Im a contractor in New Jersey . I needed to replace an old vangard generator. I investigated the performance specs of a number of generator brands. In the end I would only feel comfortable with my sears pick. The price was right , and the specs seemed quite good as compared to a similar and very expensive Honda version. Its been two plus years averaging two full days a week. This 5600 watt Craftsman generator stands up to any brand. I start it with one pull. It powers my compressor, mitre box, skill saw, halogen lights quite well off a 100' extention. I have to recommend this generator. I could have made a huge mistake by either paying for a cheap 'throwaway' or an expensive generator when that kind of expenditure would have been totally unessasary . Sears makes a good product.
...

I bought this generator 1-1/2 years ago. When I brought it home, after minor assembly, I added the included oil, filled it with gas. It started on one pull and ran perfect. I connected it to my home and "test drove" it for a couple of hours, and it ran flawlessly.

Well, the other day, 2/7 - 2/10, in the "Old Dominion" we had a record snow storm and lost power for 4 days. When we first lost power it was 15 degrees outside. I was so glad that I had this generator. I wheeled it out of the garage and turned on the fuel petcock, pulled the starter cord, and like magic it was back to life, purring like a kitten.

I power my whole home (gas furnace, hot water heater, well-pump, two refrigerators, 42" HDTV, and whole house lights and outlets) with this Gen. except for the A/C Unit and Dryer. It might be nice to have a larger generator, but then again it uses more fuel than this one. I was getting more than10 hours on a full tank. Oh yeah, the stat-station is a great meter. Better than an hour...
...

I bought this generator to run my 2HP Craftsman air compressor at a garage I was renting without power. It did this with ease and I barely used two tanks of gas the whole summer. I had no trouble hauling it around in the back of my truck.

Did the first oil change at 5 hours on the dot with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W20. It would be nice if they could make an easier no spill/mess oil drain. I was able to prevent a mess by putting it up on bricks and placing a huge plastic container underneath.

The first thing I did after purchasing the generator was install an hour meter. I believe the higher end model has one that shows the actual hours, but this one just shows warnings. It would be nice if there was a button to show the hours since the computer obviously keeps track for the warnings. I just spliced the signal wire going to the maintenance screen. For resale hour meters are crucial....

I bought this unit in Sept 08 and have yet to pull the start cord.
It has leaked oil since I bought it, and it's on the third trip back to the repair shop. It takes two to three weeks turnaround to have them try and fix it. Each time I get it back, I let it sit in the garage for about 7 days, and there is a pool of oil on the floor. I just hope they can fix the unit before the warranty runs out. Would certianly like to see if it runs....

I bought this Generator in January of 2008 and got it all wired up to the house with the reliance transfer switch. After that I thought I would never get a chance to really use it. I exercise it for about 20 minutes every month to make sure it is stays running. Well, this past weekend we had an ice storm which I knew was coming so I changed the oil and go plenty of fuel to be ready. Power went out Friday early monring and did not come back on until Sunday later afternoon. We ran the generator from 5AM every morning until 8PM every night and it ran like a champ I only burned about 5 Gallons each day which impressed me. We powered our Well, Furnace, Refrig, Freezer, lights, computers, with plenty of power to spare. I changed the oil once on Saturday afternoon and then again Sunday evening when the power came back on. I just felt it had worked so hard it derserved it. Beware, if you have one of these generators, everyone will want to be at your house. We had many people over for showers, dinner,......

I bought this generator in September of 2008 along with a manual transfer switch kit. After installing everything and testing it in the fall, the generator was put away in my basement until this past Friday.

New England was clobbered this past Friday with a fast moving ice storm. The entire region is without power as there are trees and utility lines down everywhere. The generator came out of storage at 4:30 AM on Friday morning, was filled with fresh gas, and started right up on the first pull. It has now been running nearly continuously for the past four days, stopping only for refueling and to check the oil level. I anticipate needing to run it for about 3 more days as the huge extent of the damage here is making repairs to the utility lines very slow.

Where it is connected to a transfer switch, the generator has allowed us almost normal living in our home, where the majority of our neighbors have retreated to hotels or relatives houses. I am running nearly all of our regular household......

I am so glad we purchased it. It ran 5 heaters and 4 lights. We are goingt to have the generator wired in to the furnance soon - so incase this happens again we will not be without heat/power. I think this generator is a must have! If you do buy one just make sure you have at least 2 gas cans full of gas....

Purchased new following Hurricane Rita, stored two years until Hurricane Ike swept through our area this summer. First use, worked great, moderate loading of about 2300 watts, surge to 3000. Got about 12 hours to a tank of gas, no oil consumption to speak of. Easy for anyone to start (use full choke). The included Adapter Cord Set was real handy. I had to laugh though that the maintenance reminder cames on to check the oil every 8 hours, that seems rather conservative, unless there is a puddle of oil under the unit! Ran solid about 36 hours until we ran out of gas. Don't plan on siphoning gas from your car folks, most late models that is not possible. Store enough gas in advance or you will find yourself in gas lines for hours following the storm! Altogether used about 150 hours, changed oil 3 times. Small minus is it is difficult to access spark plug. The side panel should be removable to make this easier, and when putting oil in cylinder before long storage....

This generator made civilized life possible. It worked great out of the box and got us through Hurricane Ike in September 08. It is noisy, but they all are. This thing powered: the side by side fridge, 2 computers (modems and routers too), 2 TV sets, a room lamp or two, two window fans, and other smaller items (cell phone chargers) all at the same time. It never even grunted at the strain! At night, it powered a room a/c unit and the side by side fridge, and a small lamp. The most it showed on the display was 20% of capacity. It did well on gasoline and oil changes were easy. Truly, one pull got her started. It came with a nice long super heavy duty cord set and more outlets than I ever needed. The instruction manual is a little brief on some details and I would have liked a better explanation of the LED power meter. But other than that, this is a great unit that I will use for years & years. In a dark, humid, and buggy hurricane ravaged Houston in September, this thing really kept us comfortable......

My father and I each got one of these models for about $800 each after tax during Buffalo's October Storm last year. They work great! I love the heavy-duty cable that is supplied, and how it starts right up. We powered half my house with this generator (went right into the circuit breaker) and my neighbor's refrigerator too --- all without even pulling a quarter load! Pretty darned impressive. Haven't had a need to use it again, but it still starts right up and runs like a top. If it's anything like my 7 year old Craftsman mower, it will continue to run like a top, too. Great job, Craftsman engineers......

I got this generator on the Wednesday before Hurricane Ike, it was one of the only ones that I could find to fit my needs in the area. I bought it online and picked it up at the store. Come to find out, it was a display and when I picked it up it was missing the wheel kit and the multicord that was supposed to be included. I called the service number to get the replacements but to no avail, I haven't heard back from them yet and it has been five weeks.
Aside from that, it is a great generator, works like a champ, starts with a single pull, (another thing, the one I ordered was supposed to be electic start and was not, I did pay for it though)
This thing ran for two weeks while I had no power with no issues, would definately recommend to others....
