The Kenmore AC works grerat love having a remote and energy cycle too. I don't need to run it very long to have my whole room down to a comfort zone. It was easy to install, I have a bigger window that the meterials given in box so I got a piece of glass cut and it fit in the frame so it is so safe I don't worry about breakins. I think this product is great and I love that the bottom has ridges that lays on the tracks nicely....

I'm very conscious of saving energy, and this Kenmore air-conditioner keeps my home cool on the hottest days of summer yet offers money-saving settings that keep the costs manageable. I waited years to get an air-conditioner, but I'm glad I finally decided to stop sweating the hottest days of summer.

I'm considering getting another smaller model for an additional room when the budget permits the purchase.
...

Shopped Sears online last night and found this unit, which is the only window unit that would fit my windows. Drove over to Sears at 8:00 PM in 93 degree weather, purchased this unit at full price. The box was strapped like a new product, however, after I hoisted it out of my car, onto a dolly and wheeled it to the window where I wanted to install it, I cut the straps and the box fell apart. It had been previously cut open. ARGH! All the packing materials fell away and I thought....ah shucks! (Or something like that.) But I decided since I'd already come that far, and all I needed to do at this point was to hoist it up into the window, I did just that. Plugged it in, and the fan immediately started to blow! The temp was already set for 60 degrees, so, thinking...YIPPEE! I'm gonna have cold air right away...I went about reading the owner's manual. Uh oh. When you first turn it on, it's supposed to be set for 72 degrees. So I shut it off, and wait the required three minutes, and then turn...
...

Bought this unit a couple of days ago. It's a work horse! I bought it in desperation because of the recent heatwave. I live in an A frame home with large windows that are in direct sunlight all day long. It is currently trying to cool 800+ sq ft. including what is going into our basement. It has done a very good job! It doesn't stay cold in here but it's keeping the humidity down. I have another 12000 Btu portable in the mail to take care of the cold issue. It's easy to install. At this point I have no complaints as the ice cold air blows on me as I type this review. AWESOME!!!
...

On 5/07/2010, I purchased online this AC in good faith. It started off that UPS delivered the product late, and the box that contained the product was damaged, and obviously repacked and taped to begin with. Once the box was open, the screws and bracket assemblies were out of their orginal packaging containers, the bottom, the weatherproofing had been used and repackaged, and the lower rt corner of this unit cracked aas well as other defects were noted. It was very obvious that this unit had been sent to someones house before, they didn't like it, and returned it to Sears. So in essence, I had received either an unwanted or refurbished unit, when originally I ordered a new one. I did call Sears and got a price adjustment on this unit, but the principle remains, Sears sent not a new unit out as ordered, but tried to pull a fast one by sending out an obviously used one, yes, when upacked and then returned, and then sent out again, it does become used.

I don't know how the unit will perform....
...

The Kenmore 11500 BTU Casmement Window AC unit makes all the difference on these hot muggy Indiana summer days! We live in a 1 bedroom apartment building built in 1929 that has the swing-out casement style windows. Summer days with the sun beating in are murder without some kind of cooling solution. We had to improvise and construct a wooden support structure in order to install this unit. Once that was done and we turned the unit on, the cool air started gushing out. What a relief! Not only does it cool the apartment down to near-chilly levels on 89 degree days, it also reduces humidity down from almost 70% to under 50%. Got a great deal on this AC in the store with an "open box" purchase.
...

We have a brick tudor that was built in 1929. In the summer it can get quite hot. However, to install central air would be a very costly expense. In the main room there are hinged windows that normally would not be able to contain an air conditioner. We do have one small window that I kept looking at and finally measured and the dimensions were good to go. So, we purchased this unit. Installed it quickly and it works amazingly well! Our entire first floor is cooled! We have a regular window unit in the kitchen (10500 btu), so between the two it has been heaven. I love the look of this unit, which is why I chose it over the Frigidaire. Of course the fact that it is a Sears name helped. Almost all of our appliances were purchased at Sears. We know we can trust whatever they put out!...

So, this is my third LG Casement window AC unit in 5 years.

The first one's compressor died within 3 years, but I blame my house wiring on that one. I had that corrected. $700 gone.

I purchased this model two years ago, and the electical fan's bearing's "howled" after one year of use. It was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. $300 Gone (I bought it from another retailer).

So, I bought this one from Sears (LG rebranded as a Kenmore), and bought the full in house repair warranty for five years. That added $200 to the bill. $700 again for AC, makes it expensive.. but I had a feeling I was going to be using the warranty.

And I was right.. the fan motor is seized up after sitting over the winter. Luckily, Sears stands behind their products and I am sure they will repair/replace the unit.

As an additional note, I use this unit a LOT. I am always circulating air from the outside to the inside with the fan (9 months out of the year..), and the AC is running for about 6 - 7 of those......

Okay. Our house, which is great, was built as a custom home by someone who was into contemporary design but at the same time was a "naturalist" or something. Anywho, we ended up with this gorgeous contemporary with tall casment windows and no air conditioning. We fougt the heat for several years, but with a new baby, we knew we needed AC no matter the cost. I just on a whim did a search and stumbled across these units. We ordered a 6,000 for our bedroom, and loft area, a 11,500 for our great room, and our kitchen window was wide enough for a standard unit. Anyway, installation was a "breeze" they all work great, and the cost is really reasonable. Our electric bill only increased a couple of dollars each month! Summer is over now and we have easily removed the units, stored them in closets, and are at ease knowing next year will be just as cool! One thing is, on this unit, I wish the fan had a bit more power. However, I am sure the openness of the great room has something to do with it.......

I purchased a portable air-conditioner a couple of years ago and while it cools the bedroom nicely it never quite cooled the living/dining area, which is a continuous space separated by an archway. Some of my neighbors have casement air conditioners, and I noticed their apartments were cool and comfortable in the Summer. I was inspired to buy this unit due to a deferred financing and discounted-price offer and, most importantly, because of the record heat wave we're having here.

Although the product description is for a slider/casement window, I was able to fit it nicely (with a bit of ingenuity) in a steel-framed crank-out-style casement window. Total installation time took about 3 hours due to some trial and error. I installed it myself but was very careful when lifting the unit into place.

The unit looks good once installed and runs quietly. It cooled a two-room area of about 450 sq. ft. considerably in about 1/2 hour after being heated all day on the hottest day of the year. In researching......

Vertical window sliders limited our choices for AC units and, since we had a Sears card, figured we could use the special finance rates for appliances. So off to the Appliances Dept. at Sears to get this 11,500 BTU unit for our living room/dining room. However, the sales person told us that AC units did not qualify for the special Sears card financing since they are not considered appliances. Due to the limited availability of vertical AC units, we bit the bullet, although the mandatory restocking fee for any AC returns did cause trepidation. A solid installation definitely requires hardware skills but a basic installation is easy for most. We fired up the unit but felt little cooling power so we figured the first time around would take longer to cool down. A few days later the unit still didn't provide enough cooling, so we scheduled a Sears technician for a service call. Since we installed the unit, the technician said we would have to remove it ourselves before he could work on it, so......

I live in an apartment that faces south and receives lots of sun. It can get unbearable at times. Due to window design, this was the perfect choice. Installing a window unit correctly is never fun. With a little patience and some help to lift the unit it took under 1 hour. My favorite feature is the progamming mode. If I know it is going to get hot and I will not be home, I can program the timer to come on at a certain time to cool the apartment while I am away. This saves energy and me having to return to a baked apartment. I would definately recomend this unit. The first heat way of the summer is coming and I am looking forward to a much cooler and pleasant apartment....

I have an 800sq ft cabin that sits atop poles (in the flood plain of a creek). This is a heating and cooling challenge due to the fact that the floor faces the same kind of exposure as the walls. The cabin has full afternoon sun exposure and gets toasted in the summer heat. Anyway, I installed two of these units and use a pair of small floor fans to keep the air circulating throughout the cabin. The units run smoothly and effectively cool and dehumidify the cabin to whatever temp. I set them too.
My only beef at all is with the extra money you pay for a slider unit such as this. If you are thinking of upgrading your windows any time soon you might want to think about switching to a double-hung window and enjoy the luxury of paying about half for a similarly powered AC unit to fit the new window opening.
-Cheers...

I have a 400 square foot room and it cools the room very fast, give it a half hour and it is very cool. The remote is handy and makes late night adjustments nice and easy. It is pretty quiet but not a whisper. I would recomend this unit but if you are not handy I would recomend having a installer help you out. I framed it in with some mdf in about a half hour and it works great. It is also easy to recharge is anyone is into that. Just something to keep in mind if you are a do it yourselfer....

I had read about the instal nightmares... but mine was done by a Sears rep, went flawlessly and took under an hour. It was a bit more pricey since I got the 5 year warrenty but now I feel it was money WELL spent. Sears even comes out once a year to service the unit before Summer.
The unit is whisper quiet, good looking, easy to read and the remote control is a blessing! You have several settings and fan speeds to pick from and it cools (the entire point of the thing) quickly and like units that are much bigger.
Do yourself a favor if you live in SoCal... do not go through another summer without a Unit like this to fall back on. It cools my living room, dining room and bedroom with only the help of a small fan on a table to direct the air. I am very, very happy with my choice....

Very quiet compared to most window A/C's if it's installed properly and this unit will cool your room quickly. I rated the quality at 4 stars due to the installation. I paid Sears do the installation and the day prior to the install, I was informed the cost would be an additional $60 on top of the $120 I was already charged. The installer then has the option to tell you the fees will be even more AND if they even want to do the install at all after they assess the situation. Thankfully, my install went smooth (just under 1.5 hours), but now, about a month later, the A/C unit rattles like crazy where the installer failed to put enough insulation between the unit and the window frame.
Anonymous says "great deal!" about Kenmore 11,500 BTU Slider/Casement Air Conditioner

We had been looking at air conditioners because we just had new windows installed and removed the old Kenmore a/c that came with the house! I got a great deal on this a/c unit because it was on closeout - someone had returned it. The salesperson assured me that it had been checked out and if there was anything wrong, we could return it. Well, my husband installed it quickly and we're now experiencing some of the hottest weather of the summer and my first floor is now even more comfortable than my basement!
We had planned to take it out during the winter, but it is such an attractive unit, we wouldn't mind leaving it in during the winter!
I'm hoping to find more of these units and I would recommend them to anyone. I've read the reviews so I am a little concerned about finding one that is broken, but I'm hoping that is more the exception than the rule....
