On the Ingersol Rand site, this compressor is noted as being rated for 100% operation, i.e. running all the time, 2000 hours a year. If they are willing to list it like that, I gotta think in most shops it will never wear out. I bough it for spraying finishes (HVLP) and it's worked admirably. The other thing I really like after having the compressor for a few years is that it's /quiet/. Not like a whisper, but much softer than oil-free designs. Just be sure to change the oil and the air filter ocasionally. Plus, the tank is big enough that for a lot of applications - nail guns, e.g. - the motor doesn't have to kick in that often. It's big and heavy enough that I don't want to move it, but the wheels make it possible to do so from time to time. If you don't need that portability, you can get a lot more compressor for not too much more money in the larger stationary model. Also, the upright design gie it a small footprint, which is a plus in my work area.......
