I have had my serger for a few years. I love the way it is so easy to use . However the only problem I have had it changing the neddles. I find that the screw in which you loosen the neddles is hard to get to. I haven't been able to use if for I can't change the needle. I hope to find an off set screw driver that will help me to change the neddle. I found that it sewed through thick fabric with ease and help me make a ball gown with puffy sleeves.
...

Mimi94 says "Kenmore Serger 16677 - a real workhorse for the serious sewer" about Kenmore Serger Sewing Machine

I have several sergers and the Kenmore 16677 is my go to machine for clean and consistent stitching! Threading any serger the first time is challenging but the DVD which accompanies the serger shows how to thread it- as with all sergers that I have used changing threads on the two loopers should be done by tying the new thread onto the one already threaded thru and running it through the machine- the easiest way to change colors- you do have to thread the two needles but those are easy to do.

This machine is not a fancy multi foot wonder but truthfully I really just want it to work on stretch fabrics with a minimum of fuss. The less complicated the better for those who do lots of serging or production sewing. This Kenmore for the price is a great machine ...simple and efficient and produces a great stitch.

I solved the movement of the machine on my table by placing it on a piece of matting that is used to keep a rug from slipping (I found some placemats on sale that...
...

marcofleseri says "small, noisy, overpriced for level of quality" about Kenmore Serger Sewing Machine

This machine is noisy and not as easy to thread as some other models on the market (the lower looper has no threader mechanism: it must all be done with tweezers through two open panels), but it is compact and does the job adequately.

It doesn't feel like a solid, well-built machine when stitching: much like driving an old car that needs work, vs. a newer luxury model. I wouldn't try heavy duty usage or very thick fabrics.

This machine is not worth more than $200; if you can get it on sale or at a discount, great -- but otherwise, you can get better machines with more accessories and easier threading for the same price, like the Brother 1034D.
...

I have owned a Sears Kenmore Serger Sewing Machine for about nine years now. I feel it is a must to have for sewing. The problems I have with this serger are threading the threads. They can get complated at times. I leave my threads threaded at all times. If I break a thread I don't have to go thru the process of trying to get it rethreaded and if I need to change colors of the thread I just follow the old color that I already had threaded. It is a wonderful machine and will give me a professional look when I am finished sewing. I use the serger on a lot of different projects. I have made slacks, dresses, skirts, pillows, drapes and many other projects. My mother-in-law first introduced this machine to me. She owns a shop where she makes vestments for the churches and all of her vestments look like they have come from a high end clothing store somewhere in New York City. Once I tried her machine I was totally hooked and had to have my own. Every project that I have done I will get...
...

I bought this machine about 2 years ago. I have sewing experience(SAHM sewing for 2 girls and 1 boy), and have used a couple of different kinds of sergers (babylock and a bernina). I was looking for a good, inexpensive serger that would work for me for many years to come, and for many different projects. This machine has been great. I have used it on a flower girl dress, easter dresses, and to sew on jeans. I think I have broken one needle, and that was because I serged over a pin. It threads very easily, I ususally use 3 threads, but has the capability for a 4 thread 2 needle set up.

Overall this is a great machine for a beginner to intermediate level sewer. It has done more than I thought I might need. The one thing I would change would be to have a thread/cut off fabric catcher. As I learned when I was shopping for a serger, they don't usually include such things on machines anymore. I feel as if my money was well spent, and this has and will continue to be a great machine.
...

First off, I'd like to say that I consider myself a very patient person. I have never written a review in my life, but this machine has been so frustrating that I'm actually taking the time to write this:

I recently started a clothing and costume design business and got this serger in December. I use it daily (or try to) and it has given me a ton of grief and aggrivation. The needles are constantly breaking, along with the thread. Within a few weeks of having it, I had to take it to a Sears repair shop. They said an arm was bent on it and they had to order a part. During that time, I used a few friend's sergers who I shared an office with. I had no trouble with their's at all.....never broke a needle and rarley broke a thread. I finally got my machine back after over a month. Within the first 10 seconds of using it, a needle broke.

Almost every day this machine has left me feeling very angry and frustrated. If you are looking for a serger, I would reccommend...
...

Several weeks ago I purchased the Kenmore Serger Sewing Machine and was very disappointed and after 1 week I returned it. I tried for 1 week to make this machine be something that I could use for years. I am not new to operating a serger machine, and found this machine to be very cumbersome and very difficult to thread. I watched the accompanying DVD several times and still I was unable to make this machine serge for more than 4" before the thread would break and then I had to rethread all over again. My first sewing machine in the 1960s was a Kenmore and I found it to be very easy to operate which made me feel comfortable about purchasing the Kenmore serger, but I was so wrong. After many attempts, I had no choice but to return the machine to Sears. I was very disappointed in the operation of this machine, but this in no way will keep my from purchasing Kenmore products in the future.
...

I recently purchased the Kenmore serger. Finally, one I can use. This is my 3rd serger in the past 2 years. I thought it was just me. They took forever to thread, then finally when threaded, after a couple of stitches, the threads would break. Well, I have the same thread, the same knowledge, but now with this serger, NO PROBLEMS! I threaded it right on the first try with no problem. Switched from blade up to blade down with no problems. Did gathers, rolled edges, and overlock without having to re thread one time. I made a rice bag, eye glass cases, and 2 pillow cases in the past 2 hrs. I love this machine. I can't wait to create more things for my family! Well built. Easy to understand. Comes with a dvd but I didn't even watch it yet. You do have to buy all your special feet seperately. But the price is GREAT for this little mighty machine! I LOVE IT and would recomend it to any one. Especially someone who has never had one and would like to upgrade their sewing skills without getting...
...

I've had my Kenmore 3/4 serger for going on 20 years now. Love it.

10 years ago I decided to go high-end; bought a 5-thread Husky. Used it for 6 months with enormous frustration and disappointment. Got tired of messing with it one day and swung back to my Kenmore.

I was stunned. The stitch was beautiful; the set-up time limited to the thread color change. The Husky was abandoned. Five years ago I tried again. Bernina 5-thread with coverstitch this time. Another bummer. Anything to do with the chainstich/coverstitch looper takes an entire evening to set up--I've yet to get anything near an acceptable coverstitch.

The Kenmore is my primary serger. It gives a perfect stitch every time, with any adjustment requiring less than a minute. The lower looper is annoying to thread on the rare occasion you need to do it, but fast nonetheless, so who cares.

I came to this site today to see if Kenmore has expanded their serger line. They haven't, too bad. Still, I wouldn't recommend any serger but......

I am starting a small clothing business and needed a serger, but don't have much money in my budget. I have always loved Kenmore products for their quality, so I looked on the website and found this serger, saw the great reviews, and even better price and knew this was the one.
Although it came pre-threaded, I wanted to learn to thread it myself. I was a little intimidated and thought I'd never get it threaded right, but I watched and followed the dvd that came with the serger and it was really very easy.
This machine is a dream; I run it for hours and it never hesitates, snags, or tangles - it is a little powerhouse!
Thank you Sears Kenmore!...

I have had this serger over a year now, and have had no problems at all with it. I don't use it everyday, but when I do use it, its continues for hours. Last Christmas I used it to sew up hundreds of corn bags. Using the serger saved hours of work. The family that was helping in the assembly line keep thanking my husband for my Christmas present of last year because of the time it was saving. During this project I had to thread my machine for the first time. (I had tied my thread to the thread samples that where already threaded and just pulled it through when I first got the machine.) It did take a little time, but it was because I threaded a thread backwards, once I discovered this, its been easy. I love this machine and highly recommend it. I had never owned one before but had used them. I am so glad I went with this one and not a more expensive model. Maybe I can get a new sewing machine with the money that was saved. I do wish the material guide came with the machine. I want to get......

But once you get this machine threaded...it just sews like a dream. I'm inlove with this serger. It is a workhorse . I'm thrilled that I bought it....

I have only had this machine for a week or so but I really like it. my grandma has a husqvarna viking 910 computerized serger. I thought it was awsome but after using this kenmore I'm thinking why in the world would you spend $1200.00 on a serger when you never use it. I think I've used hers 4 times which is 3 times more than her.lol. any way this machine is very easy to thread after glancing at the manual. and you can sew almost anything on it if you adjust the tension for different fabric types. I am very excited to watch the video and see what sort of cool new things I can make with all the different attachments.(need to be purchased) the only reason I rated this product at a 4 is because although I love the speed of this baby I can't use it at it's full potential because it almost hops right off my table.( my grandma's viking is so slow on the fast setting I just want to pull my project right out the back side.) so as soon as I can fix my minor vibration problem my rating will go from......

I bought this serger a couple weeks ago. I have never used one before. The DVD that came with the serger is great. I set my serger near my DVD player and followed step by step the threading technique and only made one goof which I quickly discovered. The DVD explains the different techniques and is very informative. I think this is a great buy. While it is nice to have tweezers it would have been most helpful to have had a looper threader included in the supplies. You need something to reach underneath and behind where you thread the lower looper. I 'jerry rigged' a hook with some jewelry wire I had to retrieve the thread and then went and bought a long needle threader. I would suggest buying a threader at the same time as purchasing the machine. I have two Kenmore sewing machines which have served me well. One is 30 years old and I'm still sewing on it. I don't think you can go wrong with a Kenmore....

I do a lot of home decor sewing and really needed to be able to sew overlock seams faster than my sewing machine. This machine does the job quite to my satisfaction. I've tried fairly light-weight fabrics, and even heavy upholstery materials with just the results I needed, strong, fast stitching, and the fabric trimming is great. The threading isn't as bad as I would have thought it to be, and when using regular threads it's easy to just tie on to the old thread for the lower looper and pull through the new thread to avoid some of the difficulty there (still double-check it be sure it's correct). The suction cup feet make it stable, even when running it fast. I'm sure a fancier machine could offer more, but I can't beat this serger for my needs!...
