We have just started using our Mantis Tiller. It fits so nicely in our 12X7 grow boxes. It is easy and light to move around. It really tears up the dirt and chews it nicley. It can be adjusted to get in to the narrow spots and not take out our plants. It is an Awesome unit.
...

I purchased my mantis several years ago. My reason was because the bigger tillers were so hard to handle and move around. I like that it is so lightweight and can be carried from place to place without straining your back. I also like that it will work on any soil. I live where it is mostly clay and extreamly hard to till, but the mantis does a great job. I have even used it to loosen driveway gravel that was impossible to get a shovel to penetrate!
...

This little mini tiller did a great job preparing the soil in my little kitchen garden. It sounds manly and looks manly-but no man was required for the job. I was able to use it easily and my garden was well aeriated and ready for planting! Saved $ not having to pay a gardener or wait two years for my husband to help! Had a bountiful harvest all on my own....

I bought this unit from Sears. This is not the deluxe model, it does not have akick start feature. To say this is a cold blooded machine is an understatement. Since the day I bought it I have had trouble getting it started. I have many 2 cycle machines and none have this problem. It is less than a year old. I have cleared the gas tank, checked the carburetor, changed the spark plug. It just doesn't want to start if cold! Once running is seems o.k. until you get to the end of the row, and as soon as you release the gas, it dies. A small engine shop just shrugged it off as characteristic of little machines like this. I will say that if warmed up it is easier to start. I used larger tillers in the past and wanted a lighter, easier to handle unit for my small garden thinking it would be handy for my wife...she won't use it because she can't control it. I wish I had a bigger one, now. This thing is o.k. if the soil is loose. If compacted or if part of the path is loose...
...

I'm 5'6" and weigh about 135. I can handle this tiller reasonably well. If I were taller, the fit would be perfect. It chewed through rocks and Augustine grass without problem. It digs deeper faster if you pull it towards you. Dirt flew like a gas-powered tiller....

I got this to do edging around my wifes flower gardens and it works great for tht. Now I have to get her to learn how to use it. We remove the 2 outer tines to get in the tight spaces and its easier to control. I have used this when we put in the new house and needed to make a slight drainage ditch under the deck area before building. I also use it to turn the compose pile, So far so good. This is not a tiller for large garden breaking but works well between the rows....

I found this tiller to be easy to set up (hardest thing is to get out of box), and pretty easy to use.

the only negative thing about it is the handle to engage the blades sets lower than my hands can reach, so you will have to adjust that so the blades don't engage as soon as you start to pull the handle up.

otherwise, it starts up at the first pull, and has plenty of power for even our hard red clay soil. it is alittle hard to turn at first but you get used to it and figure out how to manage.
...

adanker75 says "Powerful work-horse for small jobs" about Craftsman 31cc* 2-Cycle Mini Tiller

This Mini Tiller has been a true work-horse for creating shrub gardens around the house. If you maintain a craftsman tool with care during each season you will get many years from the equipment. I have had this tiller now for 3+ years and every year I break it out of the shed it starts right up afer a few primes.

I live in an area where there are pine trees all around with many many roots. You can expect to clean the tines frequently to keep your tiller working at its best. One thing that they designed easy to do is to remove the tines for this operation to go over quickly so you can get back to work.

One more item I can say about this is that it's light weight and just about anyone can manuever it into place around your garden. It's a 2-stroke so it sips gas too.

Thanks and happy tilling!

I was very pleased with the power that this little guy packs. It does quite a good job behind the retaining wall that outlines the south and west sides of my in-ground pool. The soil has a fair amount of clay that has been mixed in with the organic gardening soil I buy, but with a little intermittment cleaning, it tackles the job nicely.
...

I purchased this Sears Tiller about 10 months ago. I needed to prepare my yard for putting down 35 pallets of sod. My house was just build and the land had been a pasture and part quarry. This tiller worked perfectly. I tilled the ground down to about 7 inches. The soil consisted of hard packed soil, many rocks and large boulder. Some of the boulders were over 40Lbs but the tiller just pop them out and never broke a share pin. After I finished the yard I cleared a small aircraft runway across my property. That was a challenge but the tiller came through. My neighbor saw how well it worked and borrowed it to put in his garden. Maybe I got a better tiller than some of other reviewers but I am very pleased with mine and it continues to work great....
