Scrabble has been around for years and most people will have an idea of how it's played. If not everyone is on the same level, pair up the players or have an open game where anyone who needs help just asks for it and don't worry so much about the score. It's about having a good time, and it does help keep up your memory for words.

Scrabble is a game that is in the upper eschalon of family games. We love playing this along with Yahtzee every year and it can't be beat by the online version. Scrabble is also great for our older kids and allows them to learn words while the adults get to challenge each others supposed 'words.' :)

Some of my very favorite childhood memories were of playing Scrabble with my brothers and sisters when I was younger. All of my siblings were much older and smarter than I, so I felt a huge sense of empowerment and accomplishment when I was able to beat them at this game. But the very best thing about this game is that you're almost never too young to play and almost never too old. I bought a new Scrabble game when my youngest child was four years old and just learning to read and we would even "make up" different rules to play by, like trying to "match up" words from the books they were reading, or as they got older, getting extra points by trying to use their spelling words from school that week. The possibilities are nearly endless. But if you think it's just for kids, you'd be wrong. Recently my sister came to visit. She is in her 50's and I am in my 40's and we had the best time bringing the Scrabble board back out and going at it. Did I mention that we're very competitive? It's time......

This is one of our favorite games to play with the kids. It gets them wanting to learn new words, and letting them keep score lets them practice addition without realizing it. It's also fun with all adults - simple to learn, but takes a lifetime to master, and no game is ever the same. This classic game has a quality board, and the wooden playing pieces will last forever. This game has been around for a very long time for very good reasons - it's a great game for the whole family to play together!

Many board games are a hit and miss attempt to win and often winners are lucky at rolling dice or other non talent based procedures. This one is different. This is yet another board game that has stood the ages but Scrabble is different because half of the ability to win is based in an individuals vocabulary and knowledge of words. As kids we often laughed and even fought to insist something was a word. We brought out the dictionary to prove truths and in the process we educated others and learned from others. Now with the grandkids we are humbled by their schooling and intellegence. It is a great sense of pride for us to watch their minds work and we often ask what a word means just to witness them demonstrate their achievements. Scrabble can also be an adult only game and as such can still be a learning vehicle. It never ceases to amaze at what transpires in each game. We are grateful for Scrabble being another tool enabling us to interact verbally with the grandkids and to have......

I live in a Care Facility. Playing Scrabble makes me and the others I play with think. It's nice to know that the old brain still works. (And I'm not that old!) It's really facinating what words people come up with, word you might have forgotten. It's just nice to know I can still remember.

We try to play a couple of games as a family every weekend. Recently our eight year old son asked if he was old enough to play Scrabble so we gave it a try. Him and our six year old really have alot of fun playing. Of course their words are small : on, it, him.. but I find it very educational for them. It helps with their vocabulary and really makes them think. Me and my husband have played Scrabble together for as long as I can remember and it never gets old. It is a game where the score is always so close that you never know who will win, until someone gets that one huge word and the game gets competitive!! We started out with the basic cardboard board and just recently upgraded to the set that has the plastic board that is on a platform that spins. The board is also graphed off so that each tile sits in its own little spot and the tiles don't move around on the board. I highly suggest this version when playing with kids.

Three of my children (ages 8, 9 and 10) are fascinated by Scrabble online, so I dusted off the box and showed them OLD SCHOOL scrabble. They love it. At this point, their spelling abilities and creativity melding words isn't exactly up to a great Scrabble game, but they're trying and they're spelling.

I LOVE that they're playing with letters, moving them around and seeing how they go together and how to change one word into another. It's like an English Teacher's dream.

I WORRY that the tiles are going to get lost as they pass the fine line between amusing themselves by spelling and amusing themselves using the tiles for tiddly winks. :D

Overall, I think it's a great way to spend time with slightly older elementary school kids and up.

This is the class edition of scrabble. Meaning, you get what you pay for.

You get a paper board that folds in 2. So the tiles can scatter easily.

Not a bad idea because sometimes in the other deluxe editionso of scrabble (and I have several, even the CD and the Travel scrabble), the tiles can get stuck into the spaces.

But it's SCRABBLE and as a person who has formed a lifelong love affair with reading, I LOVE THIS GAME.

IT is fun and it's educational.

Don't forget to buy your latest scrabble dictionary or use a regular one!

This is a great game wo play with family and friends. It can last a long time and we always have alot of fun playing it. Sometimes we come up with words that don't exsist in teh dictionary, which can be really funny. I recommend this game to everyone.

This may be the most basic of the Scrabble sets available, but it is fun all the same. My 12yr old daughter loves to play this with me. She also took it to the local nursing home and played with a woman who lives there. There was even a Srabble club at her school for awhile. Anyone who enjoys reading and expanding their vocabulary will love this game.

We let my 8year old son play as well and he is getting better. I can tell you from experience that the day a child finishes with a higher score than a parent for the first time is a huge deal.

Our family loves board games. Hasbro Scrabble Classic Edition is one of the most educational games anyone can play. We began playing Scrabble with our daughters when they were very young. We would play with them according to their understanding of words and are delighted at the rate they have progressed over the years. The delight in their faces when they figure out new words is a true joy to us all. We have purchased several Scrabble games as gifts and have found that this is a game everyone loves.
