gulicious says "the best finance portal there is at the moment" about finance.google.com

Finance sites are always cluttered and ugly or have narrow pages. I have not found any of them with the qualities that google has integrated. Its a young new site, unlike the decades old yahoo finance, but its already beat them to the punch. This site utilizes ajax code which makes it super snappy. You can click and move and update things on graphs in a moment. There are no wait times, and even the graphs update in real time, on the screen. The data is great, the quality of the layout is great, and I used this site for all of my needs when it comes to investing.
...

gulicious says "This is the best aggregated news source for netizens" about digg.com

Okay this is a different concept for lots of us but the newer form of news is called aggregate. Meaning this is a lot of various news sources and bits from anywhere, placed on this site called digg.com which filters out news based on responses from visitors. This is exactly like mysears.com with trending topics. If a topic is popular, it gets sent to the top. In digg.com there are plenty of categories from world news to videogames and whatever you like. It allows users to vote up and down on ideas, leave comments and I think this is the best of all the news source feeders I have found so far.
...

gulicious says "Everybody knows facebook. Its where you post yourself" about Facebook

Facebook was started in the early 2000's and became mainstream around 2005 by guys who imagined everyone in the world would have a profile. As the goal reaches parity, we have the current iteration of facebook. I do not like this site because it is a confusing mess and does not help me out where I need it most. I like contacts, contact information, and real things about people stored for me to use when I need it. Facebook is more like your literal college facebook with everyones personal life attached. I do not care for photos and the news updates and so this is not my kind of site to spend time with. I much rather enjoy the smaller sites like MySears.com with a focus toward a goal or gives users considerable influence on the future of something like Sears.

gulicious says "a great place to learn everything about cellphones today" about engadgetmobile.com

If you ever find yourself in a cell phone store and have no idea what exactly separates two models of phones, just ask the person next to you. But, if you would rather be savvy and walk into the store knowing exactly what you want, go to this website. It is the ultra geeks cell phone paradise. You will be bombarded with information about every cell phone brand, iteration and ability. It may be much for a casual user, but this covers international phones, services, rumors, and how to get some things cheaper. I always use this website when I am thinking of getting a new phone. Invaluable resource.
...

gulicious says "the best blackberry for the price and function" about Blackberry - RIM Curve 8320 Cell Phone

I have used the blackberry Pearl as a full keyboard phone and have enjoyed it thus far. It is bulkier than what we have become used to in the last several years with razor thin phones and flip style sets. I anyone who has used a blackberry before, will find this similar, and if not better. The trackball is a way better feel to use in scrolling and moving around the screen and the screen size is adequate. Be warned that this phone has nothing of the sort when it comes to internet browsing. Your friends will all have fancier phones with greater graphics and capabilities. But a blackberry is cheaper and if thats what you need... this is your phone.
...

gulicious says "they have improved in running sneakers" about Nike sneakers

I used to run in New Balance shoes and now do not find them appealing or priced competitively to Nike which has improved their line. I also would like to see Nike Shoes selling in Sears but for now, I have to refer to the shoes in general. I wear Air Pegasus and find them to be the best overall shoe since the upgrade in 2005. They are priced adequately and come in several colors and styles for men and women. I tend to support good brands and now that I have been running in Nike shoes, I would stick to that because it works and I have not been let down.
...

gulicious says "small enough to carry with you on runs" about Apple - iPod Nano 3rd Generation Media Player

I run every day and always wanted an iPod to be on me, except they were the older bulky ones, or the fragile thin plastic type. In the newer nano, with a metal casing on front and back, I don't feel like this will get damaged, or take on moisture if its in my pocket. I also do like the size being very thin and wider so it can fit on an arm band. I don't use any other iPod to run with and have been satisfied with the current model. One thing I found poorly designed is the wheel that you use to scroll through menus. It is a smaller iPod but the wheels tiny radius is difficult to get used to.
...

gulicious says "the best dry erase markers available" about EXPO Dry Erase Markers, Chisel Tip, Black, 4/Set

I recently got into the dry erase boards to write down my notes and ideas - and purchased a huge board. The markers it came with were not so great so I picked up the Expo chisel tipped ones and they are very nice. They do not leave residual marks that easily unless you do not erase within a few days and I think they are sized well, and offer plenty of colors. I've used about 5 different brands of markers for dry erase boards and never liked them for their lack of bold solid marks.

Expo markers really have good deposit levels making the things you write clear, and consistent. Too many other markers leave a fading color as you write, or just do not leave any intense material on the board, while expo can do that. I have not run out of any marker yet, and can be certain that these have lasted at least five months of average use and I would not buy any others. They may cost a little more but if you use dry erase markers, you'll know which ones have higher quality.
...

gulicious says "great device for those with wi-fi everywhere" about Apple - iPod Touch

The iPod Touch is able to do most of the things the iPhone can do but lacks the voice capabilities - although there is a lack of calling people, it is a smaller device and can receive wi-fi signals and runs a lot faster.

If you are someone with wi-fi in your home, office, and find a signal in most local places, the iPod Touch can end up saving you money in the long run since the device is a one time fee and there is no monthly payments necessary to take advantage of the applications. I had an iPod Touch and used it on the wi-fi in my home and it was incredibly fast and can replace your current iPod, and it does far more. Sadly this will not help if you are carrying a phone and don't like two devices in your pockets, so chose wisely.
...

gulicious says "The new toy shops at Sears are too small" about Sears Toy Shops

I visited the grand opening of the Sears Toy Shops in New Jersey and was rather disappointed in the lower quality appearance of the section. I do not have anything bad to suggest about the toys themselves which are all high quality and look to be chosen with care. I even liked the selection but as an older person who still thinks toys can be cool, this did not leave anything desirable.

There were a lot of kids, and this catered to the 3-6 year old group which is okay but I think if there are going to be LEGO toys at Sears, they should at least stock a range and not just a few for toddlers.

The Sears Toy Shops have a good concept but poorly executed. It is a tiny corner of the store with a few hundred toys which I can honestly find just about anywhere else in retail. Nothing drew me there except the fact that I wanted to check it out - and was let down by the really sad small size of it. Nobody is going to travel all the way to the back of a Sears store to buy some toys like this when...
...

gulicious says "It is a typical Burlington, but inside a mall. I was just bored" about Burlington Coat Factor - West Nyack, NY

There isn't anything special or redeeming about the company stores. I feel like it tries to be TJMaxx and Marshalls when they have a huge bargain bin style rack of clothing. But once in the back, the home stuff is quite moderate, on Bed Bath & Beyond Level. Additionally they tend to try to sell everything kitschy and home-ish at once. It is trying to be Pier 1 imports, it is trying to sell coats, and ultimately I think it is the hybrid nature of BCF that causes me to see the similarity of Sears itself. Sears has power tools, appliances, and big ticket items for home use - but also has clothing and sort of a bargain hunting experience. I just think BCF has its own niche and has gone into a bit of everything - it feels like Odd Lot/Big Lots but slightly higher end. Don't know anyone who shops there but I should give it another run through to see if its busy....

gulicious says "Lands' End is a winner, just well hidden" about Land's End

The most well kept, hidden secret in clothing is perhaps Lands' End. It was and is still mostly a catalogue and online retail brand but the move into Sears can be good, provided Sears supports the brand across the chain with care.

My biggest reccomendation is to slowly phase out other clothing at Sears - especially the ones that compete with Lands' End in the first place. Basically that means get rid of oxfords, buttondowns, khakis, sundresses and other category killers that are not doing Sears or lands' End any favors.

And Lands' End is well designed, and competes with J. Crew. If Lands' End can maintain that steady image, and improve some of the marketing - I see this as a gem in the rough. Always a steady buyer of Polo and JCrew, and Jos. A banks, I now found Lands' End but the hard way (by reading about it in my research of Sears Holdings)
...
