<p>i have this unit with two different attachments and i really wasnt expecting much when i got t hem. i was looking for cheap tools that just got the job done. i have to say that two years later, i am overwhelmed by the performance. in addition to that, in two years, i am still on the same tank of gas, about to refill for the first time - and i use this as a trimmer, a blower, and also occasionally as a heavy brush trimmer. i have nothing bad to say about this item.</p>...

This is a great little string trimmer. I was originally looking for one of the 33cc models, they were out of stock at my local store. So I took a chance on the 25cc convertable model.
All I can say is that I am NOT dissappointed in the least, assembled in 5 minutes, running in 7.
Note to any purchasers of this model, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS !!!!!!
The starting method is a little different than older types of equipment. Following the recommened procedure, started in 3 pulls, ran like a banshee from there on, no hot start issues either, good job Craftsman !! Good power too, no complaints there either. Can't wait to get the pole pruner attatchment for it....

So I bought this trimmer for my small yard 1/3 acre lot. First time using a gas powered trimmer and was at first not stoked on it. As its heavy compared to an electric. Then I found out it has some POWER. Anyway easy to start, but does take about minute to warm up, which is a must do. After that it hacks through weeds, trims my tree limbs. (I am sure it wasn't made for it, but what ever) I bought the tiller attachment and it blasts through my clay soil and even dug up quarter of a cinder block. Followed the manual for the winterizing and got it to start on the 3rd pull in the spring. Absolutely recommend it, for an all around meanace light weight....

I just used this for the first time yesterday and it started easily and has plenty of power. It is heavier than my older model and left my arms sore.
The line that comes with the trimmer is not that great, but after replacing cut twice as fast. I have always and will continue to buy craftsman yard equipment. You can't beat the quality for the price....

This Craftsman 25cc String trimmer was rated last year in the May 2008 magazine issue rated overall very good in trimming and edging.
This trimmer replaced a lighter Craftsman that I purchased in 1996. Overall, this trimmer does a a good job in trimming. It is a little heavy if you are used to a lightweight model. The dual line design is very efficient but difficult to wind at times. The bump feed is very sensitive, sometimes just brushing the ground results in additional line being fed through the head....

The only reason that I am giving two stars instead of one is because I am finishing up my 5th summer with the product and it still runs. However, this will be it's last.
My number one complaint is the amount of vibration that the power plant gives off. It vibrates so badly that it literally hurts your hands after only a couple of minutes. It has done that since day one. I have to break the work up in to sections, I just can't hang on to it that long.
My second major complaint is that halfway through summer #3 the unit would not run...at all. I took off the outer plastic parts and discovered that the head had come loose from the block. So loose, in fact, that you could remove the head bolts with just your fingers. Completely unacceptable. After tightening everything back up, it ran again.
Recently, I helped mow a friends lawn and used his trimmer. It was an unbelieveable difference, and the catalyst that prompted my decision to ditch my trimmer.
Definitely cannot recommend this product....

I've had this trimmer for about 2 years now, it worked great at first. Took down everything in it's path and was very light weight. Now I'm having issues, after starting it will idle but as soon as you use the throttle it cuts out. I believe it's a fuel return line issue and an easy fix, but still not something I would expect from craftsman....

Purchased this after going through my third Ryobi in three years. This has plenty of power, string feeds very easy, easy to load once you figure out how!, lightwieght and handles very well. For those of you that have had trouble starting, I have to agree with another post that you might need to check mixer. Starts every time for me. Keep it clean and she runs like a dream....

Have been using since March. Starts easily each time, yes it gets dirty........it's a power tool w/ oil. Cleans up great with a spray of WD40 and shoprag. Feeds w/o issue if you load it right. If you have a hard time starting, check your gas mixture. doing it right does make a diffence. I replaced a simular model from Sears that was over 10 years old and never had a major repair. Thanks Craftsman....

I have used this trimmer 4 years,
I have owned many different brands
in the past.
This unit has always started with ease, I have the pole saw attatchment, cutt thru 4"Limbs like butter.
only issue string trimmer (single
line) has not worked as well as a
straight shaft with dual line.
I will now go and try cuitivator, and edger attatchments. I use this unit on deer lease, at home and a couple other properties , so it has seen lion's share of use!...

I live in the northeast and use the trimmer about every other week for an hour maybe 7 mos out of the year. I have owned it for about 4 1/2 years. Last year towards the end of the season I noticed the trimmer not revving up like it should. I cleaned the air filter and put a new spark plug in which seemed to fix the problem until I was finishing up that day and it kept running worse until it would only run with the choke on. I tried checking the air cleaner again and as I was pulling off the cover I realized the the whole cylinder was loose from the crankcase. Upon further inspection I found that there were only 2 allen head screws holding the cylinder onto the cases and they were both tight but the cylinder had warped bad enough that it was causing the problems. I was hoping for a longer life of the trimmer since Mechanically and cosmetically everything else is in great shape....

Assembly was quite easy. I could care less about the convertible options though. Started right up, however I noticed an odd feature I guess. The shaft makes an awful noise until you apply the throttle after warm-up. The head won't rotate on idle....again, not sure if this is normal or not for this trimmer. The last Craftsman line trimmer I had didn't do this, nor any other brand trimmer I have ever owned. Haven't applied it to the yard yet...but if any issues....I will update....

After 4 years of trouble free service the vinyl fuel line dissolved. This is a 1/8 inch line and is very difficult to locate. They should have used rubber instead of cheap vinyl. When trying to locate parts on the Sears website, the model number does not show any matches. I guess I am going to have to throw away a perfectly good trimmer that won't start due to cheap parts. I recommend not storing this unit with gas in the tank...

So far so good with this trimmer. I bought this trimmer this season. I have weed-eated around 2000 sq. ft. on the original line that came installed from the factory and have not had to replace line yet, even though I have advanced the line without intending to (as it does not take much). Easy on gas, app. 1.5 tankfuls per 1000 sq. ft.. Starts on the third pull every time. Did have a problem with the ignition switch not shutting off the engine once, but not since. If it continues to work as well next season I will be thrilled....
