Bought the first one and it smelled burned right out of the box. Returned it and tried another one. No amount of adjustment would make the belt track in the center of the rollers. Returned it and just got my money back. Will try one from **************. Theirs has more than double the power at half the price. If I am forced to buy junk from China I might as well save a little money.
...

SearsBuff says "Easy to use and good size" about Craftsman 1/4 hp 120-volt 2.6 amp Portable Oscillating Spindle Sander (21500)

Great oscillating spindle sander unit to have and very usefull in the workshop. Spindles are your basic hard rubber for that sturdy sanding and easy interchangeable sleeve process. This sander could have used some sound absorbtion material to reduce that bit of noise but you can easily add this to the hollow shell if you need to. The large table platform is just great and allows you a full work area to manage your material. Although the monster gray shell feels 'plastic-y' it is quite sturdy and does a great job all around. This spindle sander does stand tall as well so some to most stands will make it sit very high to use comfortably so keep that in mind. You will also need some very long screws or bolts to fasten this unit on a workbench and recommend hand tightening wingnuts as using a regular nut with a socket or wrench may overtighten and risk cracking shell (6" to 7" bolts is what I used). Exhaust port is very handy as well and does a good job.
...

The sander was all assembled except for the miter table and sticking on the sand paper to the 9" disk. I had it up a running in 15 minutes. The first thing I noticed, an am very happy with, is that it is very quiet compared to my 3" electric belt sander. I can work with the Powertec without ear protection and have a normal conversation while it's running. I was disappointed in the weak internal dust collection system. The dust collector bag doesn't inflate more than 45%, it flops down and folds so that the neck of the bag is blocking any dust that might want to enter the bag. I have a shop cyclone dust collector and have built an external dust hood to collect the dust so I'm not worried about the Powertec internal system being weak. Without some sort of dust collection your shop would be filled with dust as belt sanders put out a lot of dust. I'm pleased with the sanding abilities of both the 6" belt and the 9" disk. They can take as mush pressure as I need to apply for my projects. I couldn't...
...

This sander is probably the most used tool in my workshop. More than enough power for the average sanding job. Very user friendly. My only small complaint is that it takes some patients to get the table perfectly square to the belt. You have to really hold the table in place when tightening it down or else it will move slightly off square.
...

I used this machine for about 20 minutes before the motor burned out. I used a smaller sander for years and was excited to see this overweight powertool but was disappointed when I could only use it for 20 minutes. I was extreemely pleased with the work I was able to do before that happened. I returned the unit and went back to my smaller unit that did not fail me. I don't live close to a Sears so when the unit failed I had to travel an 3 hours to the Store and home to go through the hastel of returning a unit that they did not have a replacement for. I hope they could work to change my mind of Craftsman starting to become crap!! I have multiple Craftsman tools and they have always stood for quality but this one tool may change my mind of ever buying Craftsman again.
...

This is a big, very heavy unit with large abount of plastic on it and a cheap power switch. That aside, I was still pretty impressed with it when I pulled it out of the box. The problem really came when I set the table up and slid the miter guage into its' slot. The bar that the gauge rides on is 1/8'' higher then the table. That means anything you put on the table and guide with the miter guage won't be at a 90 degree angle to the sand paper because it will be setting on the guide bar. The uneven surface makes it impossible to square up edges or do any precision work. This seems like a big flaw for something in this price range and something that a compitant manufacturer should have caught. Sure, you could grind the surface of the bar down, but for $270 I shouldn't have to modify the tool to make it work properly. Craftsman used to mean quality, but now, whoever they have makeing thier tools is cutting corners and manufacturing junk. Stay away from Craftsman powertools and...
...

HouseKustoms says "I take it for granted like electricity. It is sooo handy to have" about Sand-Flee SF-1800 18" Portable Drum Sander

I really like this tool and have since I first got it. It set up easily and quickly. Unique among woodshop tools, it is extremely quiet. The Sand-Flee lets me keep my flat surfaces flat. I'm able to sand the front or back of a guitar body in 1 pass. When I glue up bookmatched guitar tops, it is easy to have flawless glue joints. I often resaw stock and again it makes cleaning up quick and easy. I end up with no waste. No tear-out. My shop is cramped and the jointer is often against a wall so I often use the Sand-Flee with its fence as a clean-up jointer. It works well to clean-up edges that have been previously jointed square. Like other tools, there are things it does real well and there are things it doesn't do well. The things it does great are exactly the things I expect it to shine at. The things it doesn't do well are tasks for another tool, that's all. Honestly, I doubt it will ever break because it is built so sturdy. If mine does ever die, it will be replaced immediately. Nuff...
...

Online and in the Catalog it really doesn't appear to be such an oversized item, but it's quite large and well worth it's table size. Once you turn it on it's also very quiet for a woodworking device and it does the job to an extent. If your looking to cut on the outside of your line and final shape it with the 21500 your going to need to go get you some new sanding sleeves with a rougher grit.(Find Included) The ocillating amount is just enough while the speed/rotation is also just enough too. If your looking for a 1/4" spindle size your not finding on this unit as other high end similar sanders offer, but you can make due. Finding a stand for this particular sander is challenging but your local parts store might have something to make one up or just use a universal stand and mount some 3/4" ply on it and done! All in all I would recommend the 21500 over the new Ridgid, but the Ridgid does have the Lifetime Warranty Option. Wait it out for a $ALE price though. 4 - Stars just because it...
...

It is heavy, but made pretty well. I am happy overall, but would have liked to have two tables with mitre gauges - one for the disk sander and one for the belt sander. It is a pain to switch them - only because they need to be realigned (squared) when moving the table from one sander to the other. The price is much better than other 6x48/9" sanding stations on the market, though!
...
