I purchased this compressor in 2004 and I have had no problems with it whatsoever!! I have performed many tasks with compressor including finishing a 1400sq.ft. basement and completely redoing the suspension and brakes on my grand cherokee and it has worked flawlessly. it will do everything I ask of it without hesitation. Granted it is not a shop compressor, but it doesnt claim to be either. I hope it keeps going for years to come as Sears is no longer selling this particular unit....

Great 120volt compressor. Hold up great in a personal shop. The size is great, recover time is good. Of course depending on what you do. Most of mine is shop tools (not painting). Not to loud, but if you are running a shop u would want a 2 stage and not this. Make sure you pick out the right compressor for your needs is the name of the game.
...

I bought the craftsman 33 gal, 2 hp vertical compressor to put in my shop 3 years ago. I've followed the break-in procedures according to manual. I have approximately 4 hours on this unit. I was using it at my fathers house doing home repairs and it tripped a 15 amp breaker. I finished the job with 1.5 hp Chinese made compressor. Trying to trouble shoot the problem, I went to my sister's home a block away and plugged it in and it tripped another 15 amp breaker. I went home and plugged it in to a ground faulted 20amp outlet and tripped this breaker due to the compressor not turning over. The motor on this compressor has a start and run capacitor fixed on top of the motor. Due to the warranty expiration, my next option is to get a family member, who is a certified electrician, to get a read out on the amperage used to start and to keep this unit running at low pressure and high pressure and to check for capacitor faliers.

NOT A HAPPY CAMPER
...

I've had my unit for 6 months. It had worked as expected until recently. It trips the breaker everytime the motor attempts to start. From reading other reviews this is a COMMON problem. I have to go today to return it on the extended warranty that I purchased. When it comes back I'll be selling it & buying a more reliable compressor. Possibly from a different retailer depending on how I'm treated....

I've had the compressor about 1 1/2 years and have used it for air tools, automotive paint spraying and general shop use. It's worked as advertised and held up well but... Takes a long time to recharge. When using a HVLP spray gun, it's running constantly and lastly it's very loud. Consider ear protection when using this unit in your garage where you are working. The 1/2" air impact gun supplied doesn't have much torque and will struggle to remove most larger nuts/bolts. The units CFM won't keep up with a die grinder causing you to let it charge up every few min. This can't be good for the compressor. It did run trouble free on a 20a circuit up to the rated 150psi for the entire time I owned it. I'm replacing it due to the noise and long charge time. It's fine for smaller jobs but don't try to run air tools on it for any length of time, the unit will run constantly....

Been looking at this compressor for a number of years and finally pulled the trigger this weekend. It came with the ten piece pneumatic tool set, and got 10% off on top of that due to the on-line sale they were having. Around $308 total.
I brought it home and did the break-in as directed. It was a little noisy, but not too bad. (Almost as loud as a gas mower) It reached 150psi after awhile, but cut-off there as it should. The tools work great and the 33 gal tank allows me to use my rachet and impact driver at full bore for a good while before the compressor cycles. (90psi)
Overall rating I gave a 4 star due to the gigantic scuff in the side of the tank I noticed after I unpacked it from it's box. I figure that is a small price to pay for a decent compressor at this price. After reading some of these testimonials before making a descision to buy this, I feel darn lucky not to be having the breakers tripping, air leaks etc.. some folks are experiencing. I've always been pleased with Craftsman......

I bought this compressor 3 years ago as my Christmas gift. It is a very noisy compressor. The motor went bad this spring with less than 40 hours of run time and is $200 to replace. I was told by a sales clerk that they have had a history of problems with this compressor and I should have bought the extended warranty. It kept loosing air pressure and the fittings had to be wrapped with teflon tape again to seal it up.
I would not recommend this compressor. Spend a bit more money and purchase an Ingersol-Rand or Champion instead. I know I will this time around....

This air compressor is a good one for the price. If you are looking for a compressor that you use for basic things like filling tires or working on your car this is a good one for you but if you are going to use it in a auto shop don't go with it. It builds up slowly for the size of motor it has. My big problem with it is it wont keep up with my needle scaler, but it does keep up with my paint gun i use to paint cars with and it also works great with my sandblaster but any other air hogs like my needle scaler it does a poor job, but over all it has been a good compressor for me. One other thing i have to say about it is it trips my breaker the first time I turn it on but after that it is fine....

and have been very pleased with its performance..
The noise level is LOUD, it is louder than my impact gun and it builds air a little slow. Which is why I gave a 4 on performance..
All in all, I would recommend this compressor to anyone.
Vertical design is space saving and moves around easily.....

Works good and exactly like advertised. It would be best used in a large garage where it doesn't have to be moved due to its size. Just 2 real negatives - it is loud for a confined space and it requires either laying down or tipping the compressor on its back 9heavy) to drain the air when turning it off for awhile. Neither are easy for older or infirm users. Other than that, very easy and pleasant to use....

I have had my craftsman compressor for 2+ years and it has worked great. In the shop running air tools working on motorcycles and cars. Airing tires more than I care to count no problems. I have also ran air nailers and roofing nailers (2 at a time) with no problems. Yes it is a bit on the noisy side but works fine for country living.
Recently a problem that I have found is that the regulator is only for 125 psi. Mine has stripped the internal adjusting nut and it requires a new regulator. The regulator is not something that they sell parts for. I have replaced the regulator with one that is for 150 psi and have had no further problems.
Other than that it works great and I would recommend it to anyone....

I've had this less compressor less than a month and can't rate the durability. It is replacing a Craftsmen belt driven oil compressor I've had for 25 years that is still running on the original belt (I have changed the compressor oil). The belt has started slipping and the compressor is only good for inflating tires. I hope the new one will perform at least as well....
