I bought this on a "black friday" sale on 2010. I'm a professional airplane mechanic for the USAF and use a compressor at home for maintenance on my vehicles, boat, ATV and cleaning out the garage, air filters, etc. Out of the box everything seemed great. I followed the recommended break-in instructions (30 mins running with tank drain valve open) and then connected a hose and some different tools to it to test things out. It ran a blower, tire guage, air ratchet and air gun fine, though it takes about 8 minutes to build pressure from 0 to 150. With the tank at 150, running a blower with the hose pressure set at 90 the tank pressure will drop to 120 in about 15 seconds, and takes about 4 minutes to recover back up to 150 once you stop using the blower. If you continue to use the blower the pressure continues to drop and the compressor has a hard time keeping up. It does slightly better with the air ratchets and guns. Its super loud!! The compressor i had before this was...
...

Jus picked this unit up a few days ago,to replace a 24 year old CH, I was worried about the SCFM only at 5.1 as my old 20 gallon was 6.3 but so far it runs everything perfect. I like the dual outlet I have one hose run aroun dthe the other side of my shop and one right by the work bench It is also less noise than my old one , it fills fast and the draw down time it great I run my tools for much longer than the old one before it has to refill, I was again worried that due to the low HP this would be an issue but thus far it has done great.

Bought a reconditioned unit with one year warranty. First start revealed a constant pressure bleed off even when the compressor wasn't bieng used. After 12 hours of use the motor started smoking and the compressor shut down. Now it's fried and of course, the one year warranty is expired by three weeks. I have grown up with Craftsman and used them exclusively for my business when I was an auto mechanic but the last four purchases of tools have all went bad just after the warranty period or well before like the ratchets. Yes they can be fixed or replaced but in the past, I used ratchets for over 20 years with no problems. Maybe I have to look at one of the new big box hardware stores for tools.
...

This is a nice unit. I like it a lot. It does what I need it to do, which is small jobs. I just started working on classic cars and realized this compressor is to small for my small shop. I need the bigger compressor for the garage. I will keep this one for my wood shop in the backyard or in the house jobs. I bought it because of price and it's a craftsman. Word to the wise, spend the money and buy what you need or you will be spending double on both compressors....

This compressor is a great one for at home around the house jobs. I have been beating this thing to death with HPLV spray guns impact guns and grinders. I use this thing every weekend and have done no maintenance, it runs non stop and all that needs I ever have to do is drain the water. The compressor has gotten louder over time but i have not seen any difference in how it works. I would recommend it to any one who has limited space and a low budget but big projects.
...

Two years ago, my family gave me a new Craftsman air compressor. I had no idea that I would use it as much as I have. Of course I had to purchase a Craftsman air gun and several Craftsman accesaries.

I use my compressor for everything from airing tires to maintenance chores.

The other day, I was cutting my grass with my riding lawnmower and my tire suddenly went flat. My immediate first thought was that I would have to take my lawnmower to a service center to get the tire replaced. As I started walking toward my house, it dawned on me that I could replace it myself. I went to the local tire store, bought a new tire, came home and brought out my Craftsman automotive jack. I removed the tire with my Craftsman air gun and used my compressor to pump up my tire. My total down time was only one half hour.

Yesterday, .my daughter came to me with a problem that her car was leaking water into the inside of her car. After finding her airconditioner drain tube clogged, I used my compressor to...
...

This is an average product for the price.

The compressor works reliably for the price and it is not as noisy compared to other compressors. I've used it with an impact wrench, air gun, stucco hopper gun, and to inflate tires. It worked well on everything except the stucco hopper gun.

It is not really strong enough for the stucco hopper gun. I had to spray for a minute, then wait maybe 4 minutes for pressure to build and spray again.

The compressor takes too long to reach its maximum PSI. Also the air release valve failed to work correctly after about 20 uses. It does not shut off the air release completely.

In retrospect, I should have bought a bigger compressor.
...

Eagle11 says "Craftsman 33 gal.Air Compressor is quiet very fast and powerful" about Craftsman 33 gal. Air Compressor, 1.6 hp, Vertical Tank, 150 Max PSI

Craftsman 33 Gallon Air Compressor is the most powerful air compressor I have ever used. It has handled any job I have given it and maintains pressure very constant and fill time is really pretty quick. Using impact or air hammer or rachet has not slowed it down.

Easy to move because of the large wheels and seems more balanced during movement than other units.

Quiet is not the word for this compressor. You can actually carry on a conversation while it is running without yelling to be heard. This is a great feature when you are in an area with conversations having to take place.

Sears Craftsman quality and a waranty to back it up.

I use Craftsman products because they are priced fairly great quality and if they malfunction there are no questions asked if with-in the waranty period.

If you drain the water as recommended and do the daily monthly serviceing this unit will last you a very long time.

Cons - Not the first

Highly recommended.
...

I have owned this compressor for 6 months, and have used it 7 or 8 times I would say. I am not sure why people complain about not keeping up with lug nuts on a car, sounds like it is a bad airgun or the pressure is not turned up high enough. I was able to change out 3 summer tires with 3 snow tires, on and off, before the compressor had to refill. I have been renovating a room at my house and it has worked perfect with the framing nailer I purchase; it lasts quite a while without having to refill. I have not had any burning smells, and yes, it does take a while to fill up, but you get what you pay for. It is perfect for a DIY'er like my self, not for someone that will be continuously using it all day long. Make sure to follow the break in and drain it after everyuse so that it will last longer.
...

I bought this compressor brand new from sears a year a go. It takes a long time to pump up air and shut off. By the time it gets completely pumped up it always smelled like rubber was burning. Now less than year later it totally quit. This compressor would only be used roughly once a month. Found the small rubber belt that drives the piston was burnt off. Ordered a replacement belt which cost $32.00. Installed the new belt and figured out why the belt did not last long. The pulley on the motor is small and smooth. It generates excessive heat on the belt until it eventually destroys the belt. This is the biggest piece of **** I have ever bought from Sears. I though the first lawnmower purchase was bad but this one tops it.
...

Bought this compressor, used it twice over 3 weeks, and it's worthless!! Like others have stated, slow and long to fill, has no uumph to operate tools, couldn't keep up with removing only 4 lug nuts off my car. I think it was noisy. Anyone who knows anything about motors knows they need oil to run smoothly. I was foolish enough to read the overall ratings and believed what I read instead of going with my better judgement in buying an oil free motor. Don't put any oil in your car and see what happens!!! Same concept.

I bought this compressor to use as a second unit at my work shop. I was planning to restore an old Army Jeep and needed a second one to use for air tools and painting. I didn't want to spend a lot of $$$'s just to use part time. I already owned a Craftsman Professional compressor and was very happy with it.

When I used this compressor, I immediately discovered how quiet it was. It built up pressure very quickly and had plenty of air storage capacity for me to use tools for long periods with NO drawdown at all on the unit.

I would recommend this for anyone to use as a primary or secondary unit as a home or small workshop compressor. You cant beat the Craftsman name for quality and backing up their service. Don't hesitate, if you need a value compressor.....get this one, you won't be upset with your choice.
...

I have a vertical compressor I bought over 20 years ago and it is great! I bought this one for the 150 psi air pressure. Within 6 mos the piston cracked in two. Sears fixed it, however, Now after the warranty is over, it is broke again! What a piece of junk! How many times should I have to fix this thing that I feel I paid good money for? STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPRESSOR!
...

The 33gal upright I purchased 2 years ago was a replacement for a similar compressor bought at a large warehouse hardware store. The compressor did not come with six tools or any other shiny stuff, but it made up with performance. I do not treat my tools well, sometimes the pressure is maxed out and I just turn it off and let it set until I need it again. I expireinced one problem, the drain valve on the bottom started to get harder to open and close. I pulled the valve out of the bottom of the tank and found there was a metal burr that stopped the valve from seating and making the seal air tight. When I tried to shave the burr off, the stem broke! Needing the air, I took the whole valve to the hardware store and replaced it with a quarter turn brass valve that required a small amount of shaving to make it fit under the tank. once that was complete the compressor worked like a champ. 2 years now, and still being beat up like it belongs to the Navy, but still doing the job as advertised....
...

Previously I purchased a Dewalt D55146 with 200psi and used it for about one month. I don't use the compressor for any heavy duty work but just around the garage stuff but the motor keeps kicking in constantly to maintain the pressure. I love that unit for the high pressure and the low noise level but the capacity wasn't there. I returned that unit and bought this Craftsman 33 gal. compressor instead. Now I am much happier with this unit as it has enough pressure, low noise level and bigger capacity. Of course it is not as portable as the Dewalt but I don't plan on moving it around anywhere. I was really surprised with the noise level, it is equivalent to the Dewalt. Of course compare the time it takes to fill up the tank, the Dewalt 4.5 gal. takes 3 min. to fill and this Craftsman 33 gal. takes about 10 min. to fill. I am very happy with this purchase and I hope it will last just as long as the Campbell Hausfeld that I replaced. It is best for works around the house...
...
