I bought this snow thrower on-line because it wasn't available locally (it is not quite winter yet). I HIGHLY recommend that NO ONE buy large equipment items on-line and have it shipped to them. Mine arrived with broken and missing parts. UPS does not handle these items with any care or regard of the contents.

Go to the store and buy the item there. It will save you a ton of hassle, and about an hours worth of your time with having to deal with support in trying to resolve the situation.

I'll post another review after I use the snow thrower for the first time.
...

Bought two of these machines last year one as a gift one for myself. Could not clear 4 inches of snow, always jammed th shute the belt would slip & the auger would stall keep in mind 4" of snow. The other machine does the same thing of course we bought these early in the season so we were past our 30 days to return it. Had the machine checked out Sears said it was in normal operating condition. Talk to a sales rep who was actually honest & said they have had alot of complaints about this model same as i have reported. Bought all sorts of nostick spray & used alot of WD-40 to keep the chute lubricated more of a hassle then what it was worth since the auger still stalled.

I have always owned toro products and never had an issue i ended using my 15-20 yr old 2 cycle s-200 which is probably a 1.5hp motor to get me through the season since this machine was worthless. Needless to say i sold mine for less that half of what i paid for it and ended up buying a new Toro Lesson Learned! Unfortunatly...
...

This is the first snowblower I have ever used. Not knowing anything about them it was easy to figure out how to start it and to use it on my own, my husband is deployed. and most of all it got the job done. It's not overly heavy.I'm glad I bought this snowblower. I also think my husband will be just as happy with it when he comes home from deployment....

I used to have a Toro single stage. I wish I had bought another Toro. I assumed that all single stage machines would perform about the same. Never assume!
I bought the Craftsman single stage with the biggest engine, thinking I'd be chucking snow all the way to my neighbors yard. Was I wrong. This thing wouldn't clear 4 inches of snow, not heavy wet snow, just regular snow. Clogged so much that I gave up and got out my shovel. The handle is like a cheap broom. Broke the first day. I had to rig it up with hose clamps to keep it opperable. I will say the engine runs pretty well, although you can never get the choke just right, but it has always started. If you live someplace that gets 2-3 inches of snow twice a year, or want a dependable go-cart engine, then disregard my previous comments and buy all means, purchase one of these babies. I wouldn't buy another Craftsman snow thrower, but they do have some quality shovels, or maybe hire a plow guy! Just hoping to save someone money and frustration.......

I don't have a lot of experience to base this on. We had an electric snow thrower. It's been enough to handle most snowfalls here in N.E. Ohio. In January, I used it after we got hit with over a foot of snow. The snow just laughed at me and my little thrower. After some online research, I decided on this guy. The only one available within 25 miles was a floor model. That worried me a bit. But this thing is great. Even after additional ice, snow and a little bit of melting took place, this blower ate through everything that wasn't a solid block of ice. It takes a while to warm up and stay started, but once it's going, it's lovely. It powered through everything I aimed it at. I did have a lot of snow getting thrown back at me from underneath, but to be fair, my driveway was packed down ice at that point and not level at all. There's not been a snowfall heavy enough to use it again since the driveway thawed out, so I can't say if the throwback is better on a flat surface, though I assume it......

This is my first snow thrower and it has been a good experience. It starts first time every time with the hand-pull---I've not had to use the electric start. I used it the first time on our first 9" NE Ohio snow fall and it cleaned mostly down to the blacktop with no trouble and threw the wet snow probably15 feet. I had to "nudge" it a little to go up my incline but it cleaned my 80 ft drive in 35 minutes with no problems. I would buy another one....

I was skeptical of buying a single stage snow thrower but this one has exceeded my expectations. In Chicago we got hit with about 12-16 inches of snow over two days and this went right through it and handled most of the heavy snow without any trouble. I did have some issues with slush that clogged the nozzle but I would not let that stop me from buying this model again. It shoots 12 inches of fairly heavy snow about 15-20 feet depending on the wind....

I purchased the snowblower about a month ago and have been very happy with it so far. It has always started on the first or second pull and runs strong. The first time I used it was on about a foot of snow where the snow was coming up over top of the inlet and it was still throwing the snow about 20 feet with no problem. Its good if you just want to clear a few inches of snow or if you have a lot. This is an excellent machine for the price and I highly recommend it to others....

For a female purchaser, I found it not as easy as i expected to pull start from a cold start. I'm glad it has the electric start to help in that area. If i shut it off while using it and pull start it back it starts easily at that stage. The thrower shute does not turn very easily. I find i have to actually use two hands to turn it one on top and one towards the bottom. It doesnt swivel too well. I've heard of greasing it but have not tried that yet. I expected it to have been better being brand new. I have a extremely long driveway and it does a good job as long as the snow is dry. The slightest bit of wet and the chute gets clogged up. It does get all the way to the ground unlike others so that is also a positive feature. For the size and money overall it does a ok job considering the snow we get here in the midwest....

After using this snow thrower for the first time, I was impressed how easily it cut through the 4 inches of snow in front of my home. It did struggle with the pile the street plow left at the end of my driveway. When looking at the rubber augers after the first use, I noticed considerable wear.
When starting it for the 3rd time, the rope did not fully recoil. This was enough for me to take it back. I spend only $100 more (with a 10% off coupon) and bought the 2 stage 24inch Craftsman.
Overall, the 179cc single stage was a decent machine for light to medium snow falls, but I would spend the extra $$ and invest in a machine without the rubber augers and bigger clearing path....

This is my 4th snow blower that I have purchased since 1980 and by far the best. It is the first snow blower that can almost be pushed to do its job with one finger (although I use both hands). It weighs about 84 pounds, but it doesn't matter, you only have to lift it once, from the car to the garage floor.

It has an MTD engine 4-cycle engine (the gas and oil are separate) with a 2 yr. warranty. My last Craftsman snow blower had a 2-cycle engine (gas and oil mixed together) with a Tecumseh engine.

Likes: It even removes snow tire tracks from the driveway, my first snow blower to accomplish this feat. (You know how people put tire tracks in your driveway before you snow blow it?)

179cc engine (that equals about 6 HP) more power than ever needed. Some 2 stage snow blowers have this big of an engine. I put this baby to the test with a 24" drift- even though it only has a 10" intake, and it never even stalled...

This has a metal body- (My last one was plastic).

Gas and oil is now separate,......

I bought this unit about a week and a half ago. So far it has been a very good machine. Not only has it been bitter cold in NW Ohio, but the winds have caused the snow drifts to pile up in my driveway and walkways in addition to the snowfall. This unit has started via the pull cord each time. (the electric start is a bonus) It has also removed snow that has drifted up to the top of the chute with relative ease. I would recommend this model for the typical weather we have....
