elderauto says "Tractor cab decent for the money, but wrinkled vinyl is lousy" about Craftsman Tractor Cab

I live in northern Idaho and purchased this cab for my DGT6000 with the Craftsman 2-stage snowblower about two months ago. Overall I am happy with the device, and it's really nice not having the snow from the snowblower cover you when clearing the driveway.

The tube frame is relatively stout and it installed on my tractor easily and fits well, like it was made for my specific model. The DGT6000 is a large tractor (for Sears) and I can see how it would feel bulky and not fit well on some of the smaller ones. So far, the lack of a back cover does not really bother me.

There are a couple of things that need to be resolved however. The front support is cheesy and should be something more in line with the rest of the frame design. The elastic clips on the bottom seem a little weak, but so far they do hold. The two things that really bother me though are that the cab roof canvas is loose so it has a tendency to make a small shelf that holds snow and water (read ice) if left outside. Also,...
...

Easy to put together. It did not strap tight to the mower. Had to strap it under the mower to the frame. Had to strap the back two straps together behind the seat. Front mounting rod gets in the way of engaging the unit. Hard to see out the wrinkles in the plastic.
...

This cab is a good idea, but the way it was put together lacks thought. Sears could have made a much better product. The hooks on the bottom do not stay fastened, the cab has no back, and they were cheap with the hardware. They did not supply bolts for where the brakets attach, you need to use the original spring bolts which are too short. This took most of the time for the assembly. I needed to buy longer bolts that would actually work. Once I bought the correct sized bolts everything went pretty easy as far as assembly is concerned. They also did not package the required adhesive pads, the front support rod is flimsy and was not properly spot welded. The cab itself is good quality vinyl, but the clear part is a little blurry with some wrinkling making it diffucult to see out of. I just installed this product and have not used it in a storm yet, but from what i already see I am somewhat dissapointed. Sears was cheap with the little things on this one!! and needs to make the necessary...
...

I like mine. I put it on in October and use it late fall and early spring. Its too expensive.
The plastic windows are tricky to. When I open it up in the fall, the wrickles are there to stay.
But I use it for clean up late in the fall and just after the winter so just having it there to block the wind is nice....

The Craftsman Lawn Tractor cab is all that it was said to be. I ordered the cab through my local Sears store. I am a person who likes to save money by doing things for myself. When the cab arrived, I imediately spread the parts out on the garage floor beside my lawntractor. I read the instructions which said to put it together in the steps as they were listed. From the start to finish, everything went together perfectly in about 45 minutes. I used the cab all winter without a problem. Being a person who likes to try to make things better, I made a back window to help stop the wind from coming in the back of the cab. The back of the cab was left open to avoid carbonmonoxide poisoning, but my window has enough air leaks to allow plenty of ventilation.

The only "con" that I have is the way the soft cover was packaged. It was wadded up so the clear plastic windows are all permanetly wrinkled which makes it hard to see.
...

Excellent buy, would purchase again! I should have bought it 2 yrs ago when I purchased my lawn tractor! It fit on my Husqvarna with hardly no problems. This cab does exactly what it's supposed to do. It keeps the snow off of my face and keeps my legs dry. It cuts the wind down as well. If your expecting more, then spend the money and buy the Briggs and Stratton cab for alot more $.

I've had this cab for 2 months and have used it over 8 hrs. various wind/snow conditions. The canvas cab that draps over the tubular frame is made of a strong material and the clear plastic also seems tough enough to last 5+ Winters if I'm careful with it, i.e. stay away from those branches hanging down, etc. It does have some wrinkles but I hardly notice them when blowing snow. It is a little tricky to get into and using the controls took awhile to get used to but after an hr, I realized I hadn't felt a bit of snow on my face or legs! Extremely pleased and would buy again!!...

Yorker3rd says "Tractor Cab- Needs design review" about Craftsman Tractor Cab

I bought this as part of the floor model display attached to the GT5000. Getting ready for the winter, my wife thought it was a great thing to get being that it was on clearance. To tell you the truth I was skeptical about how cumbersome it looked but figured I mine as well try it. After all the other preparation for pushing snow, installing the blade, installing the chains and weights, I assembled the cab which was pretty straightforward. My first concern while manuevering around as a test was that it was cumbersome to lift and adjust the blade with-out constantly pushing the canvas around. Most importantly, it's major flaw is that I can't see the snow blade since the plastic window seems to be designed to show visibility straight ahaed and not down.

I don't know about others but I would like to see what the blade is doing. I also find on my country driveway that I need to be able to quickly adjust the blade around. Unused it is being returned this week. Would probably benefit anyone...
...

FloodControl says "Not bad but needs a lot of work (that's what she said)" about Craftsman Tractor Cab

This is a good idea to have, which is why I bought it, but like the other reviewers stated there is no back to it which seems very strange for a winter/snow cab.

The tractor cab went together per the instructions so no big problems there. They should have included longer replacement bolts for the seat springs since the brackets take away a good quarter inch of thread, it's way too easy to strip the sheet metal. It's a sturdy frame design, except for the front support - a horrible and stupid design for that brace. The flap that goes under the hood lays on top of the battery, I can't believe they designed that on purpose. I'm envisioning all the things that need improvement and coming up with ways to fix this, as are many others in the comments here.

The issue now is how incredibly wrinkled the cab came out of the box and the instructions give no clues how to get the wrinkles out.

Does anyone know how to flatten out all the wrinkles without destroying the cab? (a real question...
...

After reading other reviews, I decided to go with this cab knowing full well that I would have to do some modifications to it to meet my expectations. So I haven't run into anything that wasn't expected. The frame and cover both seem reasonably well made for the money and everything went together as described in the owner's manual. It was a pretty easy assembly. I wanted to get it in and put together while it was still warm so I could decide on and make the modifications that I was pretty sure that I was going to want. I think that was a good decision.

As expected after reading other reviews, it is virtually impossible to use the manual PTO clutch on my YTS 3000 with the front support in place as designed. That wasn't a huge deal to alter but this cab and the manual clutch tractors have both been out long enough for some genius to figure out that there is a design problem and FIX IT ! ! ! But they haven't. It shouldn't take much more than a few different bends in the...
...

It does keep snow and wind off you most of the time, too bad you can't drive into wind all the time. Clips that hold it in place keeps moving, the left hand controls for the snowblower does not operated easily in the cab. My BIG PROBLEM with the unit on my DYS4500 is you can not engage the snowblower unless you move the support that holds up the front of the cab. The clutch arm is 3 inches too long, it can not pass the support unless you move the support or else it pops up the hood on the tractor and the support falls on the battery - VERY BAD design. Bottom of support needs tape on it or else it scratches your tractor. Support needs to be redesigned, there are other existing places on the tractor that the cab support could attached, to get rid of this problem. I contacted department manager and showed him the problem. He agreed it was a problem and he would contact manufacturer about it and would get back to me - no responce. I went to store again and was told he was not in yet but would......

I put this on my 2006 LT1000 which I use with snowblower. The mounting hardware which supposed to be "universal" did not fit the hole pattern on my tractor. I think Craftsman had changed hole locations beneath the seat. After spending several hours modding and fabricating I was able to install it. It does the job nicely but getting into the drivers seat is a bit tricky. Still benefit of being warm and dry is much higher then minor inconvenience or install problem. I agree with other reviewer that it is a bit overpriced and there is a definite need for rear clear door to keep snow from blowing in....

The Snow Cab is great, as for quality, I think it's as good as can be, the material is durable enough for what it is intended.
I don't have to put on my bib pants anymore and as a senior citizen, I enjoy clearing the driveway again. I've even added an amber dome light to it for safety and a piece of clear vinyl to cover the back. GREAT ECCESSORY....
