We purchased this refrigerator for a teacher's lounge in a small school, and it is perfect. We have just enough room for casseroles, frozen lunches, snacks, sodas, etc. It is slim in design and just tall enough to be the perfect height to place a microwave on top. Do not hesitate to purchase this refrigerator. It only costs a few dollars more than a "dorm" refrigerator but offers so much more space and versatility. It's a great buy! We are all very satisifed with this purchase. This refrigerator is regularly used by four-six people.
...

Overall I am happy with this refrigerator. It will not freeze items in the freezer compartment if the frige is set to the lowest setting. But at the #2 setting it will freeze water in the freezer. It is not as quiet as I had hoped, so it might not be a good choice if you are sleeping in the same room and a sensitive sleeper. But otherwise no problems.
...

I recently bought this fridge to replace an old 3.4 cub ft fridge. The manual said to put the thermostat on "3" and wait 24 hrs before it is cool enough to put food/beverages in. I did as directed and checked it 4 hours later and it was already 35 degrees. Seems to be very energy efficient, I rarely hear the motor kick on. Well designed door shelves and adjustable shelves.
...

I purchased this refrigerator for a boat house at the lake. It's the perfect size (bigger than the dorm refrigerators but not too big). It holds a lot of adult beverages and pop. It replaced an old, old energy hog and I think it will pay for itself pretty quickly. I bought it based on the compact size, the positive reviews, the price and the energy consumption estimates. I haven't used the freezer and we don't open and close the main door a lot, so I don't think the need to defrost often is going to be an issue here. I haven't seen an ice build up yet. I'm happy with my purchase so far. My opinion... for what it's worth....

There are very few refrigerators in this size range. This one comes out on top in terms of price and low energy usage. I've had mine for two years without requiring service.

I wish Kenmore made a frost free version of this, though. Defrosting is a hassle.

The freezer box is tiny, only 1.08 cubic feet when completely defrosted. It doesn't keep ice cream cold enough to be hard, but it does keep it cold enough not to go bad. The reason for this is the freezer box door does not make a tight fit to the freezer box when closed, so cold leaks out of the freezer box into the refrigerator compartment. If you crank up the the dial setting high enough to make the freezer colder, so much cold leaks out into the refrigerator compartment that it starts forming ice in beverages there. So I keep the dial a little below 3 to prevent freezing in the refrigerator compartment and accept that the freezer will just barely freeze stuff as a result.

Even though I am not entirely happy with this model, I would......

Fits perfectly in my small kitchen; light enough to set atop a single drawer unit which contains my flat bakeware items, but still short enough to easily reach my 2 wicker baskets of dry goods.

And so quiet...can be in the same room and still not hear it running. My electric bill dropped significantly the month after installation.

The door closes snugly; almost like a vacuum seal when I open it. Because of the tight seal, I can keep the temp setting at mid-range; found the higher setting too cold.

Only drawback is the freezer size which is the reason for 4 stars, but size is not a big issue as I have a small chest freezer. And because of its small size, it's easy to defrost.

Deceptively roomy inside; I have yet to fill it completely even after big food shopping trips.

Although not a good choice as the primary frid for families, I highly recommended it for singles and couples w/o kids, or as a 2nd frid elsewhere in the home or in a vacation home....

Our 7 year old 21cu. ft. fridge broke down and was discarded. Only one of us is employed at the moment so we decided to go small and inexpensive. Great choice. This "little" unit surprised both my wife and myself at how spacious and solidly built it is. Full length door means lots of space for bottles and small items. Easy to transport. I picked up this unit at a local Sears hardware and put it in my hatch back Daewoo Lanos. No delivery charges! We now know that we really do not need a big power hungry fridge. At 9.5cu.ft. and about 1.5 amps. we are very happy. Think about it, you too may realize living small is better....

We've only had this fridge for a few months, but so far so good. We are using it in a makeshift kitchen in the house while our real kitchen is being renovated. For the size, it is very spacious inside. It keeps the food very cold on just the middle setting. While it is advertised as a fridge (no freezer) it does have an "icebox" with a door on the top. The "icebox" does keep some things frozen but not cold enough to keep ice cream frozen solid, though cold enough so that it doesn't turn to liquid. It runs very quietly and has a surprising amount of space including 4 rows of door space, 4 shelves (including the top of the crisper - the three shelves are adjustable). So far we are very pleased with it....

VTGal says "Efficient apartment fridge; defrost a lot, noisy" about Kenmore 9.5 cu. ft. Refrigerator

I've had this refrigerator for almost 3 years. I wanted an apartment-size refrigerator that was energy-efficient, without paying premium price. This size is rare in these United States, which is a shame because it is more than large enough for 2 people. We live in town, and buy fresh veggies weekly at the local farmers' market; we don't try to stock up for 3 months at a time at Sams Club. (By European standards this is a giant refrigerator, but I digress.) After having it almost 3 years, it has been basically trouble-free (knock on wood).

Although this refrigerator does not meet Energy Star, consider that Energy Star has very few compact refrigerators; if you are using this to replace a full-size one, you will probably still use less electricity.

The freezer needs to be defrosted pretty regularly (in 3 weeks?) especially in the humid summertime. I knew this was a limitation when I bought it - it seemed worth the trade off for an efficient refrigerator. Ice cream is VERY soft in the freezer.......

It is everything said about it and more. We are using it in a 5th wheel recreational vehicle. It takes less space and has 1.5 times more space inside than the previous refrigerator. We are accustomed to silent absorbtion refrigerators and expected it to make noise but it seems to be silent. It's very handy to use, the controls are easy to see and it really cools. We have enjoyed it....

We ordered this from sears.com and picked up from store. It is a nice refrigerator, very quiet and not running all the time like the older one we toss out.

They said that every 10 years you should replace your refrigirator and air conditioning units. I am convinced after buying this one.
We picked it up from store and not too heavy and can be easily carried by a minivan.

The only complaint I have is that we disconvered the door is little dented during unpacking it in our office. Not worth the trouble to go back to store, but it is an issue....

This is the best fridge you can get when space is at a minimum. I worked in regrigeration for over 20 years - the big benefit of this fridge besides space-saving is low energy consumption. As for defrosting, you just have to get used to doing it now and then - good excuse to clean it anyway. Never use a sharp object. Defrosting will depend on how humid it is where you live and how often you open it - but, again, defrosting isn't a big deal....

Was a choice between this and an Avanti. Even though I couldn't find any reviews on the Avanti online, and found these good reviews about this unit, I initially chose..... the wrong one. I purchased the Avanti because it was $100 less and had glass shelves instead of wire. I ended up lugging two home and then back to the dealer because it was a piece of smelly "#2" (one would not cool below about 48 degrees and the other about 42 degrees). You get what you pay for! After all that hassle I opted to try out this unit from Sears. Got it home, plugged it in and it cooled to a chilly 32 degrees being set around the middle of the dial. It's been purring along now for a few of weeks and keeps the beverages nice and chilly. This was purchased as a garage freezer for beverages, so I haven't used the freezer box yet and haven't had it plugged in long enough to find out if I'm going to have the same defrost issues that other people have mentioned. If the worst thing this fridge does is need defrosting......
