I own a sony mini dv camcorder. I had to buy one more because my wife needed one too. This one is so small and smaller than some digital cameras. you can just put it in your pocket and bring it around wherever you go. Sound quality and picture quality is very good and it is very easy to use. I see a comment below that there is no rewind, play, forward etc.. buttons, but actually those function is displayed on the screen, which is very unique. so you have to push the knob to display that function on the screen. I wouldn't say it is as good as sony which I payed about three times more, but it is the exceptional for the price! and it is made in Japan, which is rare to find these days on smaller electronics....

This camera is a good buy for its price. There are all the normal controls (more manual controls than Sony), and there is a mic input. It you find it on sale, it becomes a great deal, and I bought it because it is a great deal. It is very easy to use because, most of the time, you can keep the camera on "easy" setting and just worry about pressing the start/stop record button. In play mode, you can fast forward, stop, rewind, etc. The quality of the widescreen mode is decent for the price because, unlike in the previous generation of camcorders, a wider sensor is used to collect more video (rather than software that crops and stretches). The video quality seems entry level, and, if you want better quality under $400, pay $100 more and get the Elura 100. If you want great video quality, save a few thousand and buy a professional camcorder. If you want still pictures, a sub-$100 digital still camera will produce much, much better results. (This camera doesn't include stills. From everything......
