I purchased this tractor last summer and decided to give it some time before I review it to give a better review.

It's been nearly 6 months since I've purchased it and it's been working great. I've had no issues whatsoever with the tractor and have used it many times since I've bought it. I was a little wary of buying a 42" tractor for just under $900 but it's been working great. I even purchased the Craftsman trailer cart and it's worked great as well. I still plan to buy the aerator and possibly the bagging unit. Some downsides are the fact that you can't turn off the headlights or it doesn't work in reverse. I plan to make a switch for the headlights, but it really should have one already.

It came down to either this or the Husquevarna unit for $1600 that was on sale. I'm glad I saved my money with this buy.
...

I have long ********** user and was needing a new mower but was out of work. I went to sears to see what they had. I was lucky enough to find a last year model on clearance and bought it. Craftsman makes a great mower. It cuts even, and gets good " yards per gallon" on gas. I am impressed and will continue to buy Craftsman products from now on.
...

This mower goes fast with an even cut, even on rough uneven ground. I would recomend getting the pull behind sweeper insted of the bagger, weather wet from rain or dew in the morning on the grass will plug the tube going up to bagger! Also when you go in revers weather mistake or cause you wanted to , the blades shute off and you have to turn them off ( push button in) then on again before going again ( pull it out).... But is worth it. I went from mowin with a 24 inch deck to the 42 and instead of 1/12 to cut 1 1/2 of yard grass. it takes less then 20 mins now!...

I purchased a LT 2000 Craftsman in October 2009, similar to this model. The tractor leaked oil from the engine shaft in 1 week onto my garage concrete floor, not a good sign. It was returned immediately to the store where I purchased it. I was pleasantly surprised to get a replacement model delivered promptly to my home no questions asked. Well two weeks ago the engine on the replacement tractor made an unusual tapping noise and stalled. Now it will not restart. I called Sears service, explained the problem and was told out of warranty and the recourse is for me to pay for the service call and repair. What a poor quality product that fails within 60 days of the warranty period. Imagine your car engine failed so soon after the warranty. Would you buy another from the same manufacturer ever again? Anyway I am stuck and will have the service call for a fee to diagnose the engine problem and estimate the repair cost. The LT 2000 has been maintained in accordance with the Craftsman...
...

I bought this model two years ago, right now the transmission get oil leakage. I checked online, lot of this model have the same problem on the left side. Change the transmission costs at least $610 if you can take it off from the mower. Then I took it off and found a local person who can fix the problem but charged me $350. At least I saved the $1000.
...

MajorP says "Craftsman tractor scalps the yard" about Craftsman 17.5HP* Shift-on-the-Go 42&#34 Lawn Tractor 49 States

This tractor was bought from a Sears outlet store after being returned for repairs. It was given a full check by Sears before being resold as a fully & properly functioning tractor with an efffective warranty. However, after using ONE time to cut the grass, my beautiful yard was scalped & nearly ruined because of a deck that would not raise to an appropriate height. I wonder now if this wasn't the reason the tractor was returned to Sears in the first place by the first buyer. After notifying Sears repair about this issue, they came out to inspect the tractor & offered that it "should not be used on St. Augustine grass as it will scalp it due to a low deck" & that this is a "known problem with this tractor model"! Why would a Sears repair person deem this to be the problem & yet Sears did not make this buyer aware of that fact?? Now a second purchaser of this same tractor is saddled with returning it to Sears so it can be reinspected & resold to an unsuspecting THIRD buyer! I am very disappointed...
...
