clevinski says "Craftsman EntryEase Fingerprint Keyless Entry Pad rarely works." about Craftsman EntryEase Fingerprint Keyless Entry Pad

I purchased the Craftsman EntryEase Fingerprint Keyless Entry Pad because I liked the idea of the higher security, the low sale price and the fact that it is a cool technology. It was very deeply discounted ($35 with a regular price of around $110), where a comparable keypad was $40, so I took a chance on it. Other reviews talked about how difficult it was to get a good scan, but I assumed that the other reviewers were doing something incorrectly, and that since I'm an engineer, I could figure out the right way. I was wrong.

On the positive side, it installs easily, is well made, and was a great price. It synchronized with my Craftsman garage door opener on the first try.

The negatives all have to do with the actual scanning. I'm sure you've seen fingerprint scanners on TV. You will notice that these scanners have a moving light/sensor of some kind, very similar to the way a computer scanner works. With those scanners, you hold your finger steady and the scanning sensor moves across...
...

I bought this for my son to get in the house after school. It's very undependable. I can't get it to work at all. My son have a little more success with it than i do. I thought it would be more secure than the number pad.Well i was right. It's so secure we can't get in. I wouldn't recommend it. I will be exchanging it for a number pad soon.
...

...that you need to realize that, although you are gaining superior security with this device, you are giving up the ability to allow someone into your home via the normal keypad when you are away from the house (i.e.: running late and meeting someone at your house and want to allow them access).

For example: I was meeting the baby-sitter at my house after work one day (she was taking care of our 1 year baby on a rare Saturday in which I had to work a half-day). I wanted her to meet me at the house at a certain time. Of course, I ran into weekend road construction and was about 20 minutes late. In the old days, I would've called and gave her a code (I later simply change the code) that would have allowed her into the house, rather than her having to wait in her car in 95 degree weather w/my infant daughter. I never thought of this situation when I bought this device. So just be forewarned.

You get something (the neat factor and some convenience), but you give up something...
...

This is better than the numeric keypad because it gives you piece of mind that someone can't guess you garage door code. I was suprised at how well it reads your finger print each time, but you just have to pay attnetion to the directions on how to swipe otherwise it won't work well. Takes 5 seconds to program to a craftsman opener, very easy!!
...

This is a great product. It's easy to set up and install. It took me less than 15 minutes to put it up. I like the idea of using fingerprints. It's more secured than using the numeric keypad models to me. Not to mention that you don't have to memorized the PIN's. Some of the reviews claimed that having hard time scanning the fingerprints to get the door opened. I have no problems scanning mine. You just have to swipe slowly. It should be working like an charm. My wife loves it also after I register her fingerprint into it. It gives us a sense of secured mind that next time if we forget our keys inside, we still have an option of using our fingerprints to get us into our house.
...

This biometric device uses the same kind of finger print reading sensor strip used in laptops...and, have those ever worked reliably in laptops? For those of us who have fingerprint readers on our laptops, we know...and, the answer is No. That's a real shame, people love technology that makes our lives more convenient and secure, so there's defnitely a market for products like this. BUT, it has to be able to WORK RELIABLY. Hopefully, Sears will get the message and release a more reliable 2.0 version of this product and please avoid the "finger swipe" type of sensors. They have a horrible "successful scan" rate....

I was very excited to buy this product for my kids so I would not have to worry about them forgetting their keys all the time. I progrmmed their fingers and they enrolled fine. But the machine does not consistently open. It works for about 1% of the time at the most. Not worth anyones time unfortunately. The kids are very frustrated with it. I just want it to work for them. I paid the money and it does not do what it is supposed to do. I would like someone to contact me as well to get my money back. I really really wanted this to work and we are all so disapointed in this product. My kids are 12, 13 and 18 etc. It does not even work for the 18 year old....

I read a couple reviews and like the idea. So I went to sears.com but the price is $119.99. I waited until it was on sell and purchase it for $69.99 plus tax. Then pick it up at local Sears Store. However, it does not work with my Lift Master. So I went back to purchase the Universal Receiver for $19.99. I installed and completed within 30 minutes. Everyone in my family love it. I don't have to worry that my kid will give the code to anyone. I even installed fingerprint keyless entry for my door. So I don't have to worry that my kid will lost the key. Great security compares with the price I paid....

This device works well for adults. My wife and I can open the garage door with a single swipe. However, I really bought it for my kids (6 and 8) to use after school, in case I'm not home yet. The scanner seems to have trouble reading small fingers. Even when I hold their finger and swipe it slowly and carefully, it still fails to read 8 times out of ten. My kids get frustrated swiping their finger over and over and over... Its not that the print doesn't match - it just doesn't read it and they get the RETRY light....

Extremely easy to use right out of the package. I had my family of four enrolled in a matter of minutes and had it programmed immediately after with no problems. Not too bad of a price for $99 with 10% off at the store. However, after I got home and looked it up on line I saw where Sears is offering $30 off if you purchase this on line, which would have made it $69 plus shipping. Considering what you will pay for a keypad remote, this is a good deal for $69 if you're willing to order it on line and wait for the shipping....
