The best thing going for this mower is its powerful engine. I'm the sort who lets the grass get away from him and it's never managed to bog this machine down. Now the cons -- it just doesn't cut well. I've worked on the deck many times and it still seems to cut one side higher than the other. On the next pass, the grass being discharged collects in the high spot and it really looks bad. If I have the time I mow it again in the other direction. I am not pleased with this machine at all.
...

This is my second cutting season using the YS4500. My last mower also a craftsman finally died after 18 years of use on my 3/4 acre hilly property surrounded by very large oak trees. This mower, with its hydrostatic drive (I don't know how I ever lived without it) and tight turning radius makes mowing a joy and I get done a lot sooner too. Since driving this mower is just like driving a car with no levers needed to switch speeds or go into reverse, everyone in the family volunteers to mow now. Needless to say I'm very happy with this purchase....

I purchased this snow thrower to go with my Craftsman 24 HP, 42 deck lawn tractor. Installing the equipment is to say the least very challenging so if your not very mechanical you may want sears to install it. Once it's been installed it's easy to get on and off. I also picked up wheel weights and tire chains, as was a little concerned with the slope of my driveway. All my concerns disappeared after the first snow when I drove up the drive with no problem throwing wet snow as far as 50 feet away. I used the wheel weights and the rear weight tray that came with the snow thrower but have not needed the tire chains. This is the first year I can remember looking forward to removing the snow. I recommend this product to anyone that wants to enjoy snow blowing...

I wanted the 24 hp 42 in but had a hard time getting it. So when i bought this one i was a little disappointed, but when I used it i was amazed at the power. Holy cats!! This machine cut threw 3 ft tall brush with no trouble at all. I couldn't believe it. I finished a major job and was ready for the next. Now for the complaints, the clutch lets out to hard and the drive belt makes a squeaking noise at mid RPMs but i figure once the clutch is worked in and a new belt is used what a machine we will have. Here in the hot climates i always use 20-50 Castro Oil, i recommend that to everyone....

The mower was delivered this morning. I haven't cut my grass for about 2 months due to drought, but the weeds grew and there was plenty of leaves to chop.
This is my fourth lawn tractor in 20 years. My first Craftsman had deck rot (rust). The rest of the tractor was fine, engine, etc. This turned me off to Craftsman 10 years ago. The MTD I have been using is definitely wearing out, so I thought I would try Craftsman again.
Got a great end of season deal, and was surprised to get an additional $250 off by ordering on line. I guess that was the sales commission I didn't have to pay.
So far my wife and I are quite pleased after about 3 hours of cutting. Next April it will get a complete workout and I will up date the review.
4 stars instead of 5 because there is no hour meter. The manual refers to it to determine when to change oil....

This tractor is a vast improvement over earlier models. fast, powerful, smooth and handles well. Great turning radius also. Crusie is also a nice feature. One caution. if you have to go across hills, the safety is a bit of a challenge. The tractor will shut off when you lean too far to one side. You may want to uninstall the spring that controls the safety.
Overall, for the money, you won't buy a better tractor....

This Tractor does a great job . The first time out I scalped the lawn . So I adjusted the deck wheels and now it cuts very even .
I chose this tractor because it has 4 Deck wheels , Large comfy seat , Tight turning radius and Auto transmission . I also opted for the mulching kit which works great .
I am so glad I spent a few extra bucks for these options .
Never thought cutting the grass could be so much fun . I've only cut my yard about 8 times and have had no problems mechanically .
I might add that the staff at my local Sears Hardware Store were very helpful with knowledge and helping me with loading and loaning me ramps to transport my tractor home ....
