We love our Holmes 1746, but the tank cap gasket deteriorated--I mean it eventually turned to mush. The replacement price is high ($4.50?! plus $3.99 shipping?!...c'mon!). Other than that we really like it. Is there some special way to lengthen the life of the cap gasket? If so, please send a shout out. If not, please improve product.

It's easy to set up. It's easy to maintain. It goes a very good job of humidifying a living room in a typical city condo. That's where I've got mine. Also the filters seem easy to find and aren't too expensive.

My wife wanted to have a humidifier in our bedroom for our newborn baby. We bought it at Sears a month or two before his birth. It has been working fine. In the instructions, they advise about minimizing/avoiding mildew build-up, due to the use of water in the humidifier machinery. So far, I try to carefully rinse the water container & lid when I refill with fresh cold tap water. In the 3-4 months of winter since we bought it, there is maybe a slight mildewy smell only. In the summer it might be worse, but we probably won't need it then & can turn it off & empty all water & let it dry! One cautionary word is that the water container is hard brittle (but beautiful) clear plastic. It dropped while filling once in the bathtub, & it cracked. Sears kindly replaced it immediately.

The humidifier effect in our bedroom is noticeable & comfortable. I've never demanded this comfort before, but agree that the air is more comfortable this winter. We close the door to maximize...

I am a winter sinus suffer. I need relief, especially at night. Iould not breathe and the snoring would keep my husband awake.

. I brought a Holmes Humidifier-Cool Mist HM1746 put in the bedroom. I just turn on the Humidifier, no more snoring, clear nasal passages.

Now I had found another way to make my husband happy in bed.

I have also purchase one for my mother, sister, daughter and granddaughter.
