This is just a nice basic torque wrench. I would recommend the fancier model that clicks at the proper torque if you might have a hard time seeing the face of the gauge or need to be very precise.

I like that it comes in a (somewhat flimsy however, plastic container which can store the wrench in most normal situations.
...

I bought this a few years ago. Works good.

To the person who thinks the N-m ft-lb scales don't line up properly- I thought this at first too, but if you are actually torquing something they do line up properly. The scales and indicator are calibrated for when your are torquing and there is a curvature on the indicator's rod. If you are just moving the indicator with your finger then the N-m ft-lb scales won't line up right.
...

I used this simple torque wrench for decades for my DIY jobs -- it's ideal for evenly distributing clamping force on valve covers, oil pans, covers, etc.

I purchased this manual torque wrench for I wanted a simple to read and use tool. I use it to tighten my spark plugs which are specified for 13 lbs. If I over torque, the car could overheat.

The length of the tool helps me to apply additional torque easily. I torque slowly and read the guage. Once it hits 13 lbs, I am confident I have torqued the spark plug correctly. Afterwards I re apply and double check the readings on all four spark plugs.

The manual I use for my vehicle gives torque specs in Nm and Ft/lbs. I just happened to notice that the torque spec for my head nuts on the engine I'm building is 35 Nm. The manual also gave the spec it Ft/lbs which according to the manual is 25.8 Ft/lbs. However when I used the this torque wrench I noticed that 35 Nm didn't really line up very close to 25.8 it actually lines up between 20 and 22.5 Ft/lbs. I consulted a few different conversion charts for Nm to Ft/lbs and each confirmed that 35Nm=25.8Ft/lbs. So what is it? Am I over torquing or under torquing? Hard to trust this tool...
...

This is a perfect choice for use on my 2008 Mazda 5 oil filter.
It has a canister type filter. The oil filter plastic housing and the oil filter drain plug require exact tightening to low and precise torque levels, 30-35 Nm and 9-11 Nm, respectively. The plastic housing seals with an o-ring and you can't tell by "feel" when the o-ring is seated. If you over-tighten, the housing will be distorted. The drain plug on the end of the plastic filter is aluminum and could easily strip the threads of the plastic housing if over tightened. This inexpensive torque wrench is perfect for the job. I have three other torque wrenches, but a beam-type is the best for reading low torque values, unless you want to pay $200 for a digital....

After much difficulty with and ordinary (Craftsman) socket wrench, I was able to get a Saturn valve cover gasket to seal properly by tightening all the bolts to the same torque (spec = ~7lbs). Other "high end" torque wrenches start out at torques higher than this. Excellent value and performance!...

as a past tool consultant at sears, i also wanted to chime in on the warranty. it varries by torque wrench. the beam style ones like this carry the lifetime warranty. some of the clicker digi and micro torque ones carry a 1 year (keeping receipt is necessary) but i think that's changed recently. if your local store won't exchange, go get a new one off the shelf and show them the *forever* stamp on the package.

i have this one and it's worked great so far. low-tech rules....

Just thought I would chime in on the warranty issue. I checked with Sears and the beam style torque wrenches do have a lifetime warranty. It is the other types that have a 90 day warranty. The packaging is quite clearly marked.
I really like the beam style because I get constant feedback on how much torque I have applied. I also have a clicker style and I'm always afraid that it is out of calibration and I'm going to break a bolt before it clicks. In this particular case, for me, simple is better....

Great light duty torque wrench for the money and lifetime warrenty. You don't have to worry about having it recalbriated by a shop later. If you drop and bend the pointer, you can exchange it for a new one or try to bend it to zero. The first one I got from Sears was bent and didn't come with a manual, so I just exchanged it. Be sure the wrench is set at zero in the package! Be sure to read and follow the directions... technique is everything in getting an accurate reading. No ratchet....
