Counselor40 says "Far better than I dared hope" about Craftsman Bypass Pruner

Recently I purchased a bypass hand pruner from Sears. At less than $14, I considered it an interim purchase, until I could afford a professional quality model. I have been very pleased with this purchase. It cuts cleanly and almost effortlessly. I've used it for purposes other than the primary, pruning purpose for wich I purchased it. For example, it works well to harvest okra. I'll certainly be purchasing more, and larger, home and garden products from Sears....

ricktburns says "sharp but poor quality Craftsman Bypass Pruners" about Craftsman Bypass Pruner

My wife's previous bypass pruners from another store had broken. I found these at Sears and bought them for her to use in her garden.

Initially I was a little disappointed to find that when I got home after buying them that they are no longer made in the US. But with all the quality issues that these pruners have I'm not at all surprised.

The pruners are sharp but don't appears as durable as her previous ones, which coincidentally only lasted one season. The locking mechanism sticks and is nearly impossible to operate with one hand. The handles are hard, oddly shaped and uncomfortable to hold for longer periods of time.

In retrospect, even with the lifetime warranty I would steer clear of these Craftsman Bypass Pruners.
...

I like these bypass pruners and I got them on sale for seven dollars instead of the regular thirteen. The blade is hardened and very sharp. They fit together very well and the double dipped handles make for a nice cushion and offer good grip when working with tough branches. They cut living as well as dead plant growth very well and cut a surprisingly large diameter branch.
...

ngai says "does the job" about Craftsman Bypass Pruner

I'm going to be honest. This is not as good as the Friskars one, but these Craftsman Bypass Pruners are also half the price and does the job. They make nice clean cuts, and even cuts through some decent sized branches. They even come with a lifetime warranty, so should this ever fail, you can just bring it back to the store for a new one.

My advice is to buy this in the store. Not every one is created equal. I looked through about 5 of these before finding one where the blades have a nice tight fit. Again, if you run into problems, you can always exchange it, but might as well find a good one on the first go around.
...
