This unit works when fully charged, but then won't hold a charge more than a few days when stored. It makes a horrible high pitched noise until it finally charges again - anybody know how to make it stop the noise.
...

We are full time RVers. We bought this product in Aug of 2010 from Sears and followed chargng instructions to the letter. We need it to jump our tow vehicle. It is now April of 2011 and we are traveling cross country. We used it once. The charger first charged up to 100% but now it won't go above 98%. In addition, the alarm is going off and it won't stop, even when battery is charging. I called tech support and they told me to cut the alarm wire because it is "probably faulty". (Note: they are not avalable on week-ends so if the problem happens then, you are SOL.) We don't want to disable anything that the manufacterer felt was necessary. Also, why should we have to take the item apart. The charger is not even a year old!!!! We can't even find where the alarm wire is because there is not a diagram. We need somethig dependable and need informed technical support. I am very disappointed in product and in Sears for selling it.
...

Bought the DieHard Portable Power 950 to power camping accessories and for the occasional jump-start. Worked okay for the first several months, then would discharge very rapidly (for example, the light would go dim after only 30 minutes). Within the first year, it would no longer charge past 65%, despite my carefully charging it after every use and avoiding deep discharges. I bought the unit for well above what the competing units cost, believing the float charge feature would give it long life, but it actually failed faster than cheapy no-name wall-wart-charger power packs I previously owned. Tried to buy a replacement battery for it, but found that would cost over $60, and I'm not sure that the charging circuitry isn't faulty. I've got a whole bunch of Craftsman tools in my Craftsman tool chest, not to mention a few Kenmore appliances, but the DieHard Portable Power 950 really blackens the name and reputation of Sears in my mind. Poor quality and expensive to boot.
...

(And) like all rechargeable devices it will only except a limited amount of charges. i have had this unit for little over a year, and now it will not except a charge. (Update) the New Model for 2009 has a removable Battery for the reason mine doesn't work anymore....

I love this thing! It works very well ! Before buying I had read the other, generally negative reviews , so I was pleasantly surprised when it greatly exceeded my expectations. I take it tent camping and have used it to run 12v coffee maker , dvd player , laptop , air pump, and satellite radio. I once left my car lights on for 3 days, leaving my battery dead as a door nail. This charger cranked it right over and in the 20 sec it took me to get out of the car to disconnect, it had recharged itself to 100% from the alternator! Wonderful product !!...

I bought this starter unit and plugged it in. It charged in a short time to 100%. I bought it with the idea of using it to power an inverter. I found that it has no raw power. It must be jumped over a partually dischrged battery or it doesn't work at all. It would be a much better and more practical unit if it had a power switch instead of the fancy circuitry. If someone would steal your battery and you had this unit, it woyuld be worthless for starting your car. Will not power an inverter. I'm sure it would perform well if just used for jump starting....

Stick with the standard units that don't try to be clever and end up outsmarting themselves....

Mine lasted about a year (used for 3 car battery charges). Worked fine for those charges, but now it's uncharged, and can't be recharged. After two days of trying to recharge it, it hasn't held any charge. The instructions say it may take 3 days, but after 2 days, it should be above 0. Yes, the numeral light is on, so I know it's hooked to a working outlet. The light above the digital display no longer works either....

I highly recommend this Jump Starter and DC power source. I have had it four months, and it holds a charge so that it is always ready for use. I like the dual lamps and dual 12V DC power outlets on the front. The outlets are live all the time, and provide 15A with automatic circuit breaker. The jumper cables are sufficiently long enough at 24 inches, to be useful. I have used the unit a couple of times already to jump start a vehicle, and it did the job amazingly well. It is really convenient to just open the hood, connect the booster jumper cables, and have your car start right up! It has a nice digital display on the front to indicate when the unit is fully charged, and a test switch to display the charge level. The only drawback to this unit is that it is not really a battery replacement. There is no raw power to the jumper cables. It has some intelligent circuitry to detect the presence of a weak battery before 12V DC is applied to the jumper cables....

ask sales rep what model to buy for my boat 5.7 EFI as I did not want to get stuck on the water with my 2 small children. The first time I had an occassion to need to use it I was let down. With my auxcillary battery drained from on board appliances (as it should have been) and my starter battery was strong yet did not start my boat. I placed the 990 in line with nthe highest expectations and it did not start the boat! ever!
Got home and even after placing on charge for 2w days and checking the charge....not once did it move above 85%. Will return it tomorrow and hopefully it will be acceptede as it is only about 4-6 weeks (that's right weeks) old. I will buy one with greatewd push amps. Why another sears product....becaus of their "no bull" return policy....I hope!...

I bought Diehard Portable Power 950 two months ago. My first try was so good even my old pickup truck which was not use for a long time started it when I jump start. One click my truck started. Four days ago, my truck didn't start again so I recharged the Diehard power jump starter. Next day, I checked if it was ready for jump start but the charging level was still 50 percent, so I waited for another day and checked again same thing the jump starter was still not charge. I waited again for two days but stll the level wasn't moving. Today, I checked again but still not charging so I decided to return the jumper for refund. It was very fraustrating. After I refunded the money, I went to Costco wholesale and buy the Wagna Portable Power Jumper 600. I tried it today and it works. I hope it will last for a long time....

My problem ~ maintaining a rare convertible that I hardly ever drive. The fact that it gets little use causes its battery to discharge over time. My usual remedy, when I do have somewhere to go, is to pull/push the vehicle out of the garage, and have a neighbor pull along side to jump start it.

This powerful 950 saves me the trouble. It enables me, with very little effort, to immediately start the car, even when the battery has done a Lazarus!

Easy to use. Recharges in home using a standard wall outlet. There's even an accessory you can purchase called a male-to-male cable (item # 38-99-000834), which allows you to recharge the 950 while driving from the vehicle's 12V accessory outlet. ( a cigarette lighter, or the like.)

An exceptional product!...
