I did a lot of research before I decided on the PGT 9000. I looked at many comparable models from other manufacturers and my deciding factor was that you got much more for your money with this tractor. I was hoping that I would like it as much in reality as I did on paper. Well, I have had the tractor for the bulk of the summer now and it has not disappointed. It is very solid, mows great, rides smooth and has a lot of options. I especially like the 12 cutting positions. I use the tractor to mow a 2.5 acre lawn with some obstacles and minimal slopes. It mows so well I actually look forward to the chore I used to hate. I have had no problems with this tractor and would recommend it to anyone. Don't forget to follow the setup section in the manual which instructs on adjusting tire pressure, deck leveling, etc.
...

I selected and paid a little more for the "professional" grade mower since I have about 4 acres to cut weekly. Most of the yard is fairly level but there are some rough patches as well, so I wanted a tractor with some power. The first 2 or 3 weeks everything was fine, the tractor "cut grass:, nothing special, but it worked. Each week following... I ran into more and more stalling issues. After 2 hrs the tractor wouldnt start, I would let it set for 1/2 hr then It would work, then it took 1 hr to sit before working, then 2, 3, 4 and so on. I bought the tractor in May '09, by Aug 09 and about 45 hrs of riding time, it shut down completely. Of course I ran through all of the troubleshooting steps, to no avail. It seemed to be overheating. I called the warranty dept, some one came out 5 days later. He said the gas cap was TOO TIGHT!? Well believe it or not, he was partially correct. I was cutting this weekend and the tractor started to gasp and sputter, I loosed the cap...
...

This is a Great Tractor for the money but 2 Issues need to be corrected.

1. The left front deck wheel (looking from seated position) needs to be moved about 3-4 Inches further in from the edge of the mower deck. Where the wheel is currently located the wheel is subject to damage when cutting close to curved Beligum Block Driveway. I moved the wheel over by mounting a 6 inch flange on the inside of the existing wheel bracket and remounted the wheel on the inside side of the flange.

2. The ability to raise the mower deck higher than you can currently. I am not able to raise the deck high enough to drive over certain areas. I did not have this problem with any of my previous (6) Lawn Tractors.

Other then those two issues I am completly satisfied with the powerful Lawn Tractor.

I bought my Craftsman Professional PGT 9000 28 HP/54" Garden Tractor in April and I am pleased with its mowing capability. However, there is a design flaw that needs correcting. If you are mowing over uneven ground, the hood slips off of the 2 puny little bumps on the frame that are designed to hold the hood in place. The plastic form underneath the hood that wraps around the top of the engine is pulled off and the heat from the engine melts it away. I have corrected the design flaw on my own with the use of a bungee cord that connects one side vent and goes under the steering wheel to the other side vent. Having to use a bungee cord to be able to operate a $3000.00 tractor is disappointing. For a garden tractor that is designed for professional use and should stand up to mowing over 2 acres, this design flaw is a major issue. Unfortunately, I have looked at numerous other models and they all seem to have these same small bumps that are supposed to hold the hood in place. This...
...

We bought this unit to replace a used John Deere LX100. Compared to the JD, it's not nearly as nice. Our 3 acres is rough pastuer-like terrain, so we spin out regularly on the uneven ground. have purchased "weights" for the tires, which I hope will help. Also, the unit doesn't start easily. Takes several tries before the engine engages. A service tech advised this unit has an "automatic choke" (which the user's manual doesn't address). Supposedly, you must turn the key one knotch, then back to off. Repeat this and on the third try, turn the key completely to 4th knotch and it will start. The first try brings the choke 1/3rd open, the 2nd to 2/3rds and the third try is completely open. Although I suspect this is a faulty carb, and the tech had never been out on this type machine to see the automatic choke feature, he claims it's "designed that way." For the money, I'm not very pleased....

I stopped in after my purchase and they got me set up with the correct filter and oil I needed for the first oil change and answered my questions completely. I like that the hood comes completely off, talk about ease of maintenance. People have already commented on how well my lawn looks. Again great tractor!!...

I currently have 15 running hours on my PGT 9000 lawn tractor. After the first 8 running hours, the tractor stopped while mowing. Four weeks later and three different service technicians, I was back in business. The service technicians replaced the wiring harness, the ignition switch, and finally the electronic fuel maintenance systems which proved to be the problem. After 12 running hours the lawn deck mower belt stripped off for no apparent reason. After 15 running hours the lawn tractor has failed again while mowing with the same electronic fuel system issues....

This is a really good tractor for the money. We have had it about a month now (and still have an older Craftsman LT3000 that is about 5 years old). Our older tractor has been very reliable but needed one that would be able to handle sleeve hitch attachments (disc and scrape blade).

We have about 3 acres and looked at larger farm tractors, but the high price of the tractor along with the attachments and storage had us looking at the garden tractors. We were not sure if this would be more of a toy than a tractor but we were pleasantly surprised. As long as you keep its limitations in mind (traction and weight), this can hold its own in the yard. It is also easier to move if stuck than a larger tractor. It takes longer to do the work (discing and grading) than a larger tractor, but is easier to maneuver around a yard without damaging the rest of the yard.

The mower deck is really nice also. My older LT3000 had a 42 cut which was nice, but with this one (54 cut) I can cut the grass in about......

I purchased this tractor a couple of months ago and have found the cut quality very disappointing. When I mow, there is always a 6-8 inch strip of un-cut grass that follows behind the front-right wheel. It seems as if this wheel is laying the grass down, but the mowing blades are not picking the grass back up enabling it to be cut. I have tried every possible solution I can think of including different cutting speeds, different air pressures, and different mowing heights. Also, the mowing deck has been leveled and the front is 1/2" lower than the rear exactly as the manual states. Aside from the cutting problem everything is good including the power, transmission, and fuel capacity. In the end, I regret spending this much money on this tractor because it can't perform the main function its intended to do. I had a Craftsman before that was much cheaper and it would cut circles around this one....

I have mowed about 4 acres with this mower and it delivers the goods. It is a well built machine with heavy duty spindles and deck as well as beefy axles and a powerful motor but it rides smooth as silk and the speed you can mow at is awesome. It has literally cut my mowing time in half. I also have an area that stays fairly moist due to an under ground spring and the grass there gets really tall and thick but with the 12 position cutting deck I was able to cut it once at the 12 position and then bring it on down to about a seven, and the seven is really where I have been keeping my lawn cut at. It gives a nice cut, a wide cut and a comfortable ride. It is amazing what spending a little extra money will get you when you are talking lawn mowers, I purchased a Troy Bilt 42" Super Bronco tractor in 2006 for $1400.00, since that purchase I have put $600.00 back into it in repairs (belts, blades, spindles, axles, etc..), I finally got tired of it nickel and diming me to death that I purchased......

I had the unit delivered to my home. The delivery people were quite helpful and prompt. Make sure you do the initial setup from the instruction manual. This includes lowering the tire pressure and leveling the deck. I have had the unit about a month now. It is very well built and I have had no issues with it. It is a very powerful garden tractor. It has good traction and mows like a high end machine should. I only wish it had the differential lock on it, but for less than half the price of a comparable unit that has this, I can survive without that. Of particular note is that this unit has the 810cc 28hp XRD B&S engine, not sure why the specs here say 725cc. Anyway this thing is a beast even if it does resemble a bumble bee. I haven't used any other attachments on the machine yet... but I have confidence this machine can handle whatever I throw at it in that way....

I have mowed 3 plus acres 3 times so far this year. To start with I got the tractor home on a very cold and rainy day and it started rite up. I gave my cub cadet to my daughter and i must say this tractor is built much stronger than the cub. it mowes even and with a 54 inch cut took 3 hours off my mowing time. My lawn looks much better using this mower. Only thing that went wrong so far was a broke spring in a grease plug, took 2 minutes to replace.
We pick up the tractor and I found it a little funny that they pushed this thing onto the trailer and didn't even start it to make sure it ran. Of course, after stopping at the local gas station and filling the tank, I get it home and try to start it, following the instruction manual to the letter and it wont start. It just cranks and cranks, but no fire. The first thing I do, since I spent the extra $500.00 on the warranty, is call the service number, and they read from the book, the exact things, I just did. I understand that sometimes people overlook things when they get a new product and don't know how to use it. After learning that I did everything exactly how I was supposed to, they told me it would be 5 days before they could get a Service Tech to my home. Very disappointed with the Service and not really impressed with they way they treat their customers. The tractor itself, looks beautiful, and the quality (other than it DOESN'T RUN)looks very good. All in all, I cant tell if this......
