I purchased the PYT 9000 Craftsman Professional Lawn Tractor to replace a 12 year old craftsman tractor that needed a lot of work. To begin with, the first time I tried to start this tractor it took at least 2 minutes to start. I found out that the throttle cable was not adjusted correctly and the choke did not work. I adjusted the cable and fixed the problem.

The hood bounces all over the place while mowing and the seat cutoff switch is too sensitive. If you choose to purchase this tractor please buy wheel weights for traction. I have a small hill in my yard. I can't go up it because of wheel spins. Problems my 12 year old Craftsman tractor did not have.

On the other hand the power is good, transmission and mowing is great. when I work out the wheel spin, the hood bounce and the seat switch problems I hope I stop missing my old tractor

We purchased our PYT 9000 Memorial Day weekend at our local Sears Hometown Store. It was delivered on June 6th. Although this tractor is very thirsty I like the power and the shortl turning radius. We have about 2 1/2 acres of bumpy, hilly ground to mow. HOWEVER on August 7th with just 10.9 hours of running time the tractor stopped and wouldn't go forward or backwards. I opened the hydostatic relief valve and my wife and I pushed it up the hill and back to the house.

On August 9th I went back to Sears and asked for some help. The people there called for service and they were advised the earliest anyone could look at my new $2,000 tractor that wouldn't move was 22 days- on August 31st.On top of that they can't even tell me what time anyone will actually show up. They gave me a 4-hour 'window' of between 8:00 a.m. and noon. ('Nothing like taking 4 unpaid hours off from work to wait on someone.)

We bought the PYT 9000 to replace our 12-year old Craftsman that was on it's last legs. This tractor...

We bought this tractor to take care of our lawn of about 1.25 acres. It arrived a little late, delivery guys were having a bad day but they did call multiple times to explain being late and when they'd be here. After a very quick "this is your tractor" monologue from the delivery man and they were off, trying to get done for the day. I looked the rig over, broke out the manual and checked the tire pressures and lowered them all. After checking the oil, general bolt inspection and checking the deck for level, which it was, I added fresh gas and it fired right up. It was kind of late in the day by then, like about 4PM, so I didn't get to mow the whole lawn that day. Snce then I've mowed every week for the last three weeks and the tractor has performed very well. Our lawn is more weeds than grass, but after its cut it looks very good. Cutting height is very consistent even though the ground isn't all that level and even. It does tend to "spin" the tires when making tight...

It seems my first review about a week ago never appeared, so here I go again. I bought the PTY 9000 on July 31 of '09. Lucky for me they had one on the showroom floor, so it saved time on waiting for shipping and setup. It's been about 2 weeks, and 20 hours now, and this has got to be the best Craftsman I've ever owned, as I have owned 3 Craftsman’s in the last 25 years. I have about 5 acres and used to mow about 2 of them, but now I've cut and cleaned the other 3 with the PTY 9000 and now keep up all five acres. Long grass? This is not a problem with this mower. It is a MULE with wheels. If you can afford the extra dollars over the regular series with compatible power and cutting size, do it, it's worth it. I have only 2 quirks, one was the steering wheel was not straight, but I just popped off the cap and took off the nut and turned it to the proper position and that was that, took less than 5 minutes. The other is the seat safety switch is too sensitive as I'm only 5'6 and 150lbs,...

I purchased my PYT 9000 a month ago and it is a great mower except for a few Quirks. I leveled the deck but when I adjusted the wheels for cutting I ran into a problem. The old DYT 4000 had deck wheels on a pinned sliding shaft. The PYT 9000 has brackets with holes for wheel heigth. When you try to adjust the wheels to #3 setting the wheels hit the deck and won't turn. The safety seat switch is to sensative. You have a problem leaning on a grade and you are mowing on rough terrain the bouncing causes the engine to shut off. If you weigh 300 lbs. it may be OK but that is expensive to keep that weight. Happy mowing!...

I am pleased with this mower. However, I'll let you know that it drinks gas. Also if you turn too sharp the front tires have a tendency to slide. It could use a place to put things, not just a drink holder. The turning is like having power steering. It cuts well and the blades are quieter when mowing. Has lots of speed and stamina....

I needed to replace my 43 year old John Deere with something that didn't need tinkering all of the time. We searched online to find a mower with enough horsepower to handle our hilly lawn. So far so good - just check your tire pressure before you start ... the tires say inflate to 10 PSI, mine were at 20 PSI....
