We have owned this compressor for 18 months. Worked just fine at first. Tried to use it today and although it makes a great deal of noise and sounds like it is trying hard to work, it actually does nothing more than just make noise. Very disappointing. We own quite a number of other Craftsman products and have been generally pretty happy with them. This has certainly not proven to be upto the standard that we had expected.
...

I ended up having to replace the battery after a year as I could not remember to keep it charged. It was not cheap to buy a new battery especially with shipping (purchased from a battery specialty store on the internet). Then within a month of replacing the battery, the three way switch broke and fried the circuit board.

It was somewhat slow to fill up tires. It is pretty heavy with the battery and compressor....

I've had this thing for about 7 or 8 years now, I use it for inflating tires, balls, etc. works ok for a relatively inexpensive product. Holds a charge for a long, long time. Takes awhile to pump up auto and other large tires. My only major gripe is that the rubber inside the locking nozzle has worn out and you have sit there and hold it on the tire valve or it will slip off, and it does not appear to be easy to replace the hose/nozzle as it has press fittings at both the nozzle and machine end
...

This portable compressor is great for the garage for basic inflating. It beats having a hand pump, or a portable compressor that you have to plug into a lighter or other outlet. It's light weight, and easy to carry. My gripe--and only gripe? I've had it two years approximately--and now it's blowing fuses. I can't find the problem and Sears does not repair equipment like this--so it's now a useless garage paperweight. I thought Craftsman made better products, and that Sears would at least offer repairs.
...

I'm ready to buy a third one. New one looks identical, so I'm assuming it will last as long as the first two. The first one I bought in the mid 1990's lasted until December of 2002, at least seven years, before failing due to a burnt out compressor motor. I used it on a regular basis to pump up the tires on my old pickup. I took it on trips everywhere and helped a lot of people out of jams. I purchased the second one on December 26, 2002. This one also had a lot of use and finally burnt out in February of 2010. After this failure, I finally read the warning printed on the bottom of the unit, stating that the unit should be stopped after 5 minutes to prevent it from overheating. I can't count the number of times I ran it beyond 5 minutes.

Replacing the battery has never been a concern. I'm amazed at how infrequently I had to charge it. I guess I might complain about the battery, if I wanted to take one out of the second pump, which I still have, and save it as a spare for the next one.
...

This is really a nice item to have on hand, even for us single females! Have had tires with slow leaks, and this helped me get to a place to get the tire fixed. It helps me keep my tires properly inflated, to help gas mileage, and to save wear on the tires. BTW, it has ALSO helped me out recently when some jokester left the air out of one of my tires one night! I keep it charged up, ready to use. It is an item you won't be sorry you buy/own. Have had mine at least 4-5 years now, and still going strong. I also like I can check/fill tires in my drive, instead of at gas stations, where you have to PAY for their air. To me, is a must-have....

This will be my 6th Craftsman rechargeable compressor/inflator one was left behind on vacation, one got seriously dropped and it still worked, but only to about 30 pounds, one was stolen from my garage. My last two inflators were ldentical to this model which have lasted nearly 10 years. The key is not to follow charging instructions. Once the battery is charged unplug the unit. Do NOT use them more than 10-12 minutes continuously without letting them cool down. DO NOT use as a cell phone charger too often regularly or battery life will suffer. I have really come to rely on these units as they are very dependable. I inflate my wheelchair tires regularly to 100PSI and higher for my racing chair tires. The gauge is fairly accurate. and at a race we filled dozens of tires on a full charge w/o any loss of energy. I'm buying my third one in 15 years. The compressor is still good, but to replace battery the unit must be dismantled. I'll take the old one apart after I get my...
...

The Craftsman 12 volt Air Compressor/Inflator, Rechargeable/Cordless, is a must have if you own anything with tires. This unit is light weight, portable, and powerful. This inflator can be run off of a rechargeable battery, household electrical socket, or a vehicle power outlet (12V). It quiet for an aircompressor/inflator. It does not jump all around all over the floor when in use. The nice features include storage for your hose, which is a great length at two feet, storage for the two power supplies, and storage three nozzle adapters which is included with the unit. Another nice feature includes a quick connect/disconnect for the high pressure air hose. There is a built in pressure gauge that is easy to read. If you are not ready for an actual air compressor then this unit is for you. Every home/vehicle owner should invest into a unit like this. This would be perfect for emergencies as it is portable, and does not take forever to inflate something either. Remember...
...

Craftsmen need tools to work when they are supposed to. Craftsmen take things apart when they don't to see why. Compressor worked OK until valve in compressor head fell apart and siezed unit. Took apart to fix but it turns out there are no replacement parts available so you throw out a $50 "emergency" tool for lack of a 10 cent replacement part. Won't be replacing with another Craftsman unit....

Has worked flawlessly for almost 2 years. Bought 2 more as presents; will buy another for my other car.
A valve adapter that needs to be applied carefully may be the cause of other users' complaints regarding pump/motor failure: attach it incorrectly and air won't reach the tire; only the hose inflates. This will fry a motor on the first try!
6-years of selling battery operated devices has proven to me that almost no one applies the initial charge properly. I followed the instructions to the letter and only need to charge mine every 6 MONTHS! I inflate tires in 4 cars, weekly....

As it turns out, this is absolutely the worse Craftsman product that I have EVER used.
I have used it twice and charged it up each time. The unit will not charge up. If you get this compressor you will have to charge it up all the time even if you do not use it .
I have never been as disatisfied and disapointed with any product, as I have been with this unit.
I'll get a real replacement. It won't be another of these though."...

I recently received this unit as a gift and have not really put it through its paces yet. However, it is noisy in compressor mode but I plan on using it only to keep car tires inflated as optimum measure for fuel economy and tire safety.
I have searched for years (off and on) for a reasonably priced domestic compressor that would operate from house or auto voltage with the flip of a switch all to no avail. My father-in law had one of that type back in the early 1970s. If Sears had one available, I would probably buy it with no qualms because I've had generally good luck with Sears/Craftsman products....
