After spending 3 hours trying to remove the clamp to the lower radiator hose, I was very frustrated and went to Sears website to see if there was a better way to do this. I seen these pliers and went to my local sears store and bought this set of pliers and went home and in no time I had the radiator hoses replaced. There was no other way to remove the clamps without this set of hose clamp pliers due to the obstruction of other lines and cables in the engine compartment. These Craftsman Hose Clamp Pliers are a great investment and will save a lot of time and frustration. They are made well and work as advertised. There is an extra repair clip included in case the cable comes apart. The pliers are made in France and have Craftsman's life time warranty. The cable is a consumable item and there are replacements available. Overall an excellent tool and compared to others I have seen on line, Are a great value at $40. Some others are over a hundred dollars. Every mechanic should this Hose clamp...
...

I work as a professional mechanic and this tool is an absolute requirement for any automotive toolbox. It makes life so much easier when you are trying to get at those high-tension radiator hose clamps that are usually angled in a very hard to access spot. The hose clamp pliers have a secure hold on the hose clamp when in use and saves you a lot of time when you are replacing water pumps, radiator hoses, flushing radiators, replacing timing belts, etc. It also has a locking point to keep the hose clamp open so you can maneuver the hose. My only complaint with these hose clamp pliers are that there is no intermediate locking point which means that sometimes you can get dangerously close to locking the hose clamp itself which is not fun.
...

These pliers worked where nothing else would! I was replacing the heat exchanger hoses. One of the clamps off of the engine block was next to the firewall. I couldn't get to the clamp with anything else. It went on and stayed on. It's nice that the pliers lock closed so you don't have to keep gripping them to keep the hose clamp open. If you work with hose clamps, these are not cheap, but worth the money in time and aggrivation saved!
...

Good to reach & manipulate in hard to reach hose spring/tension clamps, but the clamps have to be oriented in the right/certain way to use this to begin with. You can feel with your fingers and try to manipulate with this which is still easier than using plain pliers. For the places you can see/reach well this tool makes life very easy. In my case I had to grab and loosen up 2 coolant hose spring clamps between the engine and the firewall (99 Nissan Maxima) which couldn't be seen but only felt and this got the job done though with some difficulty - I had to first use pliers to rotate the clamp to orient it right. Without this tool I think it would have been close to impossible. Hope this helps someone
...

These pliers are great and can get into small areas and they also lock so you can use both hands to move the hose clamp to where you need it. The only negative is they are only made for the bigger style clamps, not the ones for like fuel lines on a lawn mower, but you can easily do those with pliers.
...

This thing makes a somewhat frustrating job both quick and easy. I've had this for several months now and use it 3-4 times a day and it's locking mechanism works as well as it did the day I bought it, which is nice so your hands are free to push the clamp back and away from the hose end. It also doesn't destroy the clamps like alot of our methods of removal do, such as a pair of pliers etc. I highly recommend this hose clamp to anyone no matter mechanic or DYI.
...

The cable operated hose clamp pliers make working with spring clamps, quick, easy and painless. No more trying to wrestle the clamps off with a pair of adjustable pliers. Spring clamps are said to have a more even hold on the hose and won't rust like the screw clamps.

Comes with a cable-keep set screw for when the cable eventually will break, but there's no place on the tool to store it so keep track of it when you take it out of the package.
...
