Hoosiers is a movie about a high school basket ball team, its players, coaches and other intertwined lives. It is set in an earlier day before Nike' and Reebok as evidenced by the P.F. Flyer and Converse athletic shoes. Team uniforms then were also a generic short and tank top compared to modern knee length pants, shoes and tops.

This team has talent they don't know they have and a new coach with a somewhat disgraced past comes to town and quickly finds traditions run deep and that fighting the town is more work than fighting the team.

In this era of time prejudices were common and strong and often violent. The coach must mesh players into working together despite these opinions and focus the team solely on their ability on the court. Along the way he also fights his reputation, drunk fathers and a town set in its ways and the rebellion they openly demonstrate.

Through the course of this movie you see that forgiveness, encouragement, love and restoration can often lift people to new heights...

Gene Hackman in his absolute prime. I'll follow Hackman anywhere in a movie! This inspirational movie is a sports classic. I love the suspense watching the team go through its tribulations. A great sports movie with so many emotional turns is hard to make but this is one of the greats in that genre.

this is one of the best basketball movies i have ever watched. i recommend this movie as a must see...

Hoosiers is probably one of the best sports movies made. It is much more than sports. It has lessons in acceptance, redemption and forgiveness. Gene Hackman does a great job as the coach looking for a second chance....

The forerunner to so many modern sports-formula movies, Hoosiers started and perfected the genre. The superb acting (Hackman, Hopper), the down-home genuineness of the setting and characters, the believable tension, and the wonderful score make this a film not to be missed....
