I had a ISE hot water dispener and the tank sprung a leak. I decided to replace the hot water dispenser with a water filtering system. Upon inspecting the water filtering system I found the dispenser to be made of plastic and the mounting using two toggle bolts to be very poorly engineered. I decided to use the existing hot water dispenser and adapt it to the water filters. After under sink installation I found the filtering part to be excellent and it works fine. The drinking water dispenser provided is trouble waiting to happen. Beware!...

Alfontso says "Kenmore 2 stage filter - Extra Repair Tip for the Faucet Valve" about Kenmore 2-Stage Drinking Water Filter

I was pleased to find the repair tip when my faucet started leaking. I checked out the Delta part at H*** D**** where they had a Danco branded replacement. The two pack valves had two types of spring. The one you need is the pyramid shape spring. That was $3.98. For $9.98 you get a 50 piece bulk pack. Figuring that this valve is going to split again on more that two occasions, I took the 50 pack.

The trick to get the rubber seal back into place was to smear it with a drop of canola or vegetable oil. It then slipped into place much more easily. After assembly the faucet started leaking again within hours. I pulled it apart and looked for another split in the rubber. It wasn't there, but there was a mark on the metal valve plate. I cleaned this off and put caloa oil on the metal plate to lubricate the seal.

The oil blew out immediately I turned on the faucet and it has not leaked since. And I still have 49 valve seats left... :-)
...

Rin1208 says "Kenmore 2-Stage Filter: attractive and great flow rate!" about Kenmore 2-Stage Drinking Water Filter

I have owned this for 3 months now. I had it professionally installed, and I'm glad I did because there was a slight leak from the filter cartridge to the connection hose. No big deal - the plumber changed out the connections and it's been dry ever since. I have not yet changed a filter, so I don't know how easy or difficult that is. But this is super attractive and works great. The only negative is that it didn't come in stainless steel, so it does not match my faucet or sink. The flow rate is INCREDIBLE - you can adjust how fast you want the water to come out - just like a sink faucet. You can turn the knob and the water stays on until you turn it off. Faucet arm swivels just like a kitchen faucet. Water tastes great. I use it to remove the chlorine flavor and extra sediment. My water is extremely hard, and my municipality draws it from an underground aquifer in a rural community. My water is treated, so I did not need the Reverse Osmosis option. Takes up very little room in my cabinet...
...

I have owned/installed two of these units, one in FL (where the water was gritty and stank of sulphur) and one in GA (where the water is over-chlorinated). In both cases, this filter produced excellent water.

My only complaint is that the plumbing can be a little difficult to install without leaks. Be VERY sure the tubing is cut square and that tubing is connecteded very tightly. Otherwise, slow leaks are likely. Be certain that the gaskets are installed correctly when replacing filters. I had one come loose and get pinched while replacing a filter, resulting in a high pressure leak under my sink, but this was my mistake.

I have never had trouble (in seven years) finding replacement filters. It helps to keep the part numbers, so I wrote mine with a sharpie on the filter.

I'd like to see more options (screw on) rather than the compression fittings to make the plumbing a little more reliable.
...

"Faucet started leaking. We called Sears, and found that (1) you CAN'T REPAIR it, and (2) just to get the faucet alone would COST $110!

A bust."

The above is from another reviewer that started my search to replace my leaking faucet instead of trying to repair it.

It can be repaired quite easily.

1) Pop off the screw cover on the end of the handle.

2) Unscrew the handle screw and remove the handle.

3) [this part is what stumped me] Unscrew the collar nut that "caps" the valve housing part. It will feel like it doesn't want to move, but it will.

4) Pop the valve out and replace the small spring and rubber gasket inside the housing. It's a Delta part #RP4993 available at ********** for about $4.

5) reverse the procedure to re-assemble and your good to go....

tmorris9 says "Kenmore 2-stage drinking water filter: Great system" about Kenmore 2-Stage Drinking Water Filter

I have been using this filter system for about 5 months now and I love it. This is not a filter to be used to get rid of bacteria and virus in ground water systems but rather for tap water that is already considered safe to drink.

Basically this gets rid of the nasty tastes in tap water that comes from chlorine and stuff built up in the city pipes. It has 2 filters, one for particulate matter (sand and small debris) and a charcoal filter to get rid of chemicals (the stuff that tastes nasty).

While the system is easy to install, if you are not familiar with some plumbing you are much better off having a pro install it. The water is under high pressure so if you get it wrong you could end up with a nice fountain under your sink while your away.

Now I will say it is able to filter water much faster than most systems but I would leave it slow and the slower it filters the better it's going to taste.

I drink between 1.5 and 2 gallons of water a day and since installing this system I stopped...
...

My only complaint (and I am not the only one, as you can see here http://www.thetruthasiseeit.com/2008/04/sears-responds.html ) is that information on the exact model numbers for the replacement filters is very, very, very hard to find.

I bought this model but with a white faucet. In comparison to water filters that I've seen at friends' homes, this one is the best value. The filters are very affordable.

The water tastes fresh and clean. There are no odors at all.

If you return from lengthy vacation, then the water has a slight carbon taste to it, but that clears up after letting the water run for a minute....

One of the previous posters was kind enough to point this out and I will concur. No 1 1/4" hole is needed. You need only drill one 3/8" hole (measure the bit to the tubing) for the water conduit tube pipe stuff and two smaller ones the size of the screws which secure it to the sink. I used the rubber grommet as a template and marked the sink with a sharpie. Also I recommend what may be the obvious, but plan the placement of the filter housings carefully taking into account having to remove them to replace the filters. Make sure you push the tubes ALL the way into the filter housings. There is a point where you think your in and then push a little more. If the tubes aren't all the way in the pressure spits them out and you are covered in water (make sure ALL the parts are in the box especially BOTH o-rings and little plastic one way seal things that the tubes pop into. Mine was missing one and I figured it was internal and the tube popped out under pressure. I swapped the unit out at Sears......

I bought this filter to replace an earlier, discontinued model that we'd had for about six years. But the cheap plastic faucet assembly finally broke. The filtering on that one was very good; close enough to bottled spring water so that you had to directly compare to tell the difference. (But our water here is pretty good to begin with; it's mainly removing the chlorine, which this does very well.) This new one is just as good in filtering, and the faucet assembly is greatly improved: it's sturdier, the spout swivels, and the replacement timer is handy for the forgetful. However, they did neglect to put a right-angle connector on the filter unit output on this new model, which makes it a bit harder to fit under the sink, since you have to allow another few inches for the rather stuff tubing. Still, overall a major improvement to a good filter design....

It takes away the truly annoying chlorine smell our local water supply has. The flow rate is very good; our previous filter trickled in comparison.
One important note regarding installation: you don't need to make a 1 1/4 inch diam hole in the sink top/counter (a difficult task with stainless steel). Three separate small holes (one for the flow tube, two for the connecting screws) suffice and are easily done with a drill....
