I realize that this is by far not the greatest lens, but for the price it is to me, a newcomer to the Digital SLR world, this lens great, as far as price in concerned. I would rather get real acquainted with my camera a lot more, before I go out and purchase an expensive lens. That way later I would know what I want in a better lens, and I will truly see the difference, between the two. It really compliments the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my XSi. I am sure that I would probably need more reach, but that would have to come later....

When looking to add a lens to the regular kit lens, it doesn't get any better than this lens, for this price. It is not going to rival the higher end L class lenses, but is also not going to be over [$]as well. For this price, you get a sturdy, fairly sharp lense, that can perform excellently in good light. You do really have to look deep at pictures to tell the difference between this and the[$]more expensive 70-300mm IS lens. This lens is the perfect companion to the 18-55 kit and will give you great shots, time and time again. Buy it, and a good size flash unit for the same price as just the 70-300mm lens. Use it and you will be happy....
