Sledge says "Craftsman 12 in. drill press is feature loaded" about Craftsman 12 in. Drill Press

I was looking for a benchtop drill press that had plenty of power and had a smooth feed rate, and according to other's reviews the 21914 was one of the best in it's class. I was not thrilled that it had a digital depth gauge, I figured I would just ignore it use the press as normal. After I played with the digital depth gauge I realized that it was an awesome and feature. Simply lower the bit to the top of your stock and zero it, then remove the stock and lower the bit to the desired depth, lock the spindle and do repeated hole at your specified depth. I was not impressed with the work light. This model has the smaller LED light it's beam doeas not cover a wide area. The laser guide works fine but I think it would be easy to knock off center. Overall I am very satisfied with the power, smooth feed and easily adjustable speed but the depth gauge has become favorite feature.
...

i needed a bench grinder that would stand up to my daily use. after a lot of reserch, i went with this bench grinder. wow this thing is powerful! it does vibrate a little, but thats ok with me, just make sure you bolt it down tight. this thing is full of features too, i love that it has a lock on it that if pulled out, the grinder won't turn on. the light is more handy than i thought it would be. if you need a bench grinder that will stand up to anything, and want one that is at a good price, get this one!
...

I bought this 12 inch Craftsman Drill Press amonth ago, and it has already impressed me. Lots of power, easy to use, and quiet opperation. The one problem I am having is that the chuck shaft keeps falling out. You are supposed to drive it in with a wooden mallet, and it's suppose to stay. I ended up driving it in with an eight pound sledge hammer, and it still comes loose once in awhile. Next time I think I will scar the surface of the shaft before re-installing it. Any way, I'll give this drill press 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
...

I have a small garage and recently sold a Craftsman table saw to make more room. I still needed a table saw but wanted something that didn't take a lot of room. I started looking a portables because they folded up and could be stored out of the way. I read numerous reviews on this model and decided to buy it. It is great. When I need to cut some wood for a project, I take out the saw. I can be moved very easily. It sets up very quick and makes quick work of my projects. So far I haven't found anything I didn't like about the saw. I also haven't had a chance to use the router table, but that should be coming soon. I have a need to make some doors.
...

Purchased the craftsman compucarve from sears in april 2009. Carved several small projects and came out just fine and was well pleased. Purchased the umbrella stand from carvewright and made one. Total of 20 hours carving time. Started on second stand and was 80% finished when it gave the z axis 380 error. Contact with LHR and they walked me through and it had a bad motor. They sent the new motor and I installed it on the machine. Started a new carve on the stand and was half way thru when it lost all power. LHR advised that it must be the power supply. I decided it was time to return to sears and they gave me my money back with no hassel. This was on Sept. 16, 2009. I still like the machine and am thinking about buying another at a cheaper price that what I paid for the last one. Anyone that has a machine and would like to sell please advise.
...

tellittojake says "good value and a nice saw" about Craftsman 7-1/4 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I often make furniture for my home and family. I have a larger miter saw but it is too big and heavy to easily move around and I have a small shop space to deal with. I had an old 8-1/4 Delta miter saw that died after 20 years of faithful service that I would often pull out to use, instead of the 12 incher. I missed that little guy and saw the Craftsman 7-1/4 sliding miter on sale for 99.00. It is usually about 169.00. The small blade is fine for one inch material that I usually use and it will cut 2 inch masterial as will a circular saws blade. It tracks very smoothly, and holds its settings well. The small blade is relatively stiff due to its smaller diameter and cheap to replace. It came well packed and all settings were dead on out of the box. I find myself using this saw more and more, due to its decent cutting action and light weight and small size. It is much quieter than the larger saw as well, so nice to use when family is around and I am in the shop working. The first three numbers...
...

AdamO says "Great tool sharpener" about Craftsman 2 x 42 in. Belt/6 in. Disc Sander

I use my Craftsman sander for restoring old woodworking tools and creating the occasional custom tool.

The belt does a great job of quickly and efficiently leveling mushroomed chisel sockets and reshaping bevel angles on cutting edges, without burning the tool's cutting edge.

Using a belt, or the disk, I can shape flat or convex ground edges for doing tough cutting jobs.

The bench grinders are limited to hollow-ground edges.

Belt change is quick and easy.

This tool is quite a bit more powerful than another belt sander, I once owned (stolen).
...

Aristophon says "I'm delighted with this jewel." about Craftsman 12 in. Drill Press

I researched many bench top drill presses in the price range of the Sears Craftsman 12" drill press. The Craftsman won out over other brands based on features, fit and finish. I do some woodworking and a limited amount of hobby gunsmithing. Since I have limited space, a bench top model was desired. I have had this drill press for about one year and enjoy using it. It is accurate (no runout), quiet and vibration free.

Several items on the 12" model don't come standard with other brands. The digital depth display and the flexible led light are nice to have items -- the laser surprised me by being a useful device I'm now glad to have. Oh yeah, don't forget the fence that also comes with the drill press.

The second place choice for purchase was the Craftsman 15" floor model because of its 12 speeds (a low speed is useful for drilling metal). But the lowest speed of the 12" drill press is still useable for drilling into metal and the price was, of course, lower than the 15" model.
