One big improvement to make it more comfortable to use by taller people would be to have the handle adjustable to different heights.I have to bend down to align it to the ground for maximum contact. Some older models had heigher handles.

Also, it becomes clogged when using on a vine type grass like St. Augustine Floratam.

For medium height people with northern varieties of grass it would probably be perfect.
...

batman7800 says "Save yourself - Do not purchase" about Craftsman 29cc Wheeled Edger w/ Speed Start

I purchased this edger in April 2010. The first season it started with the pull rope. The beginning of the second season it took the power drill to start and then mid summer it regressed to power drill plus starting fluid to start. Finally it would not start at all. Since it was still under warranty, I took it to the Sears store where purchased. They do not evaluate it where you bought it. They ship it to Dallas. A customer service rep called me about a week later and said it needs a new short block because it was caused by too much or not enough oil. I find this hard to believe since it did not smoke at all. It was only hard to start. The rep could not direct me to anyone higher and said my option was to send it back. After it arrived at the Sears store where I purchased, I spoke with the manager who read from the service report what they found. No leeway. None of we are sorry that our edger is a piece of dung. She did ask if I wanted to purchase a new edger. Are you serious? I told her...
...

FortBendNeighbor says "Performs as described" about Craftsman 158cc 4 Cycle Gas Edger- 49 State

I was leary of purchasing this product due to the reviews about it being hard to start. But there isn't many competitors in this price range, so I decided to give it a try knowing that Sears would back their product. I was pleasantly surprised. I have had this product a year already and have not had any problems getting it started. I follow the sugestion of another reviewer where he said to press the button 7 to 10 times instead of just 3.

I like the curbing feature but I have to spray WD-40 on it often, otherwise it gets too dificult to adjust.

I had to get used to the fact that this unit does not have a throttle. My previous unit did. But the motor was sufficiently strong and have not had any problems. The only problem I have had is that the guard gets hung up on the grass often. Other reviewers have stated that they trim the guard, but I have chosen to not modify the guard....

Easy to assemble and easy to use. Works fine if you read the owners manual first and follow the directions. The drier the soil, the less clogging of the blade. I like the blade design as it cuts better than most since it has cutting teeth and not just a straight edge. It cleans up very easy and the blade housing comes apart easily for cleaning.
...

Bought the edger for my house...standard corner lot yard. This was not for heavy duty or commercial use. Out of the box it was fairly easy to assemble. Oil it up put some gas in it and it is ready to go.

The problem is that the engine is too small...well the CC's are probably fine for most jobs but there was a problem with the belt mechanism. It had a hard time dealing with being put on the lowest level. The resistance seemed to be too much and may have caused the mechanism that turn the blade to over heat...melt and literally burn up. The single handle was also a turn off. It doesn't feel sturdy at all. The level to engage the blade is at an awkward angle/locaiton as well. Overall bad design.

When I took the edger in after the 3rd use (as it burned itself up) it was still under manufacturerers warranty. "Craftsman" warranty covers everything except for parts that wear out over normal use and abuse. The Service Dept literally wanted to charge me $110 Plus tax to repair the 4 month old edger....
...

I opened the box and thought I could lift the edger right out. Read the manual and cut the box side open first. Your back will appreciate it. Assembly was easy. Almost everything is connected and It's a matter of screwing and tightening the bolts for the handle bar. I poured in the the supplied oil and gas w/stabilizer primed it and it fired on the first pull. It is powerful, solid and stable and it's definitely more machine than I need but I was able to get it for almost the same price as the model below it. There is no way to adjust the engine speed but it seems to compensate depending on the type of edging I have done so far. This is all new to me so I need to use it more to get it just right. My height adjustment moves the blade as directed and I have had no problems with the real wheel adjuster. Overall, I like it and hope it will last me for many seasons to come....

This one is a good catch. Easy to use and store away. This edger is a very nice, well built unit. It does a great job too. Very simple assembly, right out of the box, ready to run. Easy to use, and well balanced unit. I wondered about the price,as is a little higher than other brand units, but appears to be well worth the extra money. I have about 300 feet of edging to do, and this unit does it flawlessly....

Received this brand new edger last week. Finally had time to assemble it yesterday. Shipping box showed inadequate protective packaging (the edger blade cut through the bottom of the shipping box in several places) and evidence of rough handling. I was able to correct the obvious damage by bending back those things which became bent during transportation when forklift tines penetrated the shipping box.

Successfully assembled the item even though the assembly instructions did not address over half the items needing assembly.

And then came my attempts to adjust the edger cut depth in order to get the edger blade off the ground. Long boring story. Simplified version is the wheel adjustment cable (part # 946-04036, ref # 46 in the parts list diagram) is too long. This keeps the blade depth control lever from proper operation. The net result is I cannot use this item.

Sears wouldn't send me a free new cable (on the off-chance that the originally installed cable is the wrong item for this......
