Cut 1/2 Acre lawn about weekly so after approximately 8 uses, it died. I have never had an engine go bad on a lawnmower in 40 years of cutting lawns. This was a pretty little mower but it would fill up the bag in 1 lap around the yard and start lugging and banging on the first usage. Puffs of smoke billowed out after stopping and starting it for bag change. My grass is plush but this thing had no durability. Got the next higher model from Sears and while it sounds stronger, only time will tell. I have been cutting this lawn with a battery powered lawnmower for 3 years with no problem until it just rattled to pieces last year. I don't think this mower deserves the Craftsman name.... During the first mow it was ok it konked out once after adding gas and oil I was able to finish the job. the 2nd mow I had trouble starting and when I finally did it seemed like it was in low gear and shut down when trying to cut any high grass, so we returned (with no problems) and ungraded to a the 6.25 torque that as on sale for the same price as this one, crossing my fingers....maybe it was bad luck the lawnmower we got but we weren't happy with it.... It started up fine, but the engine surged constantly. There was definitely something wrong with the engine. While we cleaned it up real good before returning it, we noticed how cheaply made every component was. Sure, we were going for inexpensive, but this is ridiculous. The wheels look like they could snap at any minute. The undercarriage has no paint or visible rust proofing. The metal is so thin that any rust would probably make it disintegrate within a year or two. It was also difficult to start, taking 3 or more pulls. Sears allowed a flawless return. I got my money back and bought a Lawn Boy, which has stellar reviews online. Yes, I did my research this time. Good Luck to anyone who buys one of these!... Took it out of the box, added the oil that came with it, &amp; filled the tank with gas. My daughters and I mowed an overgrown 1/4 acre with no problem at all. Pushed the primer 3x and pulled the cord once. It started with no problem. Our yard is bumpy and the large wheels went over with ease. My eight year old was even able to use the mower. (With me along for the ride of course) Afterwards I squirted it with the hose to clean it and was worried because it wouldn't start. I let it dry for 1/2 an hour and it started up again fine. I would recommend this mower to single women with yards and no men to mow it.... I have used the bag, mulch, and side discharge features of this mower and they all perform well. I never had trouble starting the mower and it performs well. The only thing I don't necessary like is the amount of vibration it produces and the lack of the ability to adjust the handle up higher. I haven't figured that out yet.... I also thought the 5.5 hp didn't cut really well and was difficult to start at times. It would also just quit on me with a quarter tank of gas left. I would have to put more gas in before it would start back up. I returned to the store and upgraded to the 6.75 hp model. I was also disappointed with the customer service at the store. It took over an hour to make an return and new purchase. Had the 6.75 hp model not been on sale, I would have went to another store.... I was considering the same mower with the small wheels till a salesmen told me to use the big wheels if you have a rough terrain which it rolled smooth. I also was confused with a no choke mower but it starte right up and no problems....
