As an engineer and technician for more than 30 years it is good to see a meter of good quality at a very reasonable price. This meter has what you need for routine testing of most electrical and electronic components including temperature in Celsius or Farenheit with the available accessory thermocouple probe. The meter is accurate and quick responding and I have purchased two as gifts....

<p>I bought this because it's physical size is closer to the size of my 4 year old craftsman multimeter that just gave out. The first time I used it I knew the display was much smaller than it looked through the packaging. I guess I will have to return it for the bulker meter with the larger display. </p>...

<p>Bought this because I need to have an easy to use multimeter to learn how to troubleshoot electrical issues and test conductivity. The display is easy to read and the instructions give enough direction that I can learn while also getting results. The auto off feature is handy since I've gotten used to many things in life going into hibernate or sleep or auto off and unfortunately not all of the Craftsman multimeters do go off automatically. This should be a battery saving investment for me.</p>...

<p>The first meter was a dud.....I went back to sears and they replaced it with no problems at all. This meter is nice for people who can't afford a good reliable Fluke or equivalent. I bought this thing to read small caps and resistors in the nano and micro range since my big expensive meter does not like these small ranges. Some people say these meters are not very accurate. It depends on which one you get. The first meter was almost two volts off on the VCA readings. It was better in terms of accuracy in the other ranges....The meter that I got as a replacement is only .5 volts off in the VCA setting. In the VDC setting, the readings I got were about .04 volts off compared to a reliable calibrated meter. Not bad for a fairly inexpensive meter. </p>...

I work for an electronics company where we primarily use Fluke Meters, but I wanted a meter at home, so I bought this meter.

Calibration: I have brought the meter to work about every 12 to 18 months to have the calibration department hook it up to their calibration equipment to test its accuracy. Each time the calibration department has tested the meter, based on our ISO Standards, the meter has been in spec, with no internal adjustments ever made.

I would recommend this meter to anyone who wants a good auto-ranging meter for use around the home, or for the hobbyist, like a model railroader or those into radio control. It works great, measures accurately, easy to read, and fits in the hand nicely. I don't use it a lot around the house, but it does come in very hand for troubleshooting issues, and those electronic hobbies. As far as use on the job everyday, I can't comment on that for this meter. If you want a great everyday use meter on the job, I would then recommend the Fluke 77....

We bought 3 of these meters to use as loaners to co-op students while working with us. The meters were initially fine. They seemed accurate enough for troubleshooting but we didn't use them for collecting test data, just verifying function, etc.
The problems arouse with time, the sockets which accept the test leads have begun to fatigue and break off from the internal circuit board with constant use. They have lasted several years so I suppose for the price and if they aren't used on an every day basis they would be fine for home use....

I am an electrician for a fire protection company. (all aspects - installation, service, repair) We deal in all aspects of fire protection, detection and etc. I have had this meter for over 5 years and not had one problem. A couple of battery changes over 5 years is tolerable. I think I got a decent return on my investment considering I am still using the same meter to this day....

Mastertech says "These Craftsman meter are not accurate at all" about Craftsman Multimeter

I am an automotive technician and voltage range from .2mV to V matters a whole lot. I compared this unit and the other expensive model craftsman meter to a $250 dollar PDI unit and wow was these meter way off, about .8v-1.1v.
I measured voltage from a circuit board that was 12v regulated. This unit and the other Craftsman unit measured 13.1v on a regulated 12v circuit so 1.1v is a lot. If I were to measure a battery and it was dead(12.3v) and it measured 13.1v then I will assume its fine, but in reality its a dead battery due to an inaccurate meter.
I give a major thumbs down for accuracy, but a thumbs up for features. Avoid these craftsman meter at all cost. If price is a factor I recommend the Actron units, they are more accurate than any Craftman at any price. I measured them against the PDI unit and they were ~ .01v off; not bad for low price units....

I bought this meter when I first started in the HVAC trade 3 years ago. My boss told me that it would last for a year before I was ready to upgrade to a Fluke. Three years later I am still using it and have no intention of changing.

I use the VAC, ohms, and temp at just about every service call. I do not use the current function as I prefer an amprobe. I have used the capacitance function on a few occasions, primarily to verify a bad capacitor. I cannot say enough positive things about this meter.

Like one of the other reviewers noted, I will be buying another as stock in case Sears discontinues this meter. This is truly a remarkable buy....

I am a professional air conditioner technician. This meter is a great value. It has all the testing specs I need to diagnose any problem. The optional temperature leads are a must for my work. The capacitor setting has a "beep" function &amp; a hold butoon so I don't need to look at the meter if I don't need to see the values. The unit is compact &amp; fits in my already crowded tool box. It has a rubber covering that protects the meter when I drop it, which is too often. I highly recommend this meter to any one who looking for this kind of tool. Other makes are more expensive &amp; don't do anything more. I have had this unit for over a year &amp; am buying another in case it is discontinued in the future. I love it!...
