This is a rebranded Kastar product. Kastar specializes in a number of areas, including rethreading tools, so the quality is definitely there, but with the added convenience of Sears/Craftsman service.

A rethreading kit is far preferrable to a standard tap and die kit, as you only want to chase the threads and clean them up, not cut entirely new ones.

This kit is nicely comprehensive for most tasks and carries a great price.

No, the warranty isn't "lifetime", but this is a wear-product. Sandpaper doesn't carry a lifetime warranty. Saw blades don't carry a lifetime warranty. Taps and dies that wear out aren't going to carry a lifetime warranty, either.
...

You would be better off just running your bolt through the thread you are trying to clean up. This is not even close to the sharpness or hardness of a standard tap. Waste of money. Had to go out and buy a real tap to clean up the threads. Would've bought the tap in the first place, but Sears did not have the size I needed.
...

Royalscrew says "Terrible, do not buy unless for light service" about Craftsman 40 pc. Tap and Die Set, Master Rethreader

The taps in this set are incredibly weak. I broke one in half trying to clean up the threads on my car frame where the trailer hitch mounts. The tap was not cross threaded and I was using a 6" ratchet so not a whole lot of torque. The tap kept getting stuck and so I was working it back and forth, cleaning half a turn at a time, when it broke. The threads are not sharp enough on these taps and they are made of weak metal so they will not cut new threads easily and tend to bind. Ended up buying a higher quality tap which cleaned up the threads in no time.

Unless you are planning on light usage, I would go with one of the other more expensive sets. The metal will be of higher strength and the taps will be much sharper and cut a cleaner thread in less time and aggravation.
...

While working on cars, I occasionally encounter stripped threads. This set has saved me many times! The quality is excellent. It is made in the USA. I've seen no wear on the pieces.

I do wish more sizes were included in the set. I have since found a larger Craftsman set that is not available in stores and must be ordered.
...

DrLarry says "BEWARE: NO CRAFTSMAN FOREVER WARRANTY " about Craftsman 40 pc. Tap and Die Set, Master Rethreader

I bought the 40 pc rethreading set, reassured by the label on the cover that says "Craftsman Forever Warranty". Note that the warranty link on this page makes no exceptions for this tool set. On the inside though is a card with "Dear Valued Customer" (scare quotes mine, but you know what is coming), some stuff about labels for the inside of the case, followed by "Craftsman individual taps and dies are cutting tools and have a limited life expectancy. Consequently, these items DO NOT carry the Craftsman lifetime warranty."

I can see the logic, but I also see the deception, both in the web page links and on the cover of the tool case itself. If they can put a card on the inside of the case, under the shrinkwrap, they could have (and should have) put the correction on the OUTSIDE of the case and on the webpage.

I am afraid I will have to return mine, as I am very unhappy about this situation. I can't comment on the tool, because I cannot use it before returning it.
...

I just bought this set and brought it home, only to find out that the die I needed right away -- 10mm x 1.25 -- is not included. I find this particularly annoying because this a very common size. One 10mm size in the set (10 x 1.5) and THREE 12 mm dies??? C'mon Sears, get a clue.

I'll be returning the set tomorrow, just because of this.
...

Unless your thread is really destroyed, these re-thread dies and taps will fix the threads.

Tip: Instead of drilling out and inserting a HeliCoil, just go to the next largest size SAE ot Metric thread and re-tap at that size.

For example, if you ruin a metric 6mm bolt, then just drill and re-tap for a 1/4" - 20 bolt...

I have had this product for many years. My hobby is servicing and rebuilding motorcycles for the street and the race track. So many times a bike comes to me that looks like the only tools the owner has is a hammer and a pair of pliers. I can't count how many times I have been able to rethread a cross threaded bolt hole saving the cost and time of inserting a helicoil. This set does not cut new threads, it fixes the old ones. The thread files are great for damaged bolts and axels that are to large for the rethreader tool.

This item is well worth the money and when used as directed is a great asset to any mechanics tool inventory....

The only reason I got this kit beside the others is because it had the thread and pitch that other kits didn't have. The item worked fast and accurate. But price for this kit was too much for such a small set. Also didn't have the other handle like the other kits....
