Having an "easy-out" screw extractor like this Sears Screw-Out Damaged Screw Remover Set is by far the easiest method for removing damaged screws. They work pretty much every time and usually with very little effort. The best part about it, they aren’t that expensive and will save you loads of time messing with stripped screws in the future.

For anyone who is used to using those screw extractors where you thread them in and then have to back the screw out, this is a deffinate improvement. They don't always work every time you have to use them, but when they do work they work really well. I have no complaints about the product itself. They are strong, durable and functional. Every now and then you just come across a situation where you just can't get these to bite. I found these work best when you really muscles them in to get it started. The deeper you can dig it in right off the bat, the better it bites backing the screw out.

Today was my first opportunity to try this product. The end result was two screw heads cut off of the screw with the screw shank still embedded in the aircraft I was working on. The extractor didn't even have enough blade on it for a third attempt. It caused me to lose four hours of labor and have to change parts because of the stuck screw shanks. Thanks a lot Sears!!! Next time I'll stick to Hanson spline screw extractor.

I work on cubicle build up and this Damaged Screw Remover set is the must-have tool. Craftsman tools are my prefered ones over others. They are always the best of all to me.

These things work pretty good but if you're usung an electric drill you really have to be careful or you can end up in a more difficult position then when you started. The instructions are clear but even going slow it is hard to see when the bit is on the screw. I ended up with a countersunk screw head.

The bits are well made and are also AMERICAN made.

I snapped a couple of heads off bolts trying to muscle them into corroded threads on a hood for my car. Thought I would have to drill them out completely and rethread the nuts but this set allowed me to drill much smaller and just back them right out. Worked incredibly well!

I got the for screw that had a stripped out head. They work okay but having it turn very slow and taking a hammer to tap it into the screw makes it work much better. If you don't do that esp. on harder screw it will just ream out the head then it's back to drilling and extracting....

I bought this craftsman screw-out set to remove some damaged stripped screws on a dresser. I can tell you from my exspirence they work very very good. I loved how well they worked and with that I had more damaged screws to take out because I really am impressed with how well they work. Oh and the stripped screws I was removing were 3 inch screws. Love that they are in a case that way I cant loose them in my tool box.

I tried to remove a stripped out screw from the frame of a camper. I even used penetrating lube and let it sit for a while. Followed the instructions exaclty as stated using reverse and cordless drill set to low gear. It ended up just digging out the screw head and I had to eventually use the tried-and-true method of drilling out the screw the old fashioned way. Save your money and tried other products out there.

Another tool not to leave behind, it seems like a stripped screw is inevitable. This tool just makes life easier, its easy and it works.

I was lead to this from the bolt out set, that worked wonders for me and this addition makes any job that much easier should trouble come around.

The screw removers work well if you are patient and use slow drill speed. You need to apply a good amount of force to the drill in order to make sure that the removers can get a good bite and then you need to back out the screw slowly. Worst case scenario, I've used these to essentially drill out the entire screw-head, then removing the panel that was screwed down and using vice-grips to remove the screw stem remaining in the lower panel. All in all they get the job done one way or another and are stronger than standard drill bits for drilling out screw heads when necessary.

OK...I get that this set is not for 'stuck' screws but I would have to say that this item only works1 time out of 10 for 'non-stuck' screws. It is extremely hard to judge if it will work or not and if you 'spin' it on a screw with the first turn, forget it ever working! This item is maybe a good idea in concept and maybe will work for certain situations (of which I cannot figure out) but do not rely on this as your sole source of getting a stripped screw out. Also, this set is NOT a last resort...either use it immediately when you think a screw is going to strip or don't use it at all. Just my two and a half cents!

Okay for everyone complaining this doesn't work. look at how you were using it. These are designed to remove screws that have a damaged head but arent RUSTED in place. If the screw is in so tight you cant get it out without stripping the head you really think this is gonna work??? if the screw has a messed up head but isn't STUCK these work great. yes sometimes you might have to take a small hammer and set these into the screw head but thats life. also if you use these on REAL soft screws you WILL have to hammer it in otherwise it will work like a drill and just keep eating the head away. These work great on harder screws like solid stainless and stuff like that, but personally i prefer the deck screw remover kit. Though you have to be careful with it too as they will break if you try removing something thats rusted in place. Apparantly the insturction need to have the words SOME COMMON SENSE REQUIRED TO USE!!!!!! if the screw is so tight or rusted that you start stripping...

Used as directed, I followed the directions to a T. This tool only made my damaged screw head a LOT worse. I am very unhappy with the $20 I have spent on this! I see some reviewers here hammered it in first ... maybe I'll have to try that and see, but so far this tool really sucks. I'm disappointed in Craftsman in this case.

Tried to remove a frozen phillips screw holding down the rotor cap on a Plymouth. There was plenty of room to access the screw, but the Screw Remover just stripped the head away. Resorted to the good old drill bit.

I Used this on a stripped Phillip's head at work. I had to pound it twice with a hammer is the trick. I just used plain old elbow grease to remove the stubborn guy. Saved a $40k radar altimeter by using this kit.

Don't waste your money. This tool DOES NOT WORK! I've tried it several times and all it does is make an indentation in the screw head. I'll be throwing my set in the garbage as all it does is take up room in my tool chest. On second thought, I may give it as a white elephant gift during the Holidays. I would have given it a "0" star rating, but the system does not allow it. Complete waste of money....

You'd have better luck with a paperclip. Biggest waste of money I ever spent. Not only didn't this thing extract the screw, it didn't even bite into the screw enough to even feel any drag whatsoever during use. I even tried drilling a hole into the center of the screw, even though the directions didn't say that was necessary. No wonder, it didn't help....

I bought this set when I stripped the head of a screw that was holding a bike rack to the wall of my garage. That was 2 years ago, and the rack is still on the wall. I've tried it twice more since then, and it has never removed a damaged screw of any kind. Don't waste your money....
