The Craftsman Self-Propelled Mower that I have is the perfect mower! I love the high back wheels, front wheel drive, and mulching capabilities. I fell inlove with mulching the first time I ever used it! It's so much easier than mowing and then raking or mowing and emptying a bagger every couple of swipes. I also like how if you let go of the selp propel handle it stops going. It's perfect for turning corners and getting in and out of tight spaces easily and without tearing up your yard. This mower has everything I need and more!
...

The Limited Edition Front Wheel Drive walk behind 50 State Model is one of the best mowers I ever owned. The cut is great, the power is there for high grass cutting, and starts with no problem. When used in the mulching mode it also preforms well. Grass collection bag is easy on - easy off and has a good capacity. The mower is very quite and fuel efficient for being such a work horse. If there was one thing that I would add to this model it would be at least the ability for one slower speed, not a variable speed, on the drive end. I look forward to having many years of good service from this mower.
...

This review applies to the Craftsman 21" Front Wheel Drive Limited Edition Mower-50 State Model. This mower runs great so far... I haven't had any problems. I was frustrated with my old mower that would start whenever the stars were perfectly aligned. I purchased this mower online and picked it up about a week later. From talking to the sears employee working when I picked up the mower, I found out that I could have picked it up the day I ordered it. I was supposed to receive a confirmation email when it was ready to be picked up... I never got one. I guess that's really my only complaint. I would recommend calling your pick-up location a few days after ordering to see if it's ready. Anyways... the mower was very easy to assemble (15-20 minutes), the cutting height was very easy to adjust, and it started on the first pull (Hallelujah!!!). I have only owned the mower for a few weeks, so I...
...

When I first got this mower I loved it. It started easily and the speed was great for getting the lawn mowed quickly. After a month or two a vibration developed and began to shake the whole thing apart. The two screws that hold the motor cover on came off, one of the bolts in the muffler came out, I've tightened the torx bolts in the frame and have lost one. I got on the Sears website and looked up some troubleshooting tips. I was directed to replacing my blade. I did that and it helped a bit. I finally took it into the store when I bought it and the young man assured me that it was still under warranty and that they would call if there was any problem. I got the call and man was there a problem. They estimate the repair to be $142. The parts include a blade hub, blade, filter, belt, plug, oil seal, crank shaft and crankcase gasket. I've not yet spoken to the service center but I am really not happy with this bill. It seems that if you have a nicely manicured lawn and never put any stress...
...

Have had this mower since September 2008 and have had nothing but problems with this mowers. First drive cable broke ant took abouth 3 months before cable came. Had to use vise grip in the mean time. Belts have been replaced 3 times. Get in thick grass and the belt starts smoking. Does not mulch that well. Leave a trail of grass on the right side of mower. Deck is broke now. Been down for a month. Service is a joke. Set up an appointment. This take a week before serviceman come out. Service man order parts. Take another week before parts comes in. Another week to get the service man back to put parts on. If the right parts are ordered the first time. You needs a reliable stand by during down time. Sears does not seems to care about this. This mower was not researched enough before been placed on the market. Engine has lot of power true is enough, but mowing component are not suited for this engine. Would not recommend this mower.
...

Craftsman Professional 21" Walk Behind Caster Mower is a professional mower without the price. (88776) Twenty-one inch deck, with caster wheels on the front for easy manueverability. Some assembly is required but it is very easy. Very powerful Briggs and Stratton Engine (8.75 Torque), 6 speeds, mulch, bag, electric start, just about everything you need to take care of your lawn with the greatest of ease. The down fall to this mower is that the wingnuts for the front wheels are made out of plastic, so you may want to replace them with metal ones or just be careful. This will not impact the ability to cut. This is a very impressive mower.

...

Brought this Craftmen 37653 on July 13, 2008 after using four times and having the machine for one month the starter did not work any longer, I check the key if its open and the safety switch all ok. I knew the battery were in the rear botton left compartment I took the cover off, to my suprise the compartment was filled with wet grass clipping (compost, Manure) with the battery clip turn green and the acid ate the red clip and broke-off. The battery are not an a water proof compartment but just set there bare after each cut I used the water fitting to rinse the botton as told in the manual. I return the mower back and the saleman told me that the battery were on the middle handle in a case last year and did not understand why Craftmen put them below. After being a skilled trademan for thrity five years I was turn-off with Craftman to do a engineering change such as this. The Manager of Sears Depatment told me he will write a letter to the manufacturer. The rear wheel battery...

...

You cannot go wrong with buying the Craftsman Limited Edition Honda mower. It takes mere minutes to setup and I especially like the looks of the mower.

Once I had the mower gassed and oiled up it only took 2 pulls and I was off. Don't forget to turn the gas on via the little lever on the side of the engine and also don't forget to install the plug wire. On a side note, the plug wire came off at one point while mowing but I simply put the wire back on and it never came off again.

The mower ran very quiet and was very smooth, the self propelled feature is very nice and does not go so quick that you can't keep up with it like other models I tested. Once thing I noticed was that the left rear wheel was a little bent, I will have to try straightening it but the mower still cut my grass with no issues at all. The mower never bogged down one bit even in the thick tall stuff.

The pros to this mower would be, you don't have to clean the bottom deck when mulching half way through the job like some...
...

I live in Broward County, South Florida. I have a corner lot with typical flat areas of grass in the front yard and along the easment on the west side of my property. I purchased this mower because the one I inherited from the previous homeowner was really past its prime and struggled to cut the lawn over 4 or 5 inches. I probably could have spent a hundred or so to repair it but I'm like many and decided it was time for a new one.

This mower comes nearly assembled, save for the grass collector and side thrower. You have to unfold the push bar and tighten the provided hand nuts. You must put the included oil in and charge the battery overnight, if you want to use the electric start. This model has the key start as well as the pull start which is nice. The mower starts on the first key turn or pull of the cord. I have mine set to mulch so I can't comment on the grass collector or side throw features. This mower does not have the all wheel height adjustment lever that some...
...

I bougnt this mower for less than $300.00 out the door at Sears. My Toro was in the shop with transmission problems and the grass was getting pretty high so I had to have another (inexpensive) mower. It took my wife and I about 20 minutes to set it up, add the oil and fuel, and pull the chord. It started after the second pull and has operated flawlessly since. My wife and I really appreciate the light weight. That is especially helpful in areas where you don't use the drive mechanism. It pushes forward easily even in deep grass. The Honda engine has ample power and uses very little fuel. I like the compact aggressive looks of it too. I call it the "little mule". So far it has handled cutting my 1/3 acre yard without complaint The best compliment I can give this little mower is that I feel pretty fresh after having cut the yard. I have never been able to say that regarding prior mowers I have owned. I highly recommend this mower and the service I got at Sears was top notch.
...

This is by far the poorest purchase I ever made. Whoever has positive reviews for this lawn mower must be smoking something. From the first use (6 cuttings ago) it would not mulch. The design is pit-I-ful. It clumps up and stops if your grass is too long, and you have to raise the wheels to the point of not cutting anything before it stops. What a horrible design!! Its going back.....Stay away.
...

The Craftsman 22" multi-cut 160cc Honda powered mower is really a pleasant surprise! My Craftsman with a Briggs Had the helix gear wear out after 8 yrs. of great service. Changed out the drive belt & that didn't work. So went into the gear box, figured it was time for something new. I was very skeptical about the Honda engine, but this model had all the features I was looking for and then some. So I gave it a shot and to this point am VERY pleased, my property is Mr, In Between not quite large enough to justify a rider, yet large enough to make mowing a daunting task with a push mower.

Put some Mo-Deck on it and later started mowing. I broke a sweat keeping up with it, not because of mowing. May put flames on it, I call it the Screamin' Demon. I had some pretty tall grass after my breakdown, and at the #4 setting it cut through it like a hot knife through butter warmed. What is normally a 120 min. ordeal became a 45 min pleasure. Had to confirm that time with my wife, because it just...
...

I got this mower a month ago and have been really pleased with it. I put down St Augustine sod in my front yard and needed a mower that would cut it high enough. I have a large riding mower that the deck would not raise up high enough. So I use this husqvarna just in my front yard which is 5000 sf. I cranks on the first or second pull everytime and provides a smooth even cut. I got it on sale for 269 and then another 25 off for getting it online. Make sure to check tightness on the bolts holding the wheels on. Mine were loose. I was unsure about getting a mower with no choke or throttle ajustments but I could not be pleased more. It pulls itself really well and I like the variable speed control on it.
...

My first run with this lawn mower brought out the fact that this Craftsman is heavier, sturdier, powerful, quieter, and definitely has better grip (my last Craftsman was front wheel drive). A longer wheelbase contributed to some initial maneuverability clumsiness, but this peculiarity goes away soon after figuring out how to effectively use (or not use) rear wheel power.

I reviewed commenter issues and respect their opinions; however, most were not issues for me. Upon reviewing the specs and physical aspects of the lawnmower it didn't take long to see where improvements have surfaced: Powerful B&S engine (what more can I say about B&S); Rear wheel drive (better traction than front wheel drive); Variable drive (awesome ... let's hope it's as durable as the single speed); Wheel height adjustment (much better ... if you will place your hand under the frame and lift slightly to take the weight off the wheel,...
...

I shopped for a Craftsman 22in. Mower at my husbands request, he wanted certain features but not all the new gadgets on it. So I went into Sears, and met with the Salesperson whom showed me a few fully loaded. I mentioned the magic words, 22in. self propelled, high wheels and we were in business........ I knew my husband wouldn't care forthe wash plug, but its an added you don't have to use. He complained about it not being plain enough, until he pulled the cord. After cutting the entire lawn, he did a 190..... He agrees, this is the best Craftsman Mower yet. It runs first pull, it has the front propelled belt drive and the safety of the bag attachment is awesome. I recommend no other Self Propelled for everyone. Now, we literally fight over who is going to do the lawns!!!
...

I purchased a snapper self propelled lawn mower a couple of months ago from The Davenport Ia Sears. I was starting up my lawn care Business I looked all over for a lawn mower that was going to last and the thing that i liked was there was nothing but good reviews on the snapper Lawn mower. I have only one thing that i don't like about the lawnmower, That is the fresh start cartldge that you have to replace. It ran out on me in the middle of a lawn job and the lawn mower started running rough. But other then that it has been a great lawn mower.
...

junebug1701 says "Craftsman 37653 - All slip, no grip!" about Craftsman Front Propelled Rear Bag Lawn Mower w/ Rear High Wheels

I bought the Craftsman 37653 mower because the salesman told me that front wheel drive was better than rear wheel drive. He said he uses a front wheel drive Craftsman himself. Took it home, assembled the handle, added oil and put the charger on the battery. Next day I adjusted the height to 5, added gas and turned the key. The Briggs & Stratton 675 Platinum engine started right up and ran strong. Started mowing the grass and it seemed to work well at first. But right off the bat, the first time I backed up the mower, the rear deflector flap swept under the deck and got chopped up by the blade. Not a very good design or first impression. I started to notice the front drive wheels seemed to be slipping a lot in my thick St. Augustine grass. I had to squeeze the speed control fully and either push it forward or lift up on the handle to create more downforce on the front wheels. And as the grass bag would fill, it would transfer more weight to the large rear wheels which would cause the front...
...

junebug1701 says "Craftsman 37436--Best mower I have ever owned!!" about Craftsman Rear Propelled Rear Bag Lawn Mower with Key Start

For years I have been fighting with these cheap lawn mowers from the discount stores. They would run OK for a year or two, but even with oil changes and tune ups, they would always start giving me trouble--hard to start, hard to keep running, hard to push, poorly designed wheels and height adjustments. I decided to finally spend the money and get a top-quality self-propelled mower that would last a long time. My first choice was the Craftsman model 37653 which is front-wheel drive. The salesman at Sears said that front-wheel drive is better and that's what he uses at home. I took his advice and got the 37653. After using it twice I found that in my thick grass the front wheels slip quite a bit because they have very little traction. I was having to push the mower almost as much as my old non-propelled model. And as the bag fills with grass, more weight is placed on the rear, decreasing traction on the front wheels even more. Also, due to a design flaw in the 37653, when you pull it backwards,...
...

AlwaysWatchingDFW says "This Craftsman is not worthy of its name. Prior model was better" about Craftsman 6.75 Torque 22 in. Deck Rear Bag Front Propelled Lawn Mower with High Wheels

I Love Craftsman, everything!

This mower is the second in this size, I have owned. The bag is smaller. The hole that goes into the bag is smaller. This causes the grass to hang up, choking the engine and blade. This is a peticular problem, if the grass is even slightly damp. The other thing I found was the height adjustment levers, are very weak metal, that bends too easily. The rubber protectors do not stay in place. These are the "drawbacks".

On the plus side:

Love the key ignition! Holds charge well. Just like starting a car! Good strong transmission and engine..Excellent on gas "milage" Not real sure you would call it that..but One tank of gas will mow a 70x120 lot. My prior mower would only mow front or back but not both. Many improvements over the old model, but then, I use one almost commercially..

If you depend on quality Craftsman is the brand to go with. I am in hopes the metals will get better.
...
