I have put many chains on before and what you need to do with these is add additional bungee cords or rope to secure the outer bead chain. I made a spiderweb pattern over the face of the rim, threading it through the outer bead chain links, with twine which holds up fine. Otherwise you will not like these chains.... I had little to no traction even with light snow. I thought I would have to invest in chains and wheel weights. After reading many reveiws I decided to try the chains first and buy the weights if still had tire spinning. The chains work so well I am not going to purchase the weights. Plowing the snow will make piles, so do plenty of space managment so you have room to push the snow later in the season.... The instructions were well written and easy to follow. When installing, make sure to get the chains as tight as possible, so they don't slip on the tire. I was able to do this by letting the air out of the tires while putting them on and then airing back up the tires. This made installation MUCH easier. I haven't gotten stuck since I put the chains on!... Traction would be extremely difficult without them, so I do recommend them as a necessary purchase. I've taken a few stars off for a couple of reasons. The installation instructions state that Peerless is "an ISO 9001 Certified Company." Now maybe I'm mistaken, but I always believed that ISO 9001 had to do with quality. The instructions state to "Lay chain straight with the open sides of the cross chain hooks facing up." On one of my chains, the fold back hook was installed at the factory 180 degrees reverse, and so you cannot have both it and the fingertip hook facing up simulataneously. This does not prevent the chain from working, but it is a quality issue that deserves note. Also with that particular chain installed, there is one extra link on fold back hook side from the amount needed on the fingertip hook side to make everything snug. The other chain is fine. I bought the snow plow blade option. I am not mechanically challenged. I have been in the auto business for years and have put chains on tow trucks and pick up trucks with plows on them in the past. These chains are pretty flimsy. They fall off easy. This is the first winter I had to use my tractor for plowing snow. I have a corner lot with lots of public sidewalk and a long driveway. The chain on the right wheel broke the links several times. I had to weld the links back together three time now. This is so agravating when you are in the middle of plowing and you have to stop to put the chain back on or repair. I would not recommend these to no one....
