Basically buy meat and other Items on sale custom packages and freeze

The new ones have a moist setting so liquid doesnt get sucked into the vacuum part of the machine still becareful with it I get around the liquid limitation by freezing the liquid first in an appropriately sized container. Once frozed solid, I pop it out & vac bag it. I like to freeze the meat that I buy on sale in some sort of marinade so that when it's thawed it's ready to go. It's a little messy, but if you're doing a bunch of meat at once it's a single clean up. I have a Food Saver, with the on board storage for a roll & with an on board "slicer" to cut the bag from the roll. I really like it. It does have a large footprint, however. It's best to keep the thing out on the counter if you can so that you will use it more.

It is worth every penny!!!...

bezimmer says "FoodSaver Brand - Think ahead..." about Foodsaver Vacuum Foodsaver Advanced Design

I owned a FoodSaver (Vac550) for over 10 years and got very reliable service out of it. As noted here all FoodSaver bags and accessories are expensive, but what burns me is the availability of parts. Mine had to be replaced because a three buck gasket isn't sold by the manufacturer. I thought this was due to its age, but lo and behold, many current models HAVE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS available on their website - the particular model (V2420) shown here has only the upper gasket for sale, but it's way more rugged than the lower gasket - I cannot image it would ever wear out... Go figure. This is bizarre and can only be for one reason - the manufacturer considers them throw-away appliances. I have now purchased a competing Kenmore, even though I had to throw away perfectly good FoodSaver brand bags (no they are not interchangable).

Operation Hints - FWIW: Obsess about the cleanliness of the gaskets - if they are dirty (even small specs of stuff) the bags won't want to seal. ...
...

This is my third sealer and all did not last because of a two cent strip of tape that customer service will not make available. They do offer a new machine at 25% off. Can do better than that at local merchants.
...

I love my food saver. My husband & I use it regularly. I do suggest getting a extended if offered. We had to replace ours right after the warranty was up. No auguring about replacing it. We have saved a lot of money buying meats on sale (and or in bulk) and vacuum sealing it ASAP. I vacuum seal everything from nuts to powdered sugar (in a canister). I have also sealed some of my coin collection.
...

Foodsaver vacuum bags and plastic rolls work great. I prefer the rolls because you can customize the size you need. I have not found out how much time they extend the amount of time you can keep meat in the freezer because I have never opened a package that was bad. Some of it has been over two years old but you would never know it. I have used it a lot when buying chicken, ground chuck, steaks and other meats when on sale. Foodsaver alows us to take advantage of items on sale and buying in bulk. I use them when I process my venison, also.
...

I wanted a sealer for a while but was not sure which one. All the stores had several on display but I never bought. I seen the Food Saver action on TV one day and saw everything it could do and I was hooked. I bought the Food Saver and it became my favorite kitchen toy. I was opening things just to reseal them. Features like moist food seal and crushable food seal make the Food Saver one of the best ever. you don't have to worry about sucking juices up into the machine or crushing fragile foods like cookies. Also Food Saver has accesories you can get to use with it and they are very handy too.
...

Ok .. our last foodsaver (the 550 model which is probably about 10 years old) finally bit the dust a couple weeks back. We bought one of the "newest" models that sits upright (for lack of better words), where you have to put the bag in the front slot to seal it. Well, what a pain. I really preferred my older model without all the gadgets, bells and whistles so I returned that one and looked around for a not so new model. We ended up purchasing ours on line *******, but Sams has the same type) and it is a model V2830. We have loved it from the moment we took it from the box and started using it. It works in the similar fashion as our old model), sitting down on the counter and you have to lift the lid to fit the bags in the canal to make or seal the bag. The overflow chamber is easy to remove and simple to clean. You have control of starting the machine and can stop it if you want to, to avoid crushing delicate foods. We keep ours on the counter and pretty much use it daily. Anytime...
...
