The window attachment is so checp that you have to use lots of masking tape to secure it and the screws that come with it will not hold the exhaust in place

when the unit gets to be one year old its very loud

I bought this unit at a great sale price so was willing to accept some minor imperfections. It is loud but it cools a room reasonably quickly. My place is fairly well-insulated so I can turn it off after the room is cool and lasts for a while. It's easy to move and does the job for the price I paid. I would not have paid full price for this unit.
...

This unit i don't even have words for it. We plugged it in and immediately even on LOW it was LOUD REALLY LOUD... not your normal AC loud, after a few seconds more this loud annoying metal banging noise came on, we tried everything to stop it, thinking maybe it was on unlevel ground or what have you.

self evaporating???? HAHAAAAA after 15 minutes (in a room of 85 degrees F) i went to move the unit and you could hear the bucket swishing around a large amount of water which means... i'm going to have to empty this thing fairly often. ((yes it was on COOL not dry)

LAST THING: the room's temperature won't go below 79 degrees. door is closed and there is only 1 window...the window that the exhaust hose is going out of.

OK so we have a lot of moisture in our room, if you feel you have a similar room...save your money and your time. Who wants to wake up in the middle of the night to empty a bucket? forget that!

We moved to a hot apartment in May 2010 and soon purchased a Royal sovereign Portable AirConditioner from Sears item #04274902000, Mfr. model #ARP1000ES. The air conditioner was immediately satisfying (more so than ice cream!), operating quickly, quietly and looking quite nice in our main living area. My husband snores less, I sleep better and the cost to run the unit is affordable. Go Sears !!
...

Not only was I well pleased with the product but the sales guiy was great too. He told me where they were then said let me know if you need help. He didn't bug the **** out of me. When I did call him over he was knowledgeable, courteous, very professional and knew what he was talking about. He told me of less costly options but was careful to point out for the $50 difference he'd go with this one. I bought it. I was in and out of the store with it in less than 20 minutes.

When I got it home it was really easy to install and ready to go in less than an hour. They recommend waiting 2hours with it standing upright before you first use it. One hour after I started it up the room was nice and cool and my wife was happy. Happy wife, happy life.........Thanks Sears
...

We were coerced into this particular piece of equipment three days before all "hell broke loose" as far as heat wave in our area . This happened while looking at units remaining in town all over, and the selection at your place was impressive! The rep from Sears told us about this one, and how it may be able to exhaust up the chimney in our ground floor apt. It just so happened that it was also on sale at a very good price!

It was a nice security thing for us and yes, the exhaust was easily forced up the chimney by using a couple of quick ties...The machine worked like an ice box at a ball park for us!

What a marvel!

Thanks Sears!
...

We live (top floor - hot) in an apartment which forbids individual air conditioners. When the central air system quit - on the hottest, most humid Friday night of the year with all repair facilities closed for the weekend - we bought this for our bedroom, since the nearly-invisible exhaust should pass external inspection.

The unit has plusses and minuses. It is relatively quiet - quieter than most window units. It was easy to install - but I had to deal with the condensate - by setting it on a very sturdy storage bin from ********** - with holes in the lid to let the water drain in - and a large hole for a measuring stick to see when it would need to be emptied. A bit Rubegoldberg-ish, but it works.

The one downside is that in order to get air across the condensor so that it can be sent out through the exhaust - it has to draw apartment air (hot and humid) into the bedroom for its air supply. So, while it is putting cool, dry air into the room - it is also pulling hot humid air into the...
...

Bought this right before the first big heatwave of summer '09 in Portland, OR (thank you 10 day trend for the warning!). The unit is very heavy (about 70 lbs) and I had to leave it in my car when I got home and have my husband help me get it in the house later. It has wheels on it so once you get it out of the box and upright it is 'portable', but it wouldn't be possible for me to take this up and down stairs by myself, my husband could manage it though.

The plastic bit you put in the window to vent the unit is a bit cheesy, and because one part slides inside the other part to make it adjustable, there is a gap between the window sash and the plastic on the side that is slightly shorter. I had to futz around with weather stripping and masking tape to get it somewhat air tight.

The unit cools down our bedroom (which is not large) nicely. It is pretty loud, but mostly it's white noise. A couple times I've been woken up by the compressor coming on, but I am a light sleeper.

I ACTUALLY USE IT IN MY LIVING ROOM IN CONJUNCTION WITH MY CENTRAL A/C DURING THE MIDST OF SUMMER IN SO CAL. I'VE HAD IT ABOUT A YEAR AND IT CONTINUALLY WORKS GREAT. I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND IT IS BASICALLY HOT ALL YEAR ROUND. THE AIR STAYS COOL. ONLY ISSUE IS THAT MY ELECTRIC BILL GOES UP AS I DON'T THINK IT'S ENERGY EFFICIENT. OTHERWISE, IT'S GREAT. TIMER IS GREAT. I CAN FALL ASLEEP TO IT FOR AN HOUR....

The Royal Sovereign AC unit that I bought was a piece of junk. It broke down after only 6 months of actual use. Because I did not use it during the Winter, when it broke down the following Spring, the manufacturer would not honor the 1 year warranty.

I just moved in this old 4 bedroom house in DC with friends. 2 Girls and 2 guys... Win Win!

It was spring time, the night were always nice and cool! However now that summer is here, the wonderful downstairs oasis was becoming a nasty, muggy, hot nightmare!

I was regretting the room choice!!!

I was thinking of sleeping in the living room every night... Then the most amazing discovery happened...

On one of my random rummaging in the small rooms in the basement (many things were left in these small rooms, paint, brooms, mops, clothes, shelves and much more) I found a quietly sitting Royal Sovereign ARP-1000ES Dehumidifier and air conditioner!!! At first I had no idea what it was.. I kind of looked like R2-D2... I plugged it in..

It is the best product that I have ever found!
The unit itself works well for cooling. The flimsy window bracket is a piece of junk. It is plastic and it is to be put together with little sheet metal screws. I had to tape it together last summer and be very careful to not move the unit or the screws would strip out of the plastic. It is hard to believe that a company would build a fine product like this and then fall down on the job so badly with a plastic window insert. I just taped it into my window today to see if I can get through the summer with it again. You cannot use the unit "without" the window ventilator....

I wish I had purchased this portable ac unit about 2 summers ago. Used to turn ac down at bedtime to get more cold air up to our bedroom - basically cooling down the whole house just for 1 room @ night - wasting energy. This sucker cools our master bdrm down very quickly and VERY COLD as well - LOVE IT. Self evap is awesome - never need to worry about draining out water. Window exhaust attachment could have been designed better w/a tighter fit but you'll figure out how to rig it to fit in your window without letting bugs in. Use painters tape - less destructive than duct tape. Highly recommend this unit. White color looks nice in bedroom and sound of motor lulls you to sleep! Never worry again about damaging your windows with a window unit....
