I bought the bike early October 2009 for 2 reasons.

Hurt my knees from running and tai'chi-ing

Did extensive research and decided on the SR23 based on price (<500) and ratings.

Bottomline: A very practical and usable bike without tons bells and whistles. Very much enjoys it. Put a small table besides it (see notes below)

Things I like

Noise: Very quiet. You can say it is absolutely quiet compared to my treadmill, which is a pretty good one. The back can squeak if you don't tighten it up. But the noise is understandable and doesn't bother me much.

Display: Backlit display is large, clear and easily readable.

Features: I only use the HRC mode, so can't tell how well the other programs are. The HRC mode allows 3 levels (60-70, 70-80, 80-90 % of MHR). One thing I like very much of the bike is the resistence level, adjustable easily and doesn't make any noise. The heart rate monitor works. Other bikes may boast more programs. But I figure that the number of programs is the least factor to...

...

Wow, This is the best for your money buy. I am very happy with my SR23 . Ive had it since the 13th of june and have rode it 6 days a week since. I took note of some reveiws that said they had a noise in the seat, so when we put it together we payed close attention to the assemble of the seat. We made sure everything was tight and right. I love the different programs even thou I choose to do my own routine. I tested many bikes before we purchased this one, so I can truly say, id recommend it to anyone. My fiance works out on his Bowflex and after, he rides the SR35 for strenght training and he loves it as well....

Bought the bike, due to reading the ratings. Seems that most liked the bike. I almost bought a Nordic Trac but after reading the reviews on the model I wanted, I chose not. I only started today and did two workouts! I'm 67 and have lower back problems, so had to give up using a treadmill, and needless to say sitting all the time was bad for me. I exrcised 45 minues eary this afternoon, and 35 minutes tonight. Love the machine. Can watch tv, etc, and it's so quiet. No problems so far except when unpacking the seat bracket was broke, so will call tomorrow to get a replacement. Actually, it's one of the four plastic inserts that goes into the seat bracket frame. All and all the only problem hubby had in putting the machine together was he got the wires done wrong. He thought it didn't make any difference which end went where, but I fixed it. He doesn't like to do anything related to computer parts. I know I am going to thoroughly enjoy this bike....

I was going to have a total knee replacement and wanted something to assist with the recovery. It has now been 12 weeks since I had surgery. The doctor released me to return to work after 6 weeks. Normally it takes 12 weeks. It took about an hour to put together and would be helpful to have someone around to assist. I have found after a month go back and tightend all the nuts as they work loose. I use the bike every day and sometimes twice a day....

My old bike broke after many years. And I have bad knees related to military service. I worked as a Rehab Nurse for 11 years and we had these bikes in the patients gym. Most had knee or hip replacements. So I thought I would give this style a try. Love it! Easy to put together, easy to use, comfortable and very quiet. I would recommend this bike to anyone. I ordered it online, and it was already in stock at my local store. Pick-up took 5 minutes. Now my workout is back on track....

I almost didn't buy this bike because I couldn't find any reviews on it, and they didn't have this model in my local store. I decided to take a chance anyway, and I'm glad I did. It feels a lot sturdier than the bikes I tried in stores. It was easy to assemble and didn't take but about an hour. The seat is a lot easier to adjust than other bikes I tried in stores too. It's also whisper quiet. I would warn anyone who buys it to be aware that it comes in a very large box though. The bike itself does have a little bit bigger footprint than some of the other bikes I looked at, but that is a trade off worth making considering the quality of it....

I bought this bike and had it delivered from Sears in a huge box which was undamaged to my upper level condo where I assembled it without difficulty. Actually it was fun putting it together myself. I had no missing pieces at all. The nuts and bolts were easily located and identified. The instructions were clear. Once it was assembled and placed on the equipment mat to protect the carpet, I tried it out and it worked flawlessly! It is virtually noiseless and very steady when in use. I had no squeaks from the seat at all. It provides an excellent aerobic workout. I love the way the resistance smoothly changes when adjusted or in response to the set program. The levels of resistance, the type and quantity of programs available on the console are great. I bought it when it was discounted $100, for $499. I made an excellent choice when buying this. Im also glad I bought it from Sears where I could try it out in the store....

I purchased this machine after reconstructive knee surgery because my doctor recommended a recumbent bike. It has worked perfectly and thanks in part to this machine I don't have to go to rehab! It is very solid while riding with no strange noises. I ride three times a week for 30 minute sessions and I am very pleased. The assembly went well and was completed in 75 minutes with no missing parts since everything was vacuum sealed in little cardboard trays. I would tell anyone looking for a simlar machine to buy this model....

My husband and I decided on this recumbent schwinn because of all the great reviews we read. It is just as described. Very good instructions and easy to put together. Took about 11/2 hours. All parts were easy to find. Up and running in no time. The machine is so quiet, and smooth. and the seat is very easy to adjust. my husband is 6'3 and I am 5'1. The readout is easy to see because of the backlight. Has many features those expensive machines have. Got it for $100.00 off. What a deal! You won't go wrong with this one....

My husband and I have been looking for a solid piece of exercise equipment for the past few months. He wanted an elliptical machine and I wanted a bike. After visiting Sears multiple times, we decided to purchase the SR23 because of the size, cost and positive reviews. We bought it on sale ($499) and brought it home in a HUGE box. It took my husband 1.5 hours to assemble. The bike was PERFECTLY quiet until the seat started sqeaking. My husband is going to get out the WD-40 and see if that helps. We still love the bike, however, and would recommend it to anyone! It DOES come with a cord to plug the bike in, so that is one less item to buy.
Overall, this bike is worth every penny we paid!...

We bought this bike about a month ago and have loved it. We were looking for exercise equipment that would be durable for my husband who is almost 300 lbs. and easy on his knees. It seems to be great for both. I also like the many different workouts and levels. It is keeping us interested which is essential to helping us establish a workout schedule. I have never had a machine that is so quiet! There is a slight squeak in the seat as it has said in other reviews, but it is barely noticeable. I am so excited to have this bike and would highly recommend it....

We decided to buy a bike for more than one reason. The main reason for me is that I need knee replacement in both knees. I am not ready mentally for that yet so thought this bike may help since the Dr. said it would. We have a treadmill but that causes too much pain and the Dr. said not to use it. We also have a glider(do not use that either)I asked my husband to decide on one that he thought was good. He looked at several and we both read the reviews on the SR23. He thought this one would be good and since after reading the reviews so many said they use it for arthritis, I agreed with it. Sear's has it on sale for $499(which is $100 off) and the computer said they were in stock. I called and the sales person said that they accidentally put a second one together 2 days ago as a result had none in stock. If we wanted that it didn't have a scratch on it and would give us $15 off the price. We went yesterday and tried it out, seemed great and it is. I did see a slight scratch on the computer......

Bought this bike about a month ago. Was everything that I'd read in prior reviews. I had been looking for a used recumbent bike but after reading reviews on different ones I decided not to go that route. This bike is very quiet, almost no sound at all, the different programs that you can choose make it interesting. It took about an hour to assemble with the tools that were supplied. We ordered it and received it at our local Sears store one week later....

After weeks of recumbent bike research I chose the Schwinn SR23 over comparable models based on the many available reviews and personal testing. Personally picked it up at the local Sears to avoid any shipping damage issues. Box was in good shape with no damage upon unpacking. Assembly was easy but will take about 1.5 hours.

Upon initial use I noticed the annoying squeak present in the seat attachment as mentioned in other reviews. Being mechanicaly efficient I disassembled the entire seat attachment, removed all associated screws and washers and sprayed them with WD40. Further light WD40 spraying was completed on any surface relating to the seat attachemnt that had metal to metal contact including the chrome seat adjustment rail (this made a much smoother seat gliding action) and the screw metal portion on the 2 adjustment knobs (1 on the seat back and 1 on the seat bottom). After completed WD40 lubrication and reassembling the seat attachment my SR23 is ENTIRELY SQUEEK FREE.

Although......

After reading extensive reviews and shopping expeditions where I tried different bikes, I decided to purchase this bike. This bike seems very solid for the money. It is very quiet ....I have not heard squeaking so far. The computer workouts are great...There are quite a few pre-programmed workouts to choose from - which is nice. The computer user interface is fairly good...although, the user manual could have been written a little better...but not really a big deal. Instructions for assembly were very easy to understand. It took a couple of hours to assemble. I would definitely recommend this bike....

My wife and I decided to purchase this bike after extensive reviews. We're both in pretty good shape, but decided we needed to be heart healthy in addition to the toning this bike would bring with consistent use. It's not as cheap as some, but much less expensive than many others. The quality is gym-grade...very solid. Great materials...nothing cheap about it. We set up in our living room in view of the tv. It is whisper quiet and we can watch tv without turning the volume up to abnormal levels....no squeaking so far from any of the components. The workouts are great and you will feel it in your legs and buns almost immediately. Resistance is automatic via the computer. There are many programs to chose from and many variables to each program. The interface is user-friendly. Instructions for assembly were easy to understand. It took about 2 hours to assemble (with 2 kids competing for my attention). Not a single complaint here....

I've had six surgeries on my left foot and have gone three years with no activity. I felt I needed an exercise bike to get the exercise that I need without putting a lot of pressure on my foot.

This bike is terrific, It was easy to put together, it took me about 90 minutes. It was a little too heavy for me to lift out of the box, and carry it anywhere, but I did manage to get it out and then attach the wheels so I could easily wheel it to the room I was going put it together and use it in.

The bike is very quiet, very sturdy, and I am able to watch tv as I work out. The programs are wonderful and you can keep track of your distance, time, and heart rate as well as other things. You can adjust your tension as you are working out which is a great plus.

I highly recommend this bike. It is worth the money....
