This Craftsman Electric Trimmer is very easily assembled and quite sturdy. I am 63 yr old female and could handle this trimmer with ease...it is very powerful and goes thru thick overgrown weeds and grass in a second. I had gotten a Black & Decker comparable to this Craftsman and the string spool broke first time I used it. Returned it and did more research and came up with this Craftsman...I recommend it to all....

This Craftsman Electric Line Trimmer is a great trimmer, works exceptionally well with factory spooled line. Careful, level rewind of the spool will provide similar performance. Major fault with this product is "PLASTIC" drive gears (made in "CHINA") which melt or shatter with continuous use. Was able to use intermittently for almost 2 yrs. before gear shattered (5 times longer than the B&D Grasshog XP with same "PLASTIC" issues--went through 4 of those before buying the Craftsman). No refund or exchange available, simply bought another (under $45.00) ... great price, wouldn't pay more than that. Bottom line, it works well!
...

This is possibly one of the worst products I have ever owned and absolutely the worst trimmer I have ever used. The big issue is that the automatic line feeder keeps on feeding line until the line start to cut my legs and then also gets wrapped up and stops the motor. Sears refuses to refund my money or to even repair the thing for free, they want me to pay for the repair to a faulty product. This has ruined my opinion of Sears and Craftsman all together. Before this trimmer I had a Black and Decker Grass Hog for 7 years and never had a problem with it.
...

Great little yard trimmer. I went through two 2-stroke gas trimmers and got tired of them never starting. Finally went back to electric and am thrilled I did. It was either spend around $50 for a good electric or jump up to $300+ and get a good 4-stroke power unit. I am SO glad I saved the money. This is a terrific little unit and the automatic spooler is a nice feature. It will occasionally not spool, but it is easy to adjust. I definitely recommend this one.
...

This product is good except for the line cartridge. It is a double line feed and constantly got hung up. I could never complete trimming in a smooth no hassle job. The cartridge only lasted about 3 trimmings and then I had to go to Sears and buy another one for about $8.00. Most of the time the particular cartridge for this product was not available. I always had to go on line and order, which cost more and then I had to wait. I always had to stop mid trimming and unravel the line. Many times I just wanted to throw this product in the dumpster. After two years of using this product without satisfaction....I have given up. SEARS.....................I want my money back. The line feed cartridge need to be reconfigured.
...

Not a bad deal for $49.99. As with all tools, you get what you pay for.

Overall, the trimmer is fairly well built, has good balance, and is very powerful. Assembly is minor and quick.

I'm not thrilled with the adjustable auxiliary handle. The knob seems poorly made and I get the feeling that I will have to replace it or the bolt that attaches it to the trimmer shaft at least once during the lifetime of the trimmer. There is a recess in the knob where a nut should be pressed, but the nut was nowhere to be found upon initial inspection. This leads me to believe that the plastic knob can and will get stripped easily and will require replacement.

Another negative is that the cord harness is not very effective at keeping the power cable attached during operation. Twice during first use, the cord detached, leaving me to think that I had tripped a breaker. I suggest wrapping the cord around the handle as well as passing it through the harness, just as a precaution.

The trimmer is very easy...
...

This Model # 74547 has to be one of the best trimmers that I bought ever. I have read all of the reviews of what other people had to say and went to the Sears store to look at this trimmer myself in person and as well look at the other trimmers at the same time. I did not intially buy this trimmer at first, I gave it a night to think about it to think it over and re-read some of the reviews that were posted. This trimmer is super light weight compared to the other Sears trimmer Model # 74545 which feels like a tank. I got to use my new trimmer for the first time last night, it swings from side to side like a light feather. The built in side sweeper is a gimmick, something a product designer probably thought of, I think it is useless, because most people will use a blower anyway. For those that cry about the replacement spool not being available at the Sears store, I say this, get a clue. I really never like trimmer lines that are on a spool, they never work and always get...
...

I just purchased this corded electric line trimmer/edger the other day and have only used it once. It seemed to do a good job at trimming the grass in my yard, nothing too tall or heavy. it was alot quieter than my old weedeater that finally died. The edger seemed to work ok but you have to be careful to get a clean straight line when edging along the sidewalk. I don't think the blower feature works very well, I had to use my other blower to clean the walk but that's ok. I have read that replacement spools are hard to find for this product and they were out of them at the store I bought it at but I plan on rewinding my own anyway. I don't know how easy it will be to wind new line on the spool which I plan on doing when it runs out but I have read other reviews that claim it is easy, we will see. I would say I am happy with this product so far unless something terrible happens after using it more.

I had a Craftsman electric trimmer for 12 years and it worked great. About a year ago, Sears stopped selling the line spool for it, so there was no choice but to get a new model. I bought this one, which appeared to be a comparable model. HOWEVER, I had trouble with it from day one (purchased in fall 2008). Within one year, it completely stopped working (September 2009). The main problems were related to line-feeding. Frequently, the line would get caught in the spool housing. That required stopping the trimmer, untangling the line, and sometimes re-loading it completely. Frequently. The last time this happened, it completely ruined the motor.

I've been a loyal Sears customer for years (for example, our kitchen is full of Kenmore appliances). Yard tools just aren't what they used to be at Sears. I had a similarly disappointing experience with a Craftsman lawnmower (replaced a Craftsman that I had for many years and the new comparable model was much lower quality).

SO...I decided to do...
...
