I say that because it worked for the immediate task I had at hand:

I had a oil pan plug (bolt) that had been mangled by me using the wrong socket size on a few occasions before using the correct one. I used the #5 remover (1/2" and 13mm) to crack the bolt loose. At first I got the God-awful sound of what sounded like me stripping it again. I then repositioned the remover to grab the bolt again, then gave it another try. This time, it came loose.

Pro's: It worked for my particular need. Your mileage may vary. For stubborn bolts, (rusted, corroded) as others have said, you may need to "pre-treat" the offending hardware with a spray designed to aid in breaking these problem bolts loose.

Con's: LIke I said in my review title, it would have been better if this wasn't a return. Someone used this once and then returned it. Sears put it back on the shelf. I ordered online and picked it up in-store. Didn't realize it was a return until I got home.

Tips: Try to find any remaining flat sides of the...
...

Went to change tires and rims on my ATV and the grade 2 nuts rounded off from 7 of the 16 nuts. Could not move forward without this tool assisting. The nuts were not rusted in, just rounded off. With the use of this tool, they came off, all of them, within 5 minutes. I put better quality grade 8 lug nuts on and away I went!Great tool, worth the $30 investment.
...

This set worked awesome the first time I had to replace the hub assembly on my truck, it got the job done with out any problem. But then a few months latter I had to do the oposite side hub assembly same truck, this time the set did not do so well. It just made a bigger mess, and shaved the steel off rounding the bolt heads even more. Not to mention the teeth on the socket started rounding out as well. I ended up having to saw zaw the bolt heads off and removing the hub assembly to open up access to the bolts and welding some 1/2" sockets to each of the the bolts (A 1/2" socket goes over the threads perfectly) and got them off that way. So this set got the job half way done.
...

Buy this. It was only $15 for one half of the set...$15 is worth it whether it works for your specific application or not; you will eventually find a use for it. A water pump bolt rounded off. This saved me all the trouble of trying to drill and use extractors on the block in a cramped space...Try these first. Much safer than trying to drill stuff.

I made a special trip to Sears to get this kit. I could not remove one of two hardened bolts on my truck starter. The ends of this bolt had previously been rounded off by somebody else. Even though I could get the socket on and even hammer it in place when I tried to remove the bolt it just stripped the socket. They may work on softer bolts but not hardened automotive bolts. Wasted trip and money.

I also have the 14 pc standard socket wrench version the Crafsman bolt nut remover. In some situtations the socket design has a tendency to roll to the side and off of the bolt/nut. However, with this low profile design the leverange is centered on the bolt/nut rather than on top of it and roll-off is less likely. In addition, there is an obvious advantage in tight spots where a socket and ratchet just won't fit. I wouldn't be without both sets. The Crafstman sets are also a great value. I shopped around and found other bolt/nut remover sets from manufacturers of comparable quality to Craftsman. When weighing the price of sets and numbers pieces to the sets I felt that best value was with the Craftsman set.
...

I bought this set a couple of years ago with a christmas gift card that I had received. Well I never used it until I did the timing belt on my Wife's VW Jetta TDI. If you're not aware, VW uses tons of allen keyed bolts to hold things together. Once they get some corrosion in them, or muck or whatever, they are nearly impossible to get out. If the installer overtorqued them or whatever. Allen head bolts are evil. I had to use this on 2 of the bolts on the valve cover. And 3 out of 4 bolts on the harmonic/vibration dampener. I am very thankful that I had bought this, and decided to give it a try. All I had to do was take a small mallet and tap the bolt out onto the head of the bolt (outer edge is completely round on allen head bolts). Put my craftsman ratchet on it and start backing it out. The only other alternative was to use a cold chisel and cut the heads off, then use vice grips to back the studs out. There was not enough room to get vice grips onto the head of the bolt and have leverage...
...

It just stripped the head even more. They dont bite as well as i expected them too, even after beating all the way down. I ended up having to just cut the head off bolt and use a small pipe wrench to remove. However, this bolt was really rusted....

Used this set to remove a broken off exhaust stud that was sticking out about half an inch from the manifold. It gripped so well that it broke off again flush with the surface, so I had to remove the manifold anyway to drill and tap it. Amazing grip even on hard 10mm exhaust stud. It's like an external easy-out - the harder you twist it the harder it grips, but unlike most bolt extractors it's very hard to break one...

I bought a used Kia Sorento and I noticed the fan belts needed to be changed. Unfortunately, the previous owner stripped a nut that goes on one of the fan belt pulleys. This nut was almost completely rounded. I tried using the gator grip socket, but that didn't work. My last hope was the Craftsman bolt/nut remover I picked up at Sears. I put the tightest fitting socket on the stripped nut and gave it a counterclock wise turn and it worked like magic! It turned the stripped nut on the very first try. I recommend this set.
...
