I've had this filter installed for over a year now.
When I installed mine I added valves on the inlet and outlet, with a drain valve. I didn't want to mess with the built-in bypass valve.
.
To change the filter I just shut off both valves and open the drain to a bucket. Not much water comes out and the filter housing is depressurized, which makes it easy to unscrew.
.
No leaks and no problems....

I bought this unit about a year ago and I am pleased with it.

However, I have difficulty getting the sump to unscrew from the head assembly. I have just purchased the "Sump Removal Wrench" and I hope I have an easier time in replacing the cartridge....

This is a relatively inexpensive way to filter your household water. I purchased it due to excessive sediment in my house water. The filter helps extend the life of my boiler and hot water heater too. (no more yellow hot water over time)

Only problem is that at 5 Microns, the filter clogs pretty quickly, reducing water pressure significantly. I had to add more filters to make up the pressure. I recommend a 25 Micron filter in one unit (like a pre-filter), connected in series to two filters with 5 Micron filters. The 5 Micron units should be connected in parallel to each other. This will give you superior, layered filtration with no loss of pressure. Filters will not need to be changed as often either. All for under $150...

After two years the top mounted shutoff stem began leaking. This item is reallly usable and configured nicely. But there is a need for a rebuilding kit to solve the leak at the top stem problem. If this is provided I'd purchase five more of these. the filtering feature does work very well....
