....
